So is she the witch that Sturm mentioned seeing? Sure seems like it. And of course, she's wearing priestess robes. It looks like that role is gonna be taunting me for eternity.

"Right... Yeah, hilarious... Hahaha..."

Turn 58

First time posts for this session require you to state a race and class of a Dnd/Fantasy RPG variety. This is an RTD with some continuity and I want to make sure you don't show up with space-themed stuff when that doesn't fit with the general theme. I also recommend reading through my previous posts to get a sense of how I run things and some of the things you don't want to do. You'll also get a sense of the stuff that's going on by doing so.

Considering how long this RTD has gone on for, it’s getting to the point where it’s difficult to keep track of what your character has already seen/known, even if you look back at previous posts. If anyone needs clarifications on their character’s surroundings/what they already know, or if anyone needs lore clarifications, feel free to ask with spoiler text or via PM. Also, if you’re a returning player who hasn’t played for a while in this session, I’ll need to reintroduce you to your surroundings, as you might not necessarily be in the same spot as when you last played.

Philosopher: (5) Seeing as you don’t want to find out what would happen if this statue lingered around for too long, you begin looking through your summoning book for anything that will help you de-summon this thing. In one of the early chapters of the book, you find a section on undoing summons. You read over it carefully, and then close the book once you’re done. You put your summoning book away and then point your implement at the unicorn statue. You then perform the necessary ritual, and you see a reddish summoning circle appear from underneath. Although you see many arcane symbols within the circle, there also seem to be a few wedge-like teeth pointing towards the center. After about a minute, you see the statue completely disintegrate, and the circle goes away. You also feel as though you can sustain another minion once again. After this, your ghost comes up to you and says, "Whew, looks like you took care of that. Say, what sort of arcane text was that thing written in? I’m not really one to read, but I don’t really recognize that lettering. It’s kinda eldritch-lookin’. Where are you from anyway?" Although you kinda took it for granted, your summoning book had been written in English.
Trip (5); Ashen Goat Demon (1,3): You scream like some morbidly obese, sandvich-eating, Russian guy and try to perform basic fire removal maneuvers. Despite the fact you’re still bound, you manage to escape out of the impaling spikes. While you feel a shot of pain as the spikes rip into your right foot, you still seem to be able to move it. Rolling around backwards seems to put out the fire. The demon tries to lunge forward to attack, but now you’re completely out of its reach. Thus, it tries to remove itself from its bind, but it still seems to be stuck in place.
BRaHiAn1: (2) You don’t know whether this is the same person Sturm met with. He probably would have mentioned something about the person having twelve arms, wings, and an oversized scythe if this was the same person though. And you haven’t really seen anyone wear a wide-brimmed hat so far, and it doesn’t look like it would be particularly common in this world. Still, you try to play along with the witch. Louise quickly flash-steps, rips out the spine out of one of the fleeing laguz, and then hurls her ten axes at all of the dragonborn soldiers still left standing. They spin around in the air and then cleave all of her targets’ skulls simultaneously. She then yanks the axes back by tugging on their chains, leaving the corpses to fall on the ground. She then flash-steps in front of you, displaying only her scythe while concealing the rest of her arms.

She says, "Oh? You didn’t really sound too sincere about that. Well, looks like we’ll have to do something about that." She then shifts her scythe to her left hand, and then plunges her thumb and her index finger into your left eye socket, skewering through your eyelids in the process. "Tuturu~!" She then rips your eyeball out of the socket, and you feel blood flowing down your left cheek along with immense pain.    "KYAHAHAHAHA!!!    That was fun wasn’t it? Huh, I feel like I’m forgetting something. Oh yeah,    I’M GOING TO SWALLOW YOUR SOUL!    But first, I’m going to give you a fifteen minute head start. Killing you right here would be too easy. Besides,    I WANT TO SEE YOU RUN AWAY IN TERROR WHILE I CHASE YOU DOWN! YOU’LL BE SO MUCH MORE APPETIZING WHEN YOUR HEART HAS BECOME FILLED WITH NOTHING BUT FEAR! Go on then, little one… RUN WHILE YOU STILL CAN! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"    As you look around, you see the war galleys begin to turn around, away from the shore.

