Wait, PoFV is last? They must really love Yuuka.

This Youtube user has some attack vids.

As for epicness... Utsuho looks just plain terrifying, especially her True Final Boss stage where you fight her in a barren wasteland with Hidden Eyes.

[up][up]well, im not sure if that or UFO will be last, all I know is that when the first game was announced, they said it was gonna be a 4 game series, and that was not too long after UFO came out, I believe.

Well, PoFV makes sense to me, mostly because of how much they love Yuuka. Also Eiki seems more "final boss" to me than Byakuren. Probably just get UFO over with in the beginning like they handled MoF. Maybe throw SWR in the middle somewhere.

i just feel that 3 and 4 should have switched.

ending with a climactic battle above a scorched earth is much more exiting than resolving an incident involving unseasonal flowers

[up][up][up]It's possible they'll pull a Super Robot Wars Alpha and release a "Gensou Shoujo Taisen Gaiden" before the fourth game, I guess.

[up][up]Might I remind you that SA is the "unexpected hotsprings" incident? I'm sure they would tie Po FV into some larger plot about the Ministry of Right and Wrong, maybe connect that storyline to Makai somehow (which is of course where Byakuren is). And you'd have to fight Komachi, who has infinite-range attacks.

I get the feeling that GST 4's UFO plot is going to have a bit of Mystic Square thrown in. And I don't really mind that as long as we get an epic double boss fight against Shinki and Byakuren.

As for the developers really liking Yuuka, I was getting the vibe that they also really liked Sanae. It must be the green hair...

She is a martial artist who slew a thousand youkai in defense of her village, shedding her humanity and becoming that which she fought.

And then she said welp guess I'd better go work as a gardener for a vampire.

And she did.

Meiling's list of life goals is full of checks.

But no balances?

Speaking of FMW 3, I just realized today that the combined IN + SA + SSIB thing they've got going in that game is perhaps the most epic Touhou story every told or tellable, at least in terms of awesome music and boss fights. Well, I haven't actually played it yet, I just have to assume it is because I can't see how it wouldn't be.

Heh... FMW 4 would be a Heaven and Hell theme, considering what games are left.

Well, Po FV makes sense to me, mostly because of how much they love Yuuka. Also Eiki seems more "final boss" to me than Byakuren. Probably just get UFO over with in the beginning like they handled Mo F. Maybe throw SWR in the middle somewhere.

To me, the pattern was pretty straight forward from when they presented the chronology of the games. They started at 6 and went up 1 for every release. So Phantasmagoria of Flower Viewing(10) would make sense to be the finale.

Also, Po FV and SWR are games in which supposedly Reimu didn't win. I wonder how they will do that.

Everything is relative.

(!WARNING: Pure Touhou M1-Grand Prix-Fanboyism ahead!)

Holy &%§$ you guys! surprised Was just looking for potential avatars for Cirno Day, when I stumbled upon the Touhou Wikia... and read this:

On July 12, 2014, the remake for the 2nd M-1 Grand Prix was announced to be released at Comiket 86.

surprised

That's the first I've heard of that! Wow! Maaaan, so excited! Although..... it is quite brutal, that is another year without Kokoro, Seija, DDMC Hammer and the others in a Grand Prix... On the other hand... remastered versions of the legendary CHEEEEENNNNNNN (and Mokou/Kaguya, too)....

(scrolls further down the page..)

...oh wow, I had just typed out a plea to you guys when Comiket 86 would be?... and then I read further down the page:

2nd Touhou M-1 Grand Prix R, released on August 16

Waaaaaahhhhhhhh

...and I gotta get to work in 10 minutes!

...OK, gonna check YT when I come back evil grin

Yaaaaayyyy

Looks like Tei Reisen got into the finals instead of Hourai Teruyo for this one. Which makes Mokou's sudden intrusion all the more jarring

Not really a fan of the change in artstyle they've got going for the remake. Doesn't really capture the over-the-top expressions in the original one as well.

The extension to the Patchu Mirin sketch was hilarious though.

Back! grin Ok, first off, I'm confused about something. The thread has several times during its long history commented on the difference between the Touhou Wiki and Wikia. All those times, I didn't understand a word... there was some drama or something and there's probably technical differences... I seemed to (mis?)understand that the Wikia was somehow obsolete. Yet, now that I stumbled into it by accident... at least the M1 Grand Prix page was much better than that of the Wiki! surprised It had short descriptions of every skit, a lot of bonus info, and oh yeah, an actual disclaimer that a new one was out >:(. So, does someone know the difference? smile

Zansnae! grin One other Grand Prix Watcher! [tup] Awesome! However, important question! Where did you watch it? The only one on YT is down for copyright!! *cries* sad

Basically what happened was that the wiki used to be at Wikia, but moved. But Wikia doesn't allow people to take things down, so it's still there, just without the original staff (and with all of Wikia's bullshit). Which means that people may stumble across it and add stuff to it, but not the other

Re: laying out a FMW-style crossover story

I'd put EOSD and SA in the first part, and delay MOF to at least the second part. Because both theme-wise and worldbuilding-wise, those are two most isolated stories. They'll function as an introduction to the basic tropes of Touhou, which will be broken in future chapters.

Part of the reasoning behind this is: the MOF-HM event chain isn't so important it absolutely has to be maintained for such a crossover story, while one of MOF's central tropes, "a new shrine appeared in Gensokyo", actually needs a status quo of "there is only one shrine and one miko" to build upon.

I would take pains to organize the different strands that make up Touhou into different subplots - the mischievous, carefree innocence of PC-98 era, the depressed, gothic decadence of early Windows era, the majesty of the Eternal Night-Ephemeral Moon saga, and the everyday life folklore focus of post-2010 Touhou. They would interact with each other, and the characters would actually gain wisdom and insight into different ways of life.

I'm not sure sure that's a good idea, because they're the most isolated stories. There's a lot of worldbuilding you're missing that way

I'd swap EoSD out for PCB, which introduces a number of important concepts and characters

[up]PCB's placement does give me headaches. My feeling is, PCB's impact as THE story that properly establishes the Touhou universe is impossible to replicate given our premise of SRW-style crossover, so I wouldn't even try that. Instead, I wanted the first part to introduce Gensokyo through other subplots: characters discussing the Danmaku Rules, Yukari's mission briefing on the exiles of Former Hell, and the human village folklore stories of post-2010 Touhou.

Basically, I want to portrait EOSD and SA as a baseline, "just another day in Gensokyo", so that later stories can go bigger and higher. PCB might go together with POFV and SWR.

For the ending, given what we currently have to work with, I'd use the ending I had in mind when I first read SSIB:

The SSIB story will be a comedy of errors (SSIB is already a comedy of errors, but this one would involve more comedic action-adventure), culminating in an air chase over Lunar Capital that lit its sky with the fireworks of danmaku. In the end, the characters returned to Gensokyo, and discovered that they have unintentionally released Chang'e from her prison. They had a great feast, and Chang'e went on to live in Gensokyo, the end.
