All Purpose Negima Fanfiction Thread

The first one didn't seem to be that bad at first, even if a bit too energetic.

'YAAAAAAAYYYY!! KOBAYASHI'S GOING TO BE A MAGICAL GIIIIIIIRL!!!!'

The second one seemed a bit too hairy... or furry... and that should have been his first warning sign.

'Ooooohh, a highly revealing Magical Girl outfit! More daring than my usual clothes, and considering I'm always topless, that's saying something... But very nice all the same! And you're the second cutest thing EVER! Wanna meet the first one? He's my pet!'

Then she opened that small box, and he knew true horror.

The third one seemed the right age and gifted with the right attitude, until she suddenly seemed to get tired of playing along and dropped her cheerful kiddy tone, changing into a towering buxom woman before his eyes.

"Critter. You came to the wrong place. I'm actually Hild, Queen of Nifelheim. And while it's been fun to skip around for this while, I don't enjoy being pulled along at all..."

Now that had gone ugly.

The fourth one simply said, "Ummm, sorry, but I'm already a Magical Girl..."

Then her pet cat peked out of the kitchen. "Oh, for Queen Serenity's sake... Kyubey, not you again! Usagi, he's the little creep I told you about..."

That had gone even worse.

But nothing could prepare him for the fifth one.

She only grinned at the power given to her, her eyes sparkling with a supernatural evil the likes of which Kyubey could never suspect existed.

"AHHH HA HA HA HA! NOW I'LL EXPAND LOVE AND PEACE THROUGH THE UNIVERSE WITH MY SOS MAGICAL BRIGADE! IT WILL SO GREAT!!!"

At the ensuing trial, even Mxyzptlk was voting against him. The guy who once gave The Joker universal destruction powers, for Shinbo's sake.

Kyubey wondered what kind of higher power out there had come to hate him so much, and why.

Nodoka gently placed her backpack on the small table in her room. Both Yue and Haruna were at their club meetings, so she wouldn't have to worry about them bursting in on her for an hour.

She opened the pack, and the small being — Kyubey, Nodoka mentally corrected herself — slowly crawled out, still injured. She reached for the first-aid kit, intending to bandage up the wounds in Kyubey's side. It looked like a graze to her, but surely would be much worse for the smaller animal.

Kyubey turned its head to look at her. I'm not actually an animal, Nodoka-chan.

Nodoka jolted back, startled. No, no, wait, Kyubey hastily thought to her. I...I'm sorry. I usually don't go listening in to people's private thoughts, but I'm not at full capacity right now. Nodoka could feel it trying to convey a sense of regret to her, and forgave it.

"R-right... well, Kyubey-san, what are you exactly?", she asked as she gently lifted it and placed it onto her bed.

Kyubey visibly strained to raise itself onto its feet, and compensated by remaining seated on the soft mattress before beginning.

I am one of a very special group of beings, it thought to her after a moment. We are a race blessed with the unique ability to transform people into something that we call Puella Magi. You see, there are things scattered all over the world called 'Witches'. These Witches possess great powers, but hide in strange lairs and influence the thoughts of people who live nearby. After a moment, it added They live by causing people to despair and lose their will to continue, you see.

Nodoka shivered a little, suddenly scared. If Kyubey-san was here, recruiting people to fight against the Witches, did that meant that there were already Witches in the area?

"U-um, Kyubey-san... what exactly does a Puella Magi do?", she asked, the words feeling somewhat strange and unfamiliar in her mouth.

Kyubey lifted an ear. Like I told you, fight Witches. But there's more to it than that: Sometimes, when a Witch is destroyed, they leave behind a little treasure for you, a little reward for you being able to defeat them. It slumped back down, still recuperating. There's also something very special I can do for someone who decides to become a Puella Magi.

Nodoka blinked again. "Something special? What's that."

I can grant any one wish they ask of me, no matter what it is.

"Wha- anything?"

Kyubey nodded.

Nodoka was lost for words at this. Anything she could wish for? That was a world of possibility she hadn't quite expected. She dully remembered books in which something similar had happened — a mystical being had been saved by an ordinary, completely normal person, and had offered to grant them any one wish as their thanks. It was all so unrealistic, so extreme, so incredible that she began to doubt Kyubey was telling the truth.

"U-um, not to be rude, but... Are you... really that powerful?"

Kyubey must have picked up on her hesitation and the doubt in her eyes, because it tilted it's head.

Yes, Nodoka. I can really do that. It gave a little mental chuckle. Would I lie to you? , it asked, swishing it's tail back and forth.

"I... well..." Nodoka stalled, trying to decide what to do.

Kyubey noticed the way she dithered, and quickly added; Don't worry. There's no rush. When I came here, I felt as if there was a barrier around this area, as if someone was trying to keep magical beings away. It fell silent for a moment. Perhaps I was too confused by the barrier to realise where I was going, and got caught that way...

Nodoka didn't move for a moment. Hm?

She clasped her hands together, bowing her head. "I'm sorry, Kyubey-san, that you got hurt."

You... Kyubey seemed lost for words momentarily, staring at her. Then that little not-smile curved his little mouth, and his eyes closed in happiness. You've got a good heart, Nodoka-chan. That's the kind of person who makes the best kind of Puella Magi.

"R-really?", Nodoka said, blushing slightly at this compliment. It wasn't very often that she was praised for something.

Then the sounds of voices and footsteps echoed down to the room, and Nodoka realised that Yue and Haruna were back. /Already? Time really does fly.../ She hurriedly motioned for Kyubey to get back inside her backpack, and placed it safely out of sight into a corner when he was hidden away.

The door burst open, and an energetic Haruna charged through. "Heya, Nodoka! What're you spacing out for?"

Yue edged in, carrying a thick book with Greek lettering on the front. "Calm down, Haruna. Maybe she just wanted some paece and quiet," Yue said, looking pointedly at Haruna.

"Pah, Paru-sama says to that! Life exists to be lived!"

Nodoka, still being shaken by Haruna, smiled slightly.

Later that night, she lay awake, looking up at the bunk above her.

/Any wish I can think of.../

She turned over, deciding to get some sleep.

/Maybe I can become a Puella Magi,/ she smiled to herself as she drifted off to sleep.