Tabbune: (5) As you prepare your transformation ritual, your doge leaps forth and knocks the nearest skeleton on the ground disarming it. A cocoon-like structure surrounds you and for a moment your vision goes black. You hear the sounds of crossbow bolts ding off your shell. About a minute later and a few more shots later, you emerge from the cocoon with your new form. You have now become a plant elemental. Unless you have a specific form in mind, you look like a Spriggan or something like it. For however long this form lasts, your shaman spells and nature-based abilities are slightly more powerful.
Jondanger 23: (1) You get up from the hammock and begin to walk to the exit in order to go outside. However, just after a few steps, you fall into a hole. You try to grab onto the sides as you descend, but you miss and scrape your hands on the sides of the hole. You try to spread out your legs to lodge yourself in place, but the hole is too wide for your scrawny dwarf legs and arms. Instead you continue colliding with the sides of the hole, probably gaining quite a few bruises in the process. From above, you hear the orc say, “How the hell did that get here?” After about a minute and a half of falling, you eventually reach the bottom and land flat on your stomach. Surprisingly, the bottom of the hole seems to be lit by a series of glowing orbs floating nearby. As you struggle to get up, the orc says, "You alright down there? Here, you might want this back." Once you support yourself on your legs and arms, you feel the crossbow slam right into your left foot, pinning it in place. "Sorry about that. Didn’t think it would land there. You see anything down there?" As you look around, you seem to be in the middle of an intersection amongst four roughly perpendicular tunnels.

Tabbune: I probably should have responded to your question earlier. You don't remember seeing the woman around when she spoke to you, nor have I described her appearance to you directly. Also, given the description, she was probably communicating with you telepathically. You can't tell for certain whether or not she is still around. Make what you will of that.

I also recommend reading through my previous posts to get a sense of how I run things and some of the things you don't want to do. You'll also get a sense of the stuff that's going on by doing so.

Also, if you’re a returning player who hasn’t played for a while in this session, I’ll need to reintroduce you to your surroundings, as you might not necessarily be in the same spot as when you last played.

Jondanger 23: (5) After your statement, the orc says, "Hold on for a bit down there." You then hear the distant footsteps of the orc. You then lift the crossbow off your foot, freeing it. As you don’t particularly feel like exploring the tunnels at the moment, you mostly sit around and wait. After about fifteen minutes or so, you see several orcs looming over the hole. One of them begins widening the hole with a stone shovel. Once that’s done, they begin to lower down some sort of rope. It takes a few minutes for them to lower it down, as they seem to be adding more extensions onto it. Once the rope reaches the ground, you see three orcs descend into the hole. Two of them wear simple grass skirts while the other one has one made from leopard fur. The one wearing the leopard fur seems to have markings all over his body. The other two orcs, none of which you have met before, seem to have carried down the shovel and a wooden polearm. The one with the shovel also seems to have brought along a bag full of sticks.

The orc with the markings says, "Hmm… You don’t see that every day. Well short man, what clan do you hail from where they make strange trinkets such as this? And how did you stumble upon this strange passage. We can take you back up, but would you like to accompany us in exploring this strange phenomenon? See anything?"

The orc wielding the polearm says, "Looks like there’s a few lanterns every which way you go. Could be the work of enemies to the council."

Trip (4); Ashen Goat Demon (5,1): While the goat demon is still rooted, you take the opportunity to launch a magic missile at the thing. It lands squarely in the demon’s chest area, and pieces of the demon’s ashen skin begin flaking off, revealing a molten interior. Shortly after that, the demon crouches near the ground, and then leaps out of its binds. While high up in the air, it spins around twice and then lands right behind you, ready for another attack.
BRaHiAn1: (2) Seeing that you’re effectively fucked, you try to spend your last moments laughing maniacally. However, you’re too busy shitting your pants to pull off an effective laugh, instead your laugh is kinda lame. Louise says,    "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!    Dear god your laugh sucks! Even a mute could pull off a better laugh than you! Well, seems like you’re not going to run. What a shame. What a shame. Tell ya what, I’m going to let you live for a while longer. Once you’re a bit juicier, I’m going to come back to claim your soul. How’s that? Alrighty! See ya later Brah!" After that statement, the witch disappears from your sight, presumably by flash-stepping. You still get the feeling that she’s watching you. While some parts of the forest seem to have caught on fire up ahead, you don’t see anybody in sight, aside from the many corpses lying about and some of the injured dragonborn.
Tabbune: (4,6) Now in your new form, you wrap your right arm in thorny vines. You then begin to attack the remaining skeletons, starting with the one across the street that currently isn’t receiving a beating from your companion. As you begin to punch in the skeleton’s general direction, your arm extends its thorns, which skewer through all of the skeleton’s bones. Meanwhile, your doge simply rips the other skeleton to pieces with its claws. The last skeleton aims at you and then fires its crossbow, but you turn your arm to block the bolt. Shortly after that, you launch your thorns at the skeleton. Your attack pulverizes the skeleton completely into dust, with some of it collecting on the end of your thorn extensions.

