YOU SAYIN I LIKE DUDES?!
#101: Mar 1st 2010 at 7:53:35 AM

I've, at this point, sunk over 500 hours of playtime into TWEWY, have gotten every pin, every piece of clothing, gotten all the shopkeepers to 100%, got every drop from every enemy on every difficulty level, beat the secret boss on every difficulty level (got all of his pins too), got my drop rate by eating cordyceps to 101, and I'm still trying to perfect all of my partners stats to 100.

This will either seem very impressive, or absolutely mortifying.

Never completed all of the items and pins, but I do have all the boss drops listed and all of the bosses beaten at level 1.

Damn...I still haven't beaten that damn elephant noise needed for reports...needless to say I'm not to the top of Pork City yet, so I'm even thinking about Mr. H at the moment...any tips?

Fight him on easy, at max level. Unless you've been grinding like crazy, you don't have a chance at getting his drops.

For the elephant? No...I need to beat him at hard...it's the one in Beat's chapters that is a requirement for getting the secret reports. My partner gets owned, and I don't have time to heal before it gets interrupted. It even interrupts my splish splash barrier.

Ah, I was referring to the Bonus Boss. Though if you're having problems with the elephant you're not ready for the Bonus Boss.

Use regular healing instead of barriers. Stay away from it with Neku and attack with lightning rook. Your partner can block the shockwaves, but you'll need good timing.

So I'm grinding Shutdown PP so that I can get the Blue Blood Burns Blue pin. I heard that the Flame Blast psych is really good, so...

I know that the Drake pin is a better Flame Blast, but since I don't have the quest items to buy Ultimate difficulty yet, I'll make do with what I have.

Question: is the challenge given by Main Game Joshua in Another Day just a truncated Boss Rush? Or is there more to it?

Oh, and I added a Trivia page to the page, because I felt like putting the Theme Naming of the brands somewhere. What do you all think?

It's not particularly truncated and you have to do it on hard or above, but, yeah, just a Boss Rush (though the chain mechanics make it pretty damn hard).

Blue Blood Burns Blue isn't so much impressive for its damage output as the fact that you can have two of them, and if you do you can spam it more or less endlessly (especially if you throw Drake in on top of it—though Drake's either a Reaper or Angel class pin, and there are better options there either way). It's most effective against enemies who are stunned by it, which accounts for fewer and fewer of them the later in the game you get.

Eeeeheeheehee! I have Drake! And it rocks! ...sometimes, but whatever, it's a pillar of blue flames!

It's Angel-class, by the way.

I also found out something I really like about the Vulcan Uppercut and Grave Marker psychs. They will always unbalance a nonstationary, non-screen-filling enemy. Even if it's a boss. Even if it's Kitaniji.

They're why I was able to farm Dark Matter off Reaper Beat so effortlessly.

I just spam Reaper Beat with Yoshimitsu, Lightning Arrester (whatever the pin was named), Wolf and Jesus Beams. Once you learn to really spam Yoshimitsu, it's about as good a disrupter Psych as there is.

...What.

So I just fought Ovis Cantus on Ultimate, Level 1, on a huge chain... and he dropped Ovis.

Not Stalwart As The Mount, Ovis. His Hard mode prize, as opposed to his Ultimate mode prize.

What.

I always had an easier time with Taboo Minamimoto on hard than Reaper Beat on Ultimate.

Right, if you don't get the drop of your current difficulty level it then checks to see if you got the drop on the next lowest, until you get one or it runs out of levels. It's perfectly possible to get an easy drop on ultimate.

Oh. OK. I see. Great, and I chained everything I could see, too. Oh well, luck of the draw, it is a really rare drop.

You seriously do better with Taboo Minamimoto than Reaper Beat? At least Reaper Beat doesn't have those bullcrap Taboo Defenses.

Oh, and by the way, currently, my Shiki gains 5 Fusion stars as soon as the battle starts. Hee-hee.

If you have decent puck passing skills, Taboo Minamimoto ain't so bad. He is significantly less dangerous than Reaper Beat, he just takes longer to beat. Which is part of why I prefer farming from Reaper Beat. Quicker fights means quicker farming.

Yeah, I can see that.

And yeah, Reaper Beat has to be faster to kill. Plus, since his Noise Symbol is on Week 1, Day 4, all the Noise you chain after him are weaklings that go down extremely quickly.

Edit: and, since you've got a huge multiplier going, all those weakling Noise drop pins for you to sell, most of them drop big Yen pins on Ultimate.

Like I said, I keep the light puck going, so taboo doesn't really mean much to me. Reaper Beat, on the other hand, I have trouble actually hitting, making that fight a major pain and not any faster that Taboo Minamimoto. Also I started farming Taboo Minamimoto before I got Ultimate unlocked, so I was used to him.

Man, TWEWY needs an online multiplayer match mode. Seeing that there are so many different ways of fighting, I'd be interested to see head-to-head fights.

Maybe for TWEWY 2.

I never managed to 100% it, because I never found a way to get any of that third kind of XP, where you have to connect to another DS.

That would be freaking awesome.

... someone would probably have to ban the Darklit Planets set, though. Way too powerful.

But yeah! It'd be really cool to fight another Neku. Have one guy desperately try to distance himself and snipe with his Lighting Rook while the other one is trying to First Gear over to him and feed him his own face with Kusanagi. Or see one guy try to fill the screen with death using LIVE! and Flower of Flame, while the other guy rides out his attacks with Splish Splash barrier until he's done attacking.

It would be pretty awesome.

Edit: You can fool the game into thinking you've got a guest (another DS who's communicating, not one with TWEWY) if you have a Wii. Go to the Nintendo Channel, make the Wii start transmitting a DS demo, and then open the Mingle menu in TWEWY. It'll register the Wii as one guest, and then you can quit out of Mingle, reap the MPP, and then reopen the Mingle Menu. Rinse and repeat.

Do you have a wii? You can get Mingle XP by turning on the Nintendo Channel and telling it to broadcast out a demo to your DS. It's a bit of a bother, but you can farm Mingle XP by having it recognize the Wii, close out mingle mode, then launch Mingle Mode again until you're satisfied.

Plus there's the "Alien" encounters that happen randomly every couple of hours if you leave it on mingle mode.

EDIT: Ninja'd. Also, if you have access to a second DS but no TWEWY, Picto Chat will give you the same sort of encounter as the Wii.

I knew about the Wii thing, but didn't have one or a second DS. I had one of those "alien" encounters and wondered what it was. The guide I had didn't say a thing about those. I would take it out in mingle mode all the time, but only ever saw one. Ah, if I'd known I could just leave it in Mingle mode plugged into the wall...

The game isn't balanced for multiplayer at all. Way too many instant hit pins, and the partner mechanic would be horrible (remember fighting Shiki?).
