Hey TV Tropes, are there any other people who wrote for Cracked here? I contributed to a few articles for a few times and would like to pitch again. But cannot access the forums. I was not banned and as far as I know nothing changed about my account as I can log in on the website, just not the forums. I tried to send this too the Cracked staff but for some reason the submit button isn't working for me.

I think the website is pretty close to death, to be honest.

I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.

[up]ok

[up][up]Anyway, wait, there are people who wrote for Cracked here? Where'd you hear that?

[up][up]I'm not so sure of that. Simply because it seems to be making some money.

[up]Not staff, just usually freelancers in their open workshop. I've done it a couple times, made a few hundred after a year or so. Not enough for a job yet or anything but a fun hobby that occasionally paid. I think even Cracked's trope page said something to the effect of "some of our readers have contributed articles to the site".

I pitched a few articles but they didn't go anywhere. Did manage to win money from a few photoplasties.

In a strange change, David Wong is now being credited as his real name. OK, that's probably been the case for a while, but I finally gave up on Cracked some time ago.

[up][up][up][up] This thread thought Cracked had died three years ago, and indeed thought it dying long before that. Somehow it never actually dies. Like Yahoo.

Okay, wow.

So by some links in this site, I revisited Cracked.com just now and...they actually got rid of the comments section.

...I'm not even mad, that's just sad.

Cracked used to have the best comment section on the Internet.

Then they tried to attach voting to a subscription, and something changed. For whatever reason, right-wing assholes were suddenly more prominent. The lack of people upvoting good comments and downvoting bad ones was a major factor, but I don't think it was the only one. This is because when they ended the subscription thing and let everybody vote again, the comment section didn't improve. The right-wing asshats were still there, and still prominent.

Whatever happened, the comment section just wasn't the same.

The comments section was always such a great way to top off an article in Cracked's heyday.

I used to be a regular commentator too back in the day. Ah, memories.

On the other hand, the growing toxicity I could notice even then is a large part of why I generally think comments sections are garbage.

[up][up] I believe he was thatindianguy. Oh also, nevermind then.

I just noticed this. It's making me very sad that the comments are gone. Apparently they're still there you just have to log in. At least that's what rudimentary research is telling me. Don't have an account so don't know if it's true.

You can only write so much in your forum signature. It's not fair that I want to write a piece of writing yet it will cut me off in the mid

[up]x5 Hell yeah, my dude. The comments section made even mediocre articles passable, and greatly elevated already funny articles. The comments sections from Evan Symon's food articles were great, if I recall.

I mean, your account does hint that you don't like jelly, since you like dodging it.

Oh yeah, the comments on Evan's food articles were always great. But my favorite Cracked comment will always be theresabug's comment on the Klu Klux Klan's stupid rank names from the "5 Powerful Organizations That Started For Stupid Reasons" article.

I occasionally remember "This is bullshit, Clairvoyant Goblin." and feel myself being a millisecond away from a giggle fit.

I also remember ShortUsername01, Carny Langsford, and Ericthebearjew. Also noobpwnage, who was a bad right-wing troll. By which I mean he was bad at trolling. Wylde sometimes seemed trolly, but he also made the occasional decent observation or funny joke.

I also liked the running gag where we'd discuss (usually imaginary) porn as if we were watching it for the plot.

[up]Found it!

"The Negro Scourge!"

"What?! Again?! Every time I search anything it's ALWAYS the negro scourge!"

"It's not ALWAYS the negro scourge."

"Almost always. Search a cave, negro scourge. Open a treasure chest, negro scourge. Remember that time I found a bottle? What was in it?"

"It's not-"

"What was in the bottle?"

"...the ne-"

"THE NEGRO SCOURGE! How the hell is he even supposed to FIT in a bottle?! Just once I want to find an anti-bellum belle, or some yanky gold. This is bullshit Cletus!"

"Hey! You will use my Klan name at this table!"

"This is bullshit, Clairvoyant Goblin."

Checking up on this thread I realised it had been seven months since any new posts were added, and years since I'd actually visited the site itself.

Today I went to check it out and, it's okay I guess. The smug political preaching that came to define the output in 2014-15 has seemingly vanished and there are a few articles of interest mixed in with the pictofact listicles.

I suppose that, more than anything else, it just feels bland now - likely exacerbated by the lack of comments and the plain white background. There's not really much of a soul to it now, and if I was coming across it for the first time today I doubt I'd even remember it.
