It's still in the history if you want to save it for archiving somewhere else.

Wait, why is it locked? Was there actual edit waring over it? Pages shouldn't be locked every time there's an administrative decision about them, only when they really aren't working as unlocked pages due to constant conflicts. When you lock a page, you're turning off the Wiki Magic and declaring its current state to be as good as it's ever going to get (at least until it's unlocked), so that's a pretty extreme step to take... and there's still lots of reasons this page needs to be edited as it is, aside from what we're discussing here.

For one thing, shouldn't the comprehensible part be first, and the incomprehensible self-demonstrating part lower? I thought that the idea of Example As Thesis was that we'd always start with the most easy-to-understand summary and thesis of an article, and reserve weird jokes and such for further down... that way, people can always get the idea of a page at a glance, preferably from the first sentence or two and without needing to unravel a joke like this one (or without having to figure out where they need to scroll to to read the part that makes sense.)

I vote for a Just For Fun "True Art is Potato" page in memorial of the good times.

Pages shouldn't be locked every time there's an administrative decision about them, only when they really aren't working as unlocked pages due to constant conflicts.
And the page wasn't working. Millions of tropers read the page and just enough of them thought to themselves, "That's pretty funny, but it could really use more of exactly the same thing. The nonsense accumulated until it was overwhelming the purpose of the page (it is an index); the repetition killed the humor value; and any time someone tried to trim it down, someone else would manually revert it. Wiki magic failed.

I might as well say this here:

This wiki has a bad attitude when it comes to art. The way the True Art pages describe art and artists, you get the impression that they were written by somebody who failed English in high school and is using artists and art lovers as surrogates for their old teacher, writing stuff like this as a way to get even.

"Wax on, wax off..." "But Mr. Miyagi, I don't see how this is helping me do Karate..." "Pubic hair is weakness, Daniel-san!"

Zabu, the point of the True Art Is tropes is that they are used as weapons within the work: "If it isn't <whatever> it can't be art." That's the trope.

We show far more respect to artists than we really should.
