Even depictions of the actual sins don't quite carry the weight of universal badness; I remember Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist making an absolutely fantastic speech about how wonderful qualities like the desire for friendship, love, and family are forms of Greed.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.You're misunderstanding me. I'm not saying people hear the word sin and go' "SIN? THAT MEANS BURN IN HELL!" I'm staying it's got a negative connotation, just like words like "filthy" or "ugly." Even on your example, the word "sin" is being associated with "don't," which is a negative word since it's, y'know, the phrase "do not."
If the positive traits of greed are not immediately apparent but the negative ones are, then it still has a negative connotation. Fullmetal Alchemist made the Seven Deadly Sins the bad guys for a reason.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Well the series ain't exactly PRAISING the movies.
Read my stories! If "sin" = "criticism", then yeah, that's precisely the point of the videos. The series is called Cinema Sins, not Cinema Tropes or Cinema Awesomes or Cinema Stuff we Noticed.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Which is exactly the point I'm trying to freaking make. It's not an Affectionate Parody, it's criticism.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. And so what? Criticism can be humorous. It's certainly not malicious.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"You know it's weird. Sin is supposed to be a Christian concept but u see it in other cultural settings a lot. Like, when I saw Clash of the Titans, I was thrown off a bit when the guy who was sacrificing andromeda to the kraken said it was 'atoning for their sins'. Isn't that a little anachronistic ?
But I don't find criticism inherently funny, either. All I'm saying is, in my opinion, these videos are more interested in condemning the movies than being funny. Now, some people do find their criticism funny, and that's fine, but I personally don't. I just think they come across as too smug for my tastes.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Clash of the Titans never pretended to be accurate. The guy is supposed to be modeled after a doomsday preacher from the modern age.
You guys know we have a thread for Cinema Sins that could use more love. Why don't we take this discussion over there.

"What a century this week has been." - Seung Min KimSorry. This just came up because Cinema Sins videos turn up on Cracked's website sometimes. Anyways, I don't really think I have anything else to say about them.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Taking it to the other thread. Thanks for the reminder!
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Well, Greed had made a Heel–Face Turn of sorts by that point, so I think it might be a little more complicated than that.
Oh God! Natural light!I know that, but I was talking about what's immediately apparent. Heel Face Turns can't be immediately apparent or else they wouldn't be surprising/interesting.
"In a shocking turn of events, the dastardly Sunshine McHappiness turned out to be a good guy!"

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Quoth myself:
Because that's kind of what you're doing, Splash, If I'm not misunderstanding you. Or, more precisely, you seem to have misunderstood the series by thinking it disagrees with you. It's not that it's not criticism; the series is a satire of criticism.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."I absolutely did not get that "satire of criticism" idea at all from what I've seen of it. It looks to me like it's not supposed to be any deeper than "points out plot holes in a funny way." I think you're grasping at straws with that one.
And I'm not "taking the mentality seriously" so much as I'm finding it annoying and unfunny. Like, I don't care what their opinion of the movie is, they're not making me laugh either way.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Yes. Plot holes like scenes not containing a lap dance/ x character not being my girlfriend in this scene, characters who whine and complain a lot being good at Cinema Sins, or the fact that DC Comics exists.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Those are all attempts at humor mixed in with the plot holes, but I happen to not find them funny, and I really don't think it's part of some elaborate satire of criticism (unless you can get me, like, a quote from whoever writes the videos saying something like, "This series is intended as an elaborate satire of criticism"). I think the videos are just meant to point out plot holes while also cracking jokes.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Ahem. The other thread, please. And it's perfectly fine for you not to find them funny. Just don't misrepresent their intent.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So you're the authority on what their intent is and I'm not, I take it?
Anyways, to try and keep this on-topic, let's bring in Cracked to the conversation. Cracked, who have some kind of association with Cinema Sins, criticize modern movies all the time (I'm not positive, but I think there's a very teensy minor slight possible chance that the Cracked writers don't like The Dark Knight Rises, for instance). So when a Cinema Sins video appears on the Cracked homepage, what exactly am I expected to assume?

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Ah, the strawman. Keep that up and we'll shortly have one less poster in the thread.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Ohhhhh, so you were just giving a good-natured warning not to misrepresent their intent without claiming to make any assumptions about what the "true" intent is. Got it. I am so sorry for misunderstanding you, you saint.

I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon.Perhaps we ought to change the subject.
Oh God! Natural light!I thought we'd already dropped this. Someone brought it back up for reasons I cannot begin to fathom.
I've got fanfics for Frozen, Spectacular Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon. You don't have to respond to everything. If you really thought it was dropped, you would've let it stay dead. Also, maybe don't be so flippant and sarcastic towards the top mod.
Anyway, does anyone know how long it takes them to change a title? Do you think they always intend to change it? All of them are different now than they were this morning.
I don't know who you talk to, but sin has definitely lost a lot of the weight you assume it has. Nowadays it's usually used for do's and don'ts. "Top ten sins writers make" etc.