You hear the voice once again,    "Oh? Were you just thinking of punching me in the face? Kihihihihihi…"    You then see a blonde-haired, human woman wearing a green schoolgirl’s uniform materialize in front of you while floating in the air. Her hair seems to be fashioned in a ponytail and her bangs cover her forehead. At the same time, you find that you cannot move any of your limbs or muscles. You cannot even manage the slightest of movements or speak whenever you try to do so. She speaks once again, though this time you only hear her voice come from her instead of all around, "Now, do you really think you’re powerful enough to punch me? You’re such a foolish little one. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM? I AM THE SUPREME GODDESS OF THIS WORLD! DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE A CHANCE AGAINST ME? COME ON, JUST LOB ME RIGHT IN THE FACE! YOU’RE SO WEAK YOU CAN’T EVEN MOVE YOUR ARMS! Now, KNEEL BEFORE ME YOU PATHETIC LITTLE SLAVE!    KYAHAHAHAHA!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!"    At this moment, you bend over to the ground against your will, bowing before the woman.

She continues, "That’s much better. Well, it seems you finally destroyed all those dwarven skeletons. I’ve still gotta troll Trip, so I can’t really stay for long. Well, this village is haunted, isn’t it?    KYAHAHAHAHA!!!"    After that, the woman disappears. You then notice your right arm start to turn grey, starting from the thorn extensions. Wherever the greyness spreads, your body starts to become numb. After about a minute, the greyness reaches your mid-forearm area, and the thorn-like extensions begin disintegrating into greyish dust. Your doge seems to have disappeared for the moment, though you might be able to summon it once again. Once the greyness goes near your elbow, you regain control of your body once more.

TheSpacePhantom: (3) You’ve already broken free from the black liquid. So instead, you try to escape from the multitude of ghosts. Although you climb up above the depression, the ghosts seem to keep appearing around you, showing no signs of leaving you.

Turn 60

Jondanger 23: (4) The orc with the markings says, "Very well, little one." He then turns and points to the tunnel ahead towards your left. "Let us start with that tunnel." You head along with him and the other orcs down that path. You walk for about a mile without seeing any turns or forks in the path. At the end, the tunnel opens out to a large, cylindrical chamber. "What in the world?"

You see a stone, cylindrical column about half as wide as the room go up to the ceiling, roughly at your level, and go downward about thirty or so feet. A set of wooden stairs wraps around the edge of the room in both directions, reaching the lower level after going a quarter-way around the chamber. As you try to look around the column, you see the edges of a fairly large tunnel continuing straight ahead, but you can’t see much else. You also see about six arbitrarily placed crates right on the wall face of the stairway. Although faint, you can faintly hear the sound of metal clinking far ahead.

TheSpacePhantom: (3) Seeing as you won’t be able to escape easily, you turn your attention to attacking the rest of the ghosts. Several of them start blinking towards you with their arms outstretched. You slice your knife through three of them, but they sort of just dissolve and pass through you. Every time they do so, you start feeling colder and colder. Yet even though you’re fighting back, the ghosts numbers haven’t really diminished, as there seems to be nine of them left. At the same time, you start to feel a bit feverish, and everywhere you look, there seems to be a unicorn head smiling at you in the distance. Additionally, several of the ghosts now seem to have faces resembling that of the blonde witch.
Trip {(5),(5,    1   )}; Ashen Goat Demon {(5,1),(1,3)}: Before you can work your binding spell, the goat demon slashes you, sending you back. The blow leaves a huge flaming gash in the middle of your torso and slices most of your left arm off. However, you quickly get back up, prepare your binding spell and aim it underneath the demon. Instead of metallic spikes, the binding circle brings forth prismatic claws which clamp onto the demon’s legs and arms, preventing it from moving. Then, you hear the demon cry out in pain as parts of the binds extend additional roots into the demon’s skin.

As you prepare another magic missile, the demon struggles to free itself, but it cannot escape at the moment. Once your spell is complete, you launch your projectile right into the goat demon’s massive skull. On impact, you see glowing cracks on the skull’s exterior. White light beams forth from the demon’s empty eye sockets. As more of the demon’s ashen skin flakes off, the cracks spread over the rest of its body. After about half a minute, a great explosion bursts forth from the demon, and the resulting shockwave throws you back. When the blast clears, you see nothing left of the demon, and it seems you are victorious.

   Oh wait, that’s not what happened… Kihihihihihi…

You should listen to this music.

Now, you were just about to launch your magic bolt at the goat-man. You felt confident that victory was in your hands since you had caused so much injury to the harmless little demon. But because you’re so foolish and misguided, you paused for a moment to look at Sheepie, who only wanted to be happy without some stupid wannabe witch trying to ruin his day.

