Story Mode party is supremely dependent on your crazy Fafnir power for DPS.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!Chloe can also eventually deal good damage with Ailing Slash. It's really a waste to use her as a healer.
luckily both bertrand and arianna are capable of healing (and im a huge fan of the princess class's passive heals) so its always possible to take chloe off healing duty if i need to (which i did because the status effects and debuffs were the real thing keeping everyone alive against the raptor.)
chloe seems like a utility character. always needed for something; capable of a little bit of everything.
okay so a lot of questions
- How good is Etrian Mystery Dungeon? I like the style of game and am interested in the EO mechanics mixed in there.
- Started Untold Stories 1, and I'm liking it. Kind of a bummer that I can't form my own party though, since that was one of my favorite parts of EO IV. But I want to experience the story, so
- Is Untold Stories 2 the same way, with a set party for story mode and an open party for classic? I quickly peeked in there and saw that there were a ton of classes too, and will they all be useable in story mode? Are all of them good? Is 2's story any good?
1. I dislike EOMD immensely, but I've since realized I dislike roguelikes. There's a lot to like if you enjoy the genre, otherwise I recommend you pass.
2. Around level 20 or 30 you can reassign the story characters' classes. They'll keep their initial stat line (Arthur will always have the stats of an alchemist, making him a VERY BAD Protector) but you can still play with the other classes.
3. Yep, same. Like EOU 1 you can change the story character's classes so don't pass on story mode for that reason. (Passing on it because it's not very good is entirely acceptable)
Story mode in 2 is inoffensive at worst. I'd hesitate to call it "great" but it's more than serviceable. 1's story mode is actively bad.
i suppose i'll find out for myself the quality of both stories; i don't want to pass judgement on stuff i haven't even played yet.
oh, does untold stories 2 have any story-exclusive classes like 1? and why are there so many classes in 2? is it simply because of the dlc?
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaeI like roguelikes and I think EMD is bad.
Personally, I suck at roguelikes. I have no opinion on EOMD, but at least it has some awesome arrangements of previous boss themes! (Though nothing beats the Etrian Odyssey 5 arrangement of The End of the Raging Waves.)
I personally find the Untold story modes just fine. I can see why some people don't like them, but eh. Besides, it's optional, so you can just hop on to classic mode. I personally like classic mode more, since it's fun to experiment with the parties you make.
Also, when the heck is Etiran Odyssey 5 getting localized? ...Don't tell me it's not...
"YOU SHALL FEEL THE FLOWER'S WRATH"Pretty sure that Fafnir is Story Exclusive until you complete Story Mode. You can get his skills as Grimoire Stones in Classic, though.
i think i'm still gonna try etrian mystery dungeon at the very least- i rather like roguelikes and using etrian odyssey's class system appeals to me
any particular reasons why it's bad?
as for untold stories 1 and 2, i'm prroobbabblly going to play through the stories unless anyone seriously recommends otherwise. i suppose i could just look up the story bits if i really want to know, but where's the fun (and the story exclusive classes) in that?
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-Maeuntold 1's story was bland and kind of cookie cutter, with a team setup that is really kinda boring.
untold 2's story is more interesting, the characters are also more interesting, and the party makeup is a little less standard. 2's an all around improvement to 1.
mystery dungeon...i didnt play much, but i dont think theres all too much wrong with it, besides that there is a lot going on compared to a normal mystery dungeon game. i think there were still tutorials being thrown at me by the time i started focusng on another game.
Like I said, I only really dislike 1's story. The original game had a couple of curveballs that EOU 1 handles poorly. The two new classes are cool but I would seriously debate the merits of playing Classic if this is your first time playing EO 1.
EOMD... I dunno, my problem is that the late-game grind that can sometimes come into effect in EO games seems to come around the third dungeon. The NP Cs seem flatter than usual and the process of actually going through the dungeons isn't as fun as I'd hoped. Class selection's pretty okay, maybe you'd find the game different than I did.
Personally, I feel that Untold improved the original story. Stuff like "This town will fall to ruin because you've solved all the mysteries" didn't make much sense to me, since I felt that finding all the mysteries would just draw more people in now that they're aware of the sort of goodies and treasures they can find, as well as what sort of dangers exist and how to deal with said dangers.
As for the "Sector 5 Twist," I don't think that twist was meant to be a big one for Story Mode since that particular twist in the original game has pretty much become the "Aerith Dies" of the whole series; I haven't played Classic Mode in Untold yet, but I assume it's a bigger twist there since I hear Gladsheim isn't available in Classic Mode.

The big twist of the original is that there was a story at all. So the Untold remake adding BAD foreshadowing is an insult. Gladsheim was neat at times and I actually dig the Highlander class so I'm not mad that I played Story Mode but gaddamn what a missed opportunity.
EDIT: But oh yeah the 100% completion thing in the original was dumb as hell, no argument here.

I think it's because Story Mode makes the assumption that you already know about big plot twist from the original game, so it doesn't make too big a deal out of it; that's how I treated Story Mode when I played, so it wasn't really "bad foreshadowing" for me and just "this is something you probably already know." I mean, the moment you see the pod that Frederica is in, I would assume most people would either think it's:
- Magitech
- Something from the past, since it's basically a cryo pod
For me, the big thing in Story Mode was the Gungnir in Gladsheim, and what it could do if allowed to be put to use. Though again, that's just my experience with the story. As you can probably tell, I didn't really have any problems with Story Mode.
Classic Mode is just the original EO with EOU's new implementations and a new mini-boss, yeah. So that twist is indeed bigger there.
so should i just play classic mode for EOU 1 and worry about story mode for some time in the future? i don't know what any of yall are talking about so the twist will still be rather twisty (even if i don't get to use gunner or highlander)
"There's not a girl alive who wouldn't be happy being called cute." ~Tamamo-no-MaePlay Story Mode first. Not only does it unlock the Highlander and Gunner characters for Classic Mode, it's also the only way to get a certain weapon, the Ameno-Habakiri, since one of the bosses there only drops its "regular" drop in Story Mode.
Story can carry things over to Classic, but not vice-versa. Play Story first.
It's an efficient way to get the bonus content. So yeah, go for Story first.

Your preferences are not everyone else's preferences.Nice! Been waiting for this to be localized!
choirs of singing angels
haha, no.
i was introduced to the black one, took one look at the room and ran away
then fought an foe outside the room to test if i was even on the level to deal with the blue ones.
the answer is yes but mostly god no. at least chloe and flavio kept it from attacking most turns but goddamn did it take forever.
