But, at this point, we don't know what Thea's dad is thinking or how much he tried to save the marriage, so this kind of comes off as very callous. Imagine if someone's (abusive) mother died, they told a friend that their mother slipped away, and the friend responded with cheers and choruses of "Ding Dong The Witch is Dead". Sure, they may have been a miserable human being, but they're still your mother. Similarly, many divorcees sincerely loved their spouse and are sad about the parting even if it was necessary, which means party hats are less than appropriate.

In this case, however, it looks like the "WOO!" was justified.

It was when Hazel yelled "I thought you were a GOOD mom!"

Most people pointed out that she clearly didn't mean it like that, and that it wasn't out of character for her to overreact like that. The same arguers also point out that Carol was lying to Hazel, so she's not exactly free of blame here. And I agree.

A lot of people are hoping this will result in character development for Hazel. One commenter made a drinking game where we drink every time someone says that about Hazel, though. XD

So, last strips of the Dinosaur World strips, I'm assuming the implication is that the proprietor really was visited by aliens (complete with saucer burn scar in the background) that are likely actually McPedro's people?

Fun fact: Up to this point, Hazel's dad has been mentioned only three times.

Probably not much. I think it's been establishing in the strip that Hazel's father was barely ever home, and one day he just up and left, taking a good amount of the money with him. Jamie is cautioning Hazel that she seems to be taking the same route of taking advantage of someone with feelings for her for the sake of convenience and Hazel is trying to justify it by saying that it's not nearly as bad because there's no child and they're not getting married. Until the reveal of Goopy Kitty keeling over in the next strip, I was expecting Hazel to have a talk with her mother and find out that the situation with her father was Not So Different, that it started out as more platonic and/or casual, but then Hazel came along the the father just walked away in much the same way that Hazel tends to try to casually walk away from hassle and trouble.

Ok, that clears some things up. One day I need to sit down and binge this comic.

Since this topic seems to be coming back to life a bit, Goopy Kitty is alright and apparently trying to impress his parents with a job.

I dunno, if you look at him upside down he looks irritated...I think he may be trying to point out a job for Hazel.

That's another possibility.

Me. Can't stand the art.

I'm not overly fond of the art, either—mostly the shading—but it's good stuff. I enjoy it.

I read it, but's kind of borderline. I don't mind characters being arseholes, but the vague sense that we're supposed to admire and revere them for being arseholes gets on my nerves sometimes.

Character growth on Hazel's part. I am going to miss this strip.

.....could someone explain the goldfish to me? I think I know what's going on, but I kinda want someone else to say it.

I know that Hazel had earlier had a nightmare about the fish dying due to neglect from her, which led to her referencing her father and his neglect. I think it's symbolic of her learning to let go of the past, to acknowledge that her father is not a great person by any means, but he no longer overshadows her life.

She's done.

There were times when I was getting a little bored with GWS but I stuck through and it's ended on a good note. I'll be looking forward to the colored do-over.
