It's been a long time since we had a fresh dose of Kourin being a pompous dork. How nostalgic!
when is alice coming back from the war
My dastardly scheme succeeded!
Yes
Kourin is a moron
Not the most coherent of chapters; Harukawa isn't good at indicating the passage of time
And, of course, Kosuzu is actively interested in becoming a youkai
????
They both say it in English, so that's how I defaulted. Not necessarily the only way to do it, but they do both use the same kind-of-odd word.
I figured she was making a direct reference to the vulgar spirits. Yeah, it sounds funny, but that makes it a joke, imo. Also, my dictionary didn't list any other synonyms for that word. Not that that means they don't exist.

"Base"? Or maybe "low", or I guess "earthy"? Given the context you could probably work with "common", but that's adding a little more connotation. It seems like most words for this concept are pretty old-fashioned and have had their meaning drift. I kinda like "base".
That said, "vulgar" sounds better in the context of vulgar spirits than it does with Kosuzu's vulgar question; her line at the end sounds funny, but it's also clearly referencing the earlier stuff. It's at least an issue of style more than comprehensibility.
The links are best preserved here: [1] Just scroll down, it's pretty much all I post about.
Ahhh, I missed Rinnosuke's amazing logic derails. He's not a moron. He just lives with one foot grounded in the world of human reality and the other in the crazy strange existence of youkai, where belief is power.
Also I just realized the art and context makes it seem like Kosuzu's been sitting in the Seiza position for hours, which is fairly impressive. Marisa of course sits cross-legged because she's crude and unrefined. Such a Rascal.
I wonder what Kosuzu intended to ask. Probably something relating to her interest in youkai. Marisa's already shown herself to be willing to be complicit in shadier stuff (See also: 'Evil Dragon'.) So I think Kosuzu was counting on Marisa to keep her question quiet. But when Reimu showed up it ruined everything.
Divine spirits or spirits that failed to become youkai... Reimu doesn't seem sure? So... proto-youkai are fairly similar to divine spirits, which are in turn fairly similar to vulgar spirits? I feel like I need a refresher on the difference between vulgar and divine spirits... Divine spirits are like... ascended humans of a sort, while vulgar spirits are the manifestations of desire?
Which means that proto-youkai being potentially confused with divine spirits means either that Byakuren's thinking that gods and youkai aren't so different after all has a lot of ground... or that Reimu's intuition is more of a spider-sense than a spirit sight, where she can sense 'something' is there, but not exactly what. Which does seem to be how it's been portrayed in FS...
I think it's a decent translation. I mean, 'codification' might be a bit closer, but its not any less obscure of a word. 'Standardization' might be a more common word, but isn't quite as accurate. And also it's apparently also the word they actually use so keep it in.
Page 258, panel 4: "Oujia's a foreigner". I doubt I would have noticed if it weren't spelled right the other 8 times it shows up on that page.

I write some fanfiction. Satori's Tale is done... but I'm not.Personally, I didn't realize how much I needed it in my life until he started talking.
I actually have no idea what a vulgar spirit is. In TD, some people call them divine spirits and other people call them vulgar spirits, but it's not clear if it was supposed to be a "reveal" or what. Also, of course, divine spirits also include beings like Kanako, so...
Here, though, it seems like a vulgar spirit is just the ghost of a rat or something? Since it would know about food stores. Or is it the wish of a rat? And then another one ended up attached the Ouija board and was even transported overseas.
Reimu was "surprised", so apparently she didn't even notice the divine spirits (?) in Suzunaan until she actually tried to invoke one, so whatever she has its not just passive spirit sight. Except she totally saw some gods in WaHH without realizing they were gods? And she actually invoked a vulgar spirit anyway...?
So, yeah, that's how it is.
What, specifically, did you find confusing? Mostly they use dialog cues to show the passage of time, so that'd be my fault.

Okay so hey guys I just found out that U Li L has released and I just began playing it and I just completed Miko's story after doing Marisa and Kasen and
Why the fuck is Byakuren a biker.
because hell yea
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaBecause she's the turbo granny from hell! *guitar riff*
Her urban legend of choice is "turbo granny"
Try to ignore that the turbo granny traditionally runs on all fours
Eh? No, what I was complaining about was that the passage of time was mostly indicated through dialogue cues rather than the art

I didn't know turbo granny was a thing. Learn something new everyday I guess.
So far I'm finding this one a lot better than HM though I'm still getting used to the different inputs from my usual HM combos.
Also reading the translated text in the wiki and having Nitori ask "You want me to hand over my balls?" made me giggle and I feel so immature for this
They says "balls" constantly, so you're not the only one. Actually, someone made a collage out of it.
I think in the long run we'd probably be better off changing it to orbs or something.
Edit: Found it: [1] Huh, that has the exact same number of notes as my ULiL plot summary...

It's a Dragon Ball reference, though
We can still call them Occult Balls when the say the full name, just switch it up a bit in the rest of the dialog.
The balls are inert.
I just realized an implication of Nitori calling that she is selling balls.
Continue the bloodline, Fujimaru!ULiL patch 1.03 has been released. Other than gameplay tweaks, it also added a camera flash to Sumireko's selfie-taking.
Meanwhile, here's ULiL generic patcher 1.1. It has removed one further check from the program, which should prevent some other crashes. http://1drv.ms/1Kx7rrl

Stop atrican from crawling out of the dumpster! Touhou status updates>balls
I suspect, but cannot be sure to what extent, that the silliness of everyone keeping saying "balls balls" was part of the intention. I dunno. Haven't got the time to give the script a thorough check.
>systematization
For replacement, "proceduralize" and "proceduralization"? These words are even longer lol. I think in their dialog, they can just say "turn into a system/procedural", etc.
Or we can just replace with "formalize" and "formalization".
>vulgar spirit
The trouble with 低俗霊/俗霊 is that it seems to be a pseudoscience terminology, rather than proper religious theory with a long history, which makes researching it difficult. When searching the word, the only thing that consistently turns up is a manga series named after it. (WARNING: while the page I linked is safe for work, the actual manga cover art may be not)
I feel "vulgar spirit" is an appropriate enough translation. Kosuzu's line can be tweaked, e.g. "less noble," "less high-minded".

Stop atrican from crawling out of the dumpster! Touhou status updatesTo be honest, I don't see anything wrong with "systematization" in the first place? Like, why is that a problem for people?
edited 26th May '15 7:31:11 AM by Clarste
I don't have a strong opinion about the word, but I do have some idea about what seems off.
"To systematize" is most commonly used in "to systematize knowledge", i.e. organizing scattered pieces of knowledge into something coherent and systematic.
What システム化 seems to mean here is instead "to build a system for performing a certain task". The "system" here is not a system of knowledge, but an efficient, repeatable method (Ouija board) for said task (calling spirits). An example.

Stop atrican from crawling out of the dumpster! Touhou status updates
Wooooo new FS!
Good old Rinnosuke He's a fun character, he got so excited that he got to share his wisdom with the ladies... the minor is out past sundown? Pfft, who cares, there is obscure American Game Trivia to be shared!! (Kosuzu looked really cute when she carefully raised her hand there; very childlike)
Hellz yeah, English in Touhou! Wasn't perfect, but I am surprised that those two knew that much.
Reimu continues to look badass.
...hmm, yeah, that did end up being pretty much a non-issue ^^ Oh well.
They are. Very readable, though. If you're interested, Clarste might have a link?