As you prepared your spell, Sheepie tried to call to you, "Please Trip, why are you doing this to me? Do you hate me? I just wanted to be your friend." But no, Trip. You didn’t even try to listen to Sheepie! Instead, you just laughed like an evil person, because you’re a mean soulless prick who laughs at other people’s misfortune! Foolishly believing your had won, you launched your spell to try killing the demon. But just when your magic missile got halfway to killing poor sheepie, it swerved around and landed right into your knee in a miraculous twist of fate. You instantly scream in pain like the wuss you really are.

Right then, the Great Witch Cathari Sarad appeared right next to Sheepie, who was now a cute little demon. With the snap of her fingers, Sheepie was free from the cruel trap you had put him in. The demon said, "Gee, thanks Cathy! I am eternally grateful to you. You are totally not a hypocrite who abuses her plothax, I mean powers, for fulfilling some sort of sick, perverted power fantasy. You are the supreme goddess of this world and that must mean you are the epitome of goodness and justice."

Then, the Great and Wonderful Cathy turned to you, snapped her fingers like a pro, and said, "That’s right! As you had tried to harm one of my loyal subjects, you’re gonna have to pay for that. I am the one and only goddess of this world, and, of course, that also means I am your master Trip… Kihihihihihi… Are you ready for your punishment Trip? I’m not going to stop at simply shoving my foot down your throat. Oh no. I’m going to make sure you feel pain like you’ve never felt before. I’ve been waiting quite some time to do this. Kihihihihihihi… EYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! NOW MY MINION, TAKE YOUR VENGEANCE ON THIS PATHETIC SOUL!"

The demon, now freed from its bonds, leapt up into the air, did a magnificent triple-backflip, and then extended its right foot out to land right on top of your squishy little head. You tried to block with your hands, and you tried to summon your silly little barrier spell, but it seemed that your magic had failed you. In your last moments, you saw the demon land its foot right on your head. You died.    Re…

Oh, I’m not done with you yet. How can I simply resist watching you bleed? After all, you’re so incompetent that you couldn’t even defeat that demon even with the help of the enclosed instructions booklet! You are powerless against me. Now, lets get back to business.

Only seconds after your death, you found yourself whole once again, only you were strapped to a golden cross. The Great Witch Cathari Sarad hovered only feet away from you while carrying a whip. As you looked around you, you seemed to be floating within an empty, reddish void, though you could see many unicorns with happy smiles on their faces. As you have been such a bad person, Cathy then raised her whip and struck you with it. Again and again, you felt the painful blows of the whip strike every inch of your body for what seemed like hours. Every so often, you would die from all the pain, but Cathy simply revived you, because Cathy is the best witch. Of course, Cathy wasn’t so dull as to simply whip you. Every once in a while, she would change things up. Like ripping your nails out of your fingers with machinery, or scalping you, or overdosing you with strange mixtures that make you hallucinate, or dunking you in water repeatedly, or burying you in shit, or carving you down to your veins while keeping you alive, or burning you. She inflicted these and many other just punishments. You don’t know how long you had endured this, maybe a week, maybe a month, maybe years. For you there seemed to be no end in sight, as every time you would die, Cathy would revive you once again.

And finally, it just seemed to stop. For a brief minute, now as a disembodied soul, you no longer felt the endless torment of the blonde witch. For the moment, she doesn’t seem to be bothering you. You died. Respawn?

Okay, out of character stuff. I hope you managed to survive reading all that, and I hope I didn’t go too overboard with that. There’s nothing you really could have done to prevent that, as you were going to lose no matter what happened due to the circumstances/plothax/insanely overpowered GMPC that can fuck with dice rolls. Plus you’re a long time player and you still haven’t died yet. However, though you didn’t "defeat" the demon, I’m still counting that as a win. You’re probably going to get something once you respawn. You can spawn as the same wizard class or do something else, but your class will still display as Witch.

BRaHiAn1: (2) Although you look around, you can’t seem to find any pants. You see the cloaks the humans and the cthuloid wore, but they’re fairly bloodied and torn from battle. There’s also the loincloths the injured dragonborn seem to be wearing, but you don’t really want to touch them as they’re kinda sweaty and covered in blood. Some of the bird-laguz seem to have been wearing grass skirts, but you don’t think they would be too comfortable to wear.
Philosopher: (5) You explain your whole story to the ghost, from meeting with the shaman to animate a tiger corpse, to your journey to the abandoned city and finding Marisa, and finally to your travels to Ixal, getting captured by the guards and encountering the unicorn.

