My general rule of thumb is that if I sunk more money into a F 2 P game than I would have buying a quality indie game, it's time to stop.
Disgusted, but not surprisedI guess part of it is about being tech savvy, I’d never give anyone access to a devise with my debit card info stored on it, but if you don’t realise that such a devise is the same as giving your child your card than the results can easily surprise you.
My mum never just handed me her credit card growing up, if I was using to for something I was coming strait back and putting it in her purse.
Also I was taught basic financial responsability from a younge age, which helps.

The Protomen enhanced my life. This is less of being tech savvy but more of having a common sense.
It's baffling how so many parents don't even realize this.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. If I were a parent, I'd never give my kid access to my credit card or any of my devices that have credit card info on them (at least not out of my eyesight).
Instead, if they wanted to open a Steam account or something, I'd set up a bank account for them, give them some money to start off with, and give them their own debit card. Might as well teach them fiscal responsibility early. Of course, I'd also periodically check their Steam library to ensure that they haven't installed any age-inappropriate games and/or shitty asset flip games. No kid of mine is going to waste money on anything but quality games, dammit.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI didn't start buying games until flipping college. Why in the hell are these parents leaving their card information right there for the kids to abuse?
I know it says to not judge the parents for blatant negligence but leaving the information right there for someone else using your account does not look good in anyway. It's why I only ever shared my Steam account with someone I absolutely trusted.
Because a lot of these parents probably aren't extremely up to date on cutting edge technology and games, and these games are built in such a way to try and exploit this very issue?
The fact that kids can accidentally rack up massive fees is an intended feature, not a bug.
Read my stories!I have little siblings. My parents never leave credit card information on any of their devices due to stuff like this.
Although I can agree that its blatantly obvious that the corporate has been exploiting this shit since it popped up. Lootboxes, skins, and other addictive features.
@lalalei2001
Neither do I. Looks like stealth complaining to me.
As the Cracked article notes, in the past, there used to be human barriers such as the cashier or the phone operator that helped prevent kids from pulling these stunts. The downside of online commerce is also its upside: it's automated and easy. There are no human barriers.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI tend to use gift cards out of a general sense of paranoia. If my bank details aren't linked to any of my accounts, no-one can gain access to them through those accounts - so I buy the credit on physical cards, giving me the monetary value without the temptation to impulse-buy using my bank details.
That's probably the best way to go for parents - if you're going to give your kids money to spend online, get it in gift card form. You give your kids an exact limit on what they can spend, so your balance stays safe and your kids are operating within a definite, unexploitable boundary.

4 World-Famous Toys (That Have Creepy Dark Origins)
- View-masters were invented by a Nazi.
- Sea-Monkeys were sold by a friend of the KKK who used the proceeds of the sales to help them buy firearms.
- Rock'em-Sock'em Robots were invented by a miserable paranoid sexual predator.
- Barbie's Designer Was A Coke-Addled Sex Fiend — that is actually the header for that one. I couldn't think of a better description.
Yeah in the end when I was a young child we had to go out and by my games, PC world or somwhere was where we went. We did order some games though a magazine I suspect, but thouse wern’t paid for, I actully tested some PC games as a kid and got a free copy once the game was done.
That’s probably why I don’t like early access, I remember getting the game for free if I agreed to play it in a buggy state and report back issues.
Lego is an awesome company.

Never liked facebook. Always been a very private person
I was nearly one of the first people in Ireland to join Facebook.
Every time it's in the news, I'm glad I never got around to it.
Ukrainian Red CrossI only post around every other day, either on my dog or food.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.I still have an account I opened long ago, but I never really did anything with it. I didn't even post my photo on it or anything.
Disgusted, but not surprisedFacebook always made me uncomfortable as I never wanted my personal details everywhere.
Honestly, I see so much dumb shit being shared and so many outright backward comments being made, I don't even want to open that thing again.
It is either going to make me pissed off or I'll spend the time bemoaning about the stupidity of people who share things like.

Inter arma enim silent legesI’m glad I curate my Facebook so heavily, the only political stuff I get is hardcore socialists, anarcho-communists and a bunch of people from my old uni’s LGBT society.
Nobody right wing would last on my Facebook.
“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranI usually don't add a lot of people to my FB page, though the number of people I actually keep tabs with can be cut down to 6, but I do however like to see the line of thought of different people. So I tend to not filter anything I see in my timeline, outside of some FB groups who were advocating sexism and racism, but even the news and trivia pages I still have to figure out if it is a person or a goddamned bot making the comments.
Inter arma enim silent legesRandom rant.
Why can't these "pictofact" articles show the sources for their entries? It baffles me so much because in the contest proper people actually post their entries with source.

Admittedly, one thing that would have kept me from sending my family into a spiral of financial ruin would have been my fear of my parents' reaction. The silver lining of growing up in an emotionally abusive (and for a few years physically abusive) household!
