I beat Suwako as my first Extra Clear. It didn't take me very long. (Only about a week or so.) It took me three months by comparison to beat Flandre.
The PC 98 era however is by far the easiest. (Except for SOEW, that one's a tad hard.) I beat Mugetsu on my first try and Gengetsu not long thereafter. I beat Ex-Alice on my literally third attempt at the stage.
Really? I heard Ex-Alice was one of the hardest.
Where? I've always heard her to be the easiest, and my own experiences back this up
Either on the other thread, or on an LP on the RPG.net forums. I may just be misremembering, though.
I think Suwako was fairly difficult, mainly because her hardest spells are all right at the end, there.
I've managed her, Mokou, and Ran. Dunno which one's hardest, but the Final Bomb system in IN doesn't help the fight with Mokou one bit.
I have a message from another time...I actually have a question about IN's Extra Stage. The death fairy at the end has been kind of schizophrenic lately on what it drops. Sometimes, it's a much needed Extend, but sometimes it's only a Bomb. Any idea on why this is?
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonMaybe not bombing or dying gets you an extra life? I dunno.
Song of the SirensBombing is something I have to do to get through it, maybe dying affects it.
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonIf you die you get a Bomb. If you die and bomb you get I think nothing. If you do not die (Bomb or not) you get an Extend.
Also how long you fight it affects what can come. Take too long and even if you don't die you don't get the Extend.

I tested it.
- Bomb, no death: Bomb
- Bomb, death: Bomb
Odd. Because I've gotten the Extend (in the dozens of tries to beat Mokou before I did) on a deathbomb from Reimukari. Quite consistently at that.
Maybe it's the shot type. I'm testing with Scarlet Team.
Maybe it's which bomb? I've been using Remi's because it seems to do more damage, so I'll try Sakuya's.
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonI think that Sakua's bomb deals more damage, on average, to single targets, while Nightless Castle is better for clearing a room.
Sort of a thing with the human characters' bombs, actually.
I have a message from another time...Sakuya:
- Bomb: 768 damage
- Last Spell: 1500
Remilia:
- Bomb
- 1 stream: 300-400
- Right on top: 700-900
- Deathbomb
- 1 stream: 400-500
- Right on top: 1000-1200
Also does the most damage against nonspells of anyone.
And looking through that just reminded me how much it sucks trying to unlock Blazing Star. Reimu Solo is so godawful.

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonDon't you mean Marisa? Although you're right, they both suck. I never even managed to 1cc normal with either of them.
Unlocking "Blazing Star" requires beating Hard with Reimu-solo. Which sucks
Marisa-solo is used for unlocking "Fantasy Nature", by clearing all normal spellcards (which also sucks, but not because Marisa-solo does)
Marisa-solo is one of the few usable solo characters. Good bomb, good shot
Bomb, no death: Bomb Bomb, death: Bomb
Perhaps it's the amount of bombs and lives you have left? Like, maybe it drops a bomb if you have none left and a life if you've got a full stock of bombs?
Probably.
And I do mean Remilia. Bombs tend to do less against non spells than you'd think. However, since RTNC and Scarlet Devil attack from four directions, that reduction is alleviated somewhat
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonBut don't all bombs destroy most enemies anyway? Personally, I feel the best part about those two bombs is how much mobility they allow.
Well I made it to Philosophy of a Hated Person for the second time ever and Subterranean Rose for the first.
Died on my last life almost immediately.
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonI've been trying to finish Eo SD's extra stage for about six months now, on and off. And today, I finally beat it, so I would just like to say: YEEEEEES!!!!!
Whoo!
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonOh, you want a replay, do you? I'll give you your replay.
As soon as I figure out how to upload it...
Edit: Well, that was easy. Here it is.

By far, mostly because of the bomb system.