The ghost then speaks, "So you have met with a witch then? I thought they were only the stuff of legends. And to think they could be children as well. I’ve never heard of the places you mentioned, nor of those strange creatures. What are these orcs anyway? Or tigers, elephants, or crocodiles?” You then describe these things to him. “So these orcs are a different race from us humans, like kobolds, elves and shrumen? Seems wherever you came from, the unicorns are there as well. And yet, you say you have survived death? So you’re an immortal then? It seems I am good hands. If we can ally ourselves with these witches, we may find a way to rid ourselves of the unicorns.

"As you have told your tale, I shall tell you my own. I am Tyrone, son of Samuel. When I was a lad, I had served the king’s army. I enlisted while the northern uprising was taking place, but by the time I began to head to the front, we had already lost the war to the rebels. Think it was around that time the ‘bolds started to extend south into the other kingdoms as well. After that, I spent most of my life stationed in the southern country, keeping watch for any troublemakers. Eventually, I settled down in Balan, just outside the Gan forest. It was mostly peaceful life, though the forest was said to be inhabited by unicorns.

"Then one day, everyone’s burning the local priestess’s house. I learned later that a unicorn had possessed her and made her kill herself. The guard captain begins organizing an escort to deliver a message to the king. He says he’s going to start evacuating everyone from the village whenever the eventual unicorn attack comes. I, of course, volunteered for the escort business, as I’ve fought bandits before.

"Most of us on the trip were untrained locals, but we had a few strange characters with us. One of them looked like one of those mercenary types. Had a sword that looked more like a giant slab of iron than any sort of blade I’ve ever seen. Guy looked like he had seen hell. Think his name was Sturm or something. He’d been wandered into Balan only a few days before, but he volunteered to go on the escort. The other one seemed to be some sort of scribe woman, a bit of a perky one at that. I don’t quite remember her name, but she struck me as a bit foreign. Aside from traders, not many people travel to Balan. She mentioned she had just escaped from a unicorn attack, though she didn’t say which town she was from.

"Come nighttime, we decided to make camp on a hill. Just as we were about to rest, a whole battalion of shades surrounds us. I couldn’t understand what they were shouting, but it wasn’t too hard to tell they were calling for our blood. Turns out the scribe woman could understand their language, ‘cause her voice just suddenly changed to sound like one of them. It was like she didn’t even realize she had just started speaking their language, like it just came natural. I’m not sure those shades even have a written language. I don’t know what went on between her and those shades, but they got fired up once again and began their attack. Then, the merc simply cleaved one of the wagons in two, as well as a few of those shades, and we made our escape. We made camp in those woods, and I just simply figured we needed to get ourselves some supplies. I probably shouldn’t have asked, as Keran was only a day away, and we might have been able to make it by foot. The merc decided to try to get our supplies back. Even with their numbers, I figured he might stand a chance against them.

"An hour or two later passed by, and they found us and came at us like savages. That moment, I knew that I had just sent the mercenary out to die. I tried my best to defend the others from them, but I couldn’t do anything. We were expecting bandits, not an organized assault force! They just slaughtered everyone. And then I saw that face. She had an implement like one of our mages, but she had some sort of exotic garment on. In my last moments, I just saw that cursed face, like she had been fucking entertained by all of this. And she was looking only at me. Just as I felt the edge of one of their sabers, I just saw it. That was the face of a unicorn. I don’t know how to explain it, but that revelation just flashed before my eyes. Perhaps I’ve gone on for too much, but this was my fate. Shall we get moving?"

In the meantime, you open your summoning book to look for anything of interest. There seems to be quite a few blank pages. For the pages you find, there seems to be a list of basic animals, but for some reason, you can’t seem to find an entry for a basic horse. You find a few different entries on summoning forth humans, kobolds, orcs, shrumen, shades, laguz, elves, goblins, trolls, and dwarves, along with ways to outfit them with different equipment. You see a few entries for summoning basic elementals and constructs. Strangely enough, you can’t find an entry for summoning demons. On the back end of the book, you see a glowing, octarine entry in the corner displaying "1/2." Underneath that, you read in fine print, "To increase your summoning limit, you must build up your magical aptitude through field experience or acquire magical artifacts."

Tabbune: (2,3) You try using a healing spell on your arm to repair the decay, but your spell doesn’t seem to have an effect on the consuming greyness. More and more of your arm continues disintegrating before your eyes. You then transform back into your nymph form. While you seem to have freed yourself from the binds from earlier, your arm is still becoming infected by the strange condition. At this point, the curse seems to have spread midway up your upper right arm. Any further, and the condition will spread to the rest of your body.
