I'm thinking I should write some fanfiction too.

Though there's plenty of other good factors about her, I like Koishi because of the games more than any other. SA's Extra Stage is epic - its theme is my favourite of all. I think Koishi is the hardest boss from Touhou, and her theme is right up there as well. Many good remixes for it.

That remind me, I really should sometimes begin that "Comedic Retelling of X (Subterranean Animism)" thing, but I just hadn't had the motivation to begin. Maybe its because I am not clear how to even begin it (I want to stick to close to canon as possible).

That is actually a really good question! Since you also posed the theory that the have-read-all-of-the-threaders are also Thread Youkai. Fairies always swarm around powerful youkai. Hmm.... probably not powerful enough

Well, maybe, but that shouldn't matter! If they're your favorites, that's great! I certainly don't mind them. Just that they exist is great, as a Gensokyo faction and a foil to the Myouren Temple. Miko's fabulously awesome and Futo rules all noobz.

I decided to check my first post in this thread, and I must admit, I simply just slid myself into the thread. Admirably, I did try to post a link, but because I just had joined, it didn't work and I had to disguise my post.

It took me a while to get into the Intense Taoists. Probably the only one I slightly like now is Futo actually, even if I feel she'd get a rather negative representation in my fanfic. But. She has those sleeves. With those, there is a chance she might one day be playable.

She does indeed! And what sleeves they are, certainly my favorite in all of Touhou. Yeah, the mikos' Detached Sleeves are iconic and nice and all, but Futo's multi-colour-ribboned, child-trying-on-parent's-clothes-oversized sleeves are where it's at! Pure style.

If we're talking actual factions then my favorite would of course be the Tengu, but that's more than the sum of its parts, and has a lot of off-screen characters. The in-game group with the highest ratio of my favorite characters would be the Taoists though. I just like their deal.

Tengu are cool! And you're right, there's so much of them behind the scenes! Like their leader, and a whole other sub-species, the long-nosed tengu.

Nice, Clarste, I like the idea of stating one's favorite faction (and, just to establish from the start, we shouldn't bicker about our personal definition of "faction" here . If it's a faction to someone, that's good enough.)

Now, as for my favorite one... hmmmmmmm. Wow, that is actually interesting, I had never really thought about it . I do like all factions equally, you could say. I apparently just consider them all "essential for the overall canon", so to speak; like I said about the Taoists, I'm just glad they exist at all, and that's meant in a positive way. Man, that's a boring answer ^^.

...I mean, I could add up which factions have the most number of characters that I love, but that would be automatically favoring the really big ones.

OK, just to give an answer (I imagined the thread holding a metaphorical gun to my head ^^): my favorite faction is the Scarlet Devil Mansion, I guess. It has Sakuya and Meiling, who I love. It has lots of open backstory and mysteries (Sakuya's past, everyone's past, really). They have a nice organization and rank structure, making them a nice scenario for a game or story for a mounting progression of boss difficulty (duh, like the game itself ^^). Remilia provides endless fun possibilities, for both comedic and dramatic stories. They have all different kinds of loyalty, friendship, family, etc. So yeah. These guys.

Well, no , I didn't mention everybody... Sakuya and Meiling are the two SDM chars who are in my Top 10, so I mentioned them specifically... Patchy is freakin' awesome, but I guess I just take her kinda for granted as "part of" the SDM, so I didn't specifically point her out. Same for Flandre and Koa. But just the fact alone that she is part of my favorite faction should be enough to satisfy your fowl mood at me, right?

I certainly am - but for a while, I wasn't.

So I didn't really care about anyone past Po FV. Except maybe Byakuren because she looked nice. Then one day I decided to get that off my back and now I like the second trilogy far more, actually.

(ps. it says from London but I'm on holiday in Croatia atm ^_^')

Point was that Futo is playable in Hopeless Masquerade.

Indeed, and I am curious if Eon knew that (strongly suspecting s/he did).

It does, however, also again show the great difference in attitudes that has always existed in Touhou concerning the term "playable character". I find it quite interesting! For me, and maybe others, the terms "playable char" and "Main Char" are usually automatically synonymous, without thinking. Meaning that I kinda always only count Reimu, Marisa, Youmu, Sakuya and Sanae as "playable", even though that's really wrong ^^. The playable chars from the PC-98 games, the Phantasmagoria games, and especially the fighting games, somehow don't really "count" for me... kinda like bonus gimmicks. Like I said, no sense in that. It just is kinda different if you're "only" playable in a fighting game, or if you're one of the Big Five. If any of that made sense.

@Favorite Faction: Youkai Mountain, hands down. If I had to specify which part I guess I would go with the Moriya Goddesses, but the Tengu are certainly another interesting part of the mountain. The Kappa I can take or leave. Honestly, I think I'm just drawn to civilization and the mountain is the technological base of Gensokyo. It's difficult to say which group has the highest ratio of in-game favorites because I have Sanae and Aya in the Top 3 and Hatate and Kanako in the Middle of my Top 10.

I have no horse, and I must ride. I accomplish unlockments.

Yeah, I don't count fighting games as making them playable.

However, Po FV raises an interesting point because you start with Reisen, but she hasn't appeared anywhere since. I like to think she could be considered one, but it's rather a stretch.

I like the Youkai Grassroots group because they have a wuff and waggy.

Also Choujuu Gigaku because it contains a kyoukers and a mystia.

These probably do not significantly count as factions.
