-before i jump in is this like cathari's ancient session where there were defined roles and such or can i just do "i am a space zebra and i need to defend the solar system from nebulions

Try to keep it in line with fantasy, but not absurdly over the top. Wizard of some type, warrior, druid, priest of something, maybe even an animal. But not "I'm the "incarnation of rock n' roll" here to bring the thundaa!"

The wisp and its ally hover in place, doing no harm. They do not speak, but nothing they do seems to be a threat of any sort. The guards keep their weapons up though, just in case.

Jaxfirebus: (3) You hand the keys to the good Dr. Gerald, who accepts them with a smile. He mounts your Ebony Horse, and unlocks the chain attaching it to the fence. He takes off, ebony horse in tow, you know not whether he or your horse will come back.

Black Mage Anolis: (5, 2) You whisper a spell, and you feel a chill settle on you, assuring the the trap had been set. You then take a swing at the wisp again, but you miss, sadly.

capnrecked: (4, 5) You manage to step out of the combat zone, being just missed by a stray energy bolt. With a few muttered words, and gestures in the direction of the guards, they are healed by a red light.
The priestess sets a wisp alight with a holy fire, and its light dissolves into nothing. The remaining wisps start going on the defensive, evading the guards blows, and charging them rarely.

Oh look, a ghost!

You can see one of the armor suits get off its platform, assuming a menacing posture. It has a noticeable stylized sun symbol on its breastplate, that seems to be filling the room with an odd golden-hued light.

Black Mage Anolis: (4)

The wisps hover in place, offering no harm.

capnrecked: (3) You cast a defense boon on the guards, though they do not seem to notice it. Energy bolts and the occasional crossbow bolt fly through the air. The preistess mutters something, which destroys one wisp, leaving one running away from her, right into another guard. It is not down yet, but seems to be flickering and on its last legs.
You see no other creature that may attack.

Heya, doods! Finally back after so long (hopefully!) Sorry to butt in- considering joining in on this too!

The wisps seem to comply, slowly flitting away into the treetops until their light was obscured by the trees and overpowered by the slowly rising sun.

Black Mage Anolis: (N/A) You watch carefully, and the whole thing is resolved peacefully.

The wisps flitter away into the treetops, their light soon overtaken by the slowly rising sun. In the corner of your eye, you notice a familiar snout pop out of the brush, then back in.

Cathari Sarad: (5)

The animated armor raises its gauntlets, and five rods of light form above it. You roll out of the way as all five of them are tossed your way at same time.

capnrecked: (N/A) The last wisp is slain by a spell from the priestess. She then approaches you. You feel as though she might ask any number of questions, since you are a stranger. You prepare for any questions like 'Where are you from?' to inquiries about your god.

Savaget 1337: (6) You cover your eyes, anticipating some blinding attack.

And so the Sphinx gives you an Info Dump, while still clarifying nothing about the situation. With your eyes covered, it's hard to tell what's going on.

Lime Kid: Good to have you back. You may rejoin if you wish, maybe using your old character, starting in an inn.

Are there any guidelines to making a character this time around? I'm a bit lost on the rules again, after being gone for so long!

Name, race, class and position is the starting town are all you need. I can randomize any or all of them for you if you'd like.
