Oh hell yes. This looks amazing. A fully-free flying fight, without sacrificing melee.

Now, how did Reimu do Fantasy Seal at the end there? No meters changed... Is it just an inherent special move?

Red health is the super meter

Oh, now I see.

...Seems that, in the bit right before she used Fantasy Seal, her red "health" was steadily decreasing, unlike in the other clips. I wonder if you need to declare the spell first, and that causes your red "health" to start dropping while you're in a state where you can use the attack.

It's not necessarily free-flying. It seems to have a "neutral" height that you jump up and down from.

The flight style looks cool, but I think it'd look even cooler if it was showcased on a stage that was higher up in the sky. Having the characters hover about 5-10 feet above the ground looks kinda weird to me. I'm sure this game will have more "in the sky" levels (or rather, levels where the ground is far away, such as while falling down the well in SA) so I guess I shouldn't be too bothered.

And I guess I shouldn't be that nitpicky, since I'm not terribly interested in the Touhou fighters anyways.

Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft instead

"You can probably see the world in an unusual manner."

After what must be one of the luckiest runs ever (5 deathbombs and reaching both Orin and Utsuho with zero lives) I now have an SA Lunatic clear. Despite its reputation, I think it took less effort than any of my other Lunatic clears (and oddly fewer tries than SA Hard with some of the shot types).

I suppose next is the Extra stage, which I skipped in favor of Utsuho and the whole ☢☢☢CAUTION☢☢☢.

I can't post external links, however, I will say that a patch was released that allows for saving practice mode replays in EoSD.

[up] I haven't tried it so I don't know if it works or not, but that's one of the many tools listed on one of the wikis (under Practice Mode Replay Patch).

It works. Today was just the first I'd heard of it. Though looking at the edit history, it's only been a couple months it seems.

Two completely unrelated things.

First, someone made a thread at the Maidens of the Kaleidoscope forum with replays of perfect Lunatic runs. All the main games have a few, except for EoSD. One guy, 水月, has a perfect run of all of them.

Second, I cleared SA Extra with every shot type and am on UFO now. Both Easy (no bombs) and Normal (no special conditions) 1cc's on the first try.

Graphics:
I think UFO ties with PCB for prettiest looking Touhou game I've played, even with some things like Byakuren's left arm looking dislocated. Nazrin and Kogasa are cute, and I like the new shimmering effect on some of the lasers. Byakuren easily wins prettiest boss fight in the series, and is probably my second favorite boss in the series, behind Utsuho.

Gameplay:
I'm not sure how it's possible to have a UFO route for the entire game unless you can play like the high-score players. Practice will make getting them easier, but they drift about completely randomly and missing one is all it takes a ruin a route. Difficulty-wise, Easy and Normal feel harder than MoF but easier than SA. I know Lunatic UFO is supposed to be the hardest of the main games. There's a lot of unique bullet types that I don't think are used anywhere else: Nazrin's crystals, Kogasa's umbrellas, Murasa's anchors, and Unzan's fists, which I somehow forgot about until "The Traditional Old Man and the Stylish Girl" started playing.

Music:
The music can be kind of quirky and silly (so are some of the sound effects) but I think I like it. I think the fourth and fifth stages have the best music in the game.

Other:
It looks like the replay desync bug is still present, this time if you start a replay on stage 2. In MoF you could only use left Ctrl to fast forward during replays. I assumed when both Ctrl keys worked in SA that it would stay that way for the rest of the series, but apparently it's back to just the left one now.

The drifting of UF Os is not random (related to previous UF Os, I think), and can be manipulated, though my skill is far from being able to do that.

Bumping with some questions about Touhoumon: Merry's Version.

1) Is there more than one Exp. Share and/or an Exp. All hacked in?

2) Is there any FAQ that lists all the Items, as is?

...It's weird having so many websites and no way to properly display now, lol.

[up]Merry version is basically the same as Red Fire, all the items should be where the Red Fire items are. I sugest to check the poke wiki for any item you desire.

Damn. So there is no Exp. All. I know where it is, just wanted to know how many changes there were.

The FAQ's aren't very good beyond some very basic information. Thanks.

Double Spoiler all clear, as both Aya and Hatate.

That was a lot more fun than the main games. Does anyone know of any other games like this?

As for the game itself, despite being fun it still feels like ZUN considered it a less important side game to the main series, with the various bugs and lack of balance against Hatate's camera. 7-6, 11-1, and 11-7 become completely trivial because Hatate can take a picture every wave before it becomes dangerous. Most other scenes, except the ones where the boss keeps you at a distance, become easier with Hatate.

The hardest scenes, I thought, were 9-2 followed by 10-8 as Aya and 10-4 as Hatate. The most fun scenes were 7-1 and 11-6, since I've always liked the fast, reflex-y parts of the games best.

Shoot The Bullet is Double Spoiler's predecessor.

I've heard people say that Shoot the Bullet is harder than Double Spoiler, though.

But yeah. If you want a game like Double Spoiler, then really the most logical choice is Shoot the Bullet.

I guess I should have said I already cleared Shoot the Bullet (and did all of IN's Spell Card practice). TD is supposed to have something similar to IN, so I guess I'll look for some fan games, then go through TD when I get to it.

TD has essentially the same spell practice as IN, except instead of Last Words there are Overdrive versions of one spellcard per character.

No it fucking isn't. That takes insane luck to pull off, since the pattern's angle is randomized

If you're into the 'unusual mechanics' angle I suppose there's always Fairy Wars.
