How about a picture of a elephant? There is no other animal I can think of with those kind of ears, does not get much more unusual then that.
^Not actually my favorite animal. The trope is about (humanish) anime characters with (nonhuman) animal ears, and similar.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The only reason that image encroaches on JFC territory is because the image is so tightly cropped, it makes the ears difficult to pick out.
Heck, even a JFC of Inu Yasha would likely be better than that.

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.The current picture depicts the trope. It might not be the world's greatest image, but it's a good one. Certainly not JAFAAC.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickYeah, I don't see the problem with the current picture. The ears are clearly visible.
It is... cropped too tightly? I dunno. Not saying it's totally wrong. Just saying it could be better. Disagree?
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. In one week the new Negima special will be relaesed. 99 % of the people in it will have Unusual Ears in it so we can wait till the to replace it IMO.
Edit: the third one might work right now and just replace it with the high def version when it comes out (big help that beatrix is like pointing out her normal ears to the camera.) I can't cut it though someone else will have to.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!It's certainly not a bad image. But does anyone have a slightly bigger one of the same character?
Utawarerumono has a few options.
It would be nicer if they were where Ears are suppose to be so it cant be mistaken for just a Nekomimi hair band.
I would of suggested Kotaro if that wernt the case.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!For this kind of trope, JAFAAC is permissible, and probably even desirable, because the trope is only about physical features.
That said, I think the current image (and Wilbyr's suggestions) are only "OK" trope images, because it's not entirely clear that we're looking at ears and not... oh, some sort of head gear? The "downward-pointing" ears are a slightly unusual style of Unusual Ears.
I like the Holo image, which is more like what I expect to see with this trope.
Jet-a-Reeno!The holo option is ok. I prefer it or the original. I want something that's cropped tight and doesn't have any other animal features in the image. I want the focus to be on the head and the ears. That's what the trope is about. Ears. Having more stuff around the image makes it a worse image.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI like that picture of Holo. It's cheery, shows the ears clearly, and isn't cropped tightly. It's also circular.. you don't see very many round pictures on this sight. :)
I think Holo does not look like she is wearing a headband, the ears blend into her hair. And the picture would appear on a page called UNUSUAL EARS. It's nice :)

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The Holo picture works fine.
Reaction Image RepositoryIf it needs changing, go with Holo. Nice and clear.
Put in Holo, but, wanted to comment, Raso's [3◊] is excellent.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The problem I have with Horo is that, with her ears' position, you could think she wears a nekomimi hairband, and the hair masks the base of her ears as well.
Rodney Anonymous' pic just above, though, is nice.
Just thought about it, but the Nedian characters in Star Ocean : The Second Story are great contenders for this trope.
If you want to ask me, among the three pics below, Chisato is the best one, since 1) you can clearly see it's her ears, placed where they should be, and 2) the hair don't mask them. The pics are easily croppable to get rid of the text, too.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Note that we have Pointy Ears as a separate trope for that sort of thing.
What's precedent ever done for us?In that case, what about the O'Haras in the Lucky Luke album Les Rivaux de Painful Gulch ("The Rivals of Painful Gulch")? They're human, with abnormal round ears.
I can't find any suitable picture readily available on the web, but there's a panel in the album with Lucky Luke among several members of the O'Hara family I can scan if you want.
"Your kindness gives me the presentiment I can be reborn. Now, I want to believe at least in you." - Kaori YaeMany Unusual Ears characters do fall into the "hairband" placement, because when they're animal-like ears, it makes the most visual sense for them to be placed in animal-like locations.
It does need to be something more than typical Pointy Ears though.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up....Not to sound unpleasant, but I had already understood that, given up on the Star Ocean 2 pics, and passed to another radically different example already.

Just A Face And A Caption: Unusual Ears
...but! That picture does, in fact, depict a character with unusual ears. Something better? Contrast? A group, maybe?
