Because Irene is a dragon summoning a giant rock to kill her daughter.
Mileena MadnessThere is some interesting comparison here. Gray knew his father who was taken from him & once they meet in the future as foes Silver still loved his son dearly.
Erza never knew her mom who abandoned her & Irene seems to show no lost love here, well at the moment. We have to wait and see if she still remains an unloving bitch.
How did Irene enchant an asteroid though?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I've kinda started being disillusioned with the use of Meteor Drop, my first encounter was with Naruto which was pretty cool because Kishimoto drew it with a low angle shot and made it feel massive and impeding doom like, then there was Bleach which was also cool because Kenpachi finally used his Shikai and after that was One Piece with Fujitora bringing a meteor down but he might have been holding back so its likely his attacks can get a lot bigger.
This now though. I;m yawning and I;m not sure whether its because I'm desensitised or because its Era.

In general it seems like having a villain use a meteor attack has become mandatory.
Weird thing I noticed with those examples is that no one of the main cast ever actually stopped the meteor, its a supporting member who is regarded as very much superior in strength with special abilities.
Naruto: A Kage stopped it, Onoki can make stones lighter. Bleach: Kenpachi's monstrous strength along with his shikai's power. One Piece: Dofflamingo who is regarded as one of the manga's strongest villains with strings that can cut through nearly anything & Law whose power literally defy reality & physics, though even then they barely survived that one.
This is the first time I see a main-cast member attempt meteor stoppage though Erza's method is very plain all things considered, at least Kenpachi had a big-ass supernatural axe to do it instead of a flimsy regular katana.
Oh right, I forgot about that.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I mean, you're also forgetting the meteorite spam Madara did using a massive scale Chibaku Tensei, right when he was about to awaken that Rinne-Sharingan thing; those were either shredded to bits with Sasuke's Perfect Susanoo, or destroyed en masse by Naruto's Bijuudama Rasenshuriken.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Pretty sure we're gonna have zoro slice a meteor in the future. Also Onoki had Gaara's help.
Well Gaara is a kage and a supporting character.
I have a feeling though that when Zoro slashes a meteor which is a high possibility since Fujitora is a swordsman meaning they'll eventually face off against each other, he won't be doing it with nearly broken arm with the rest of his body wrecked literally.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."True since when he does stuff it feels like he accomplishes it through effort not plot bullshit, also Mihawk is most likely also capable of doing it.

Well, there was his Asura technique against Kaku. It's a staple move now, but it definitely came out of nowhere at the time.
One Strip! One Strip!True, that one is confusing whether as to its an illusion or even real but I'm sure like always Oda will end up having an explanation given,
It helps that the Asura technique is visually pretty cool. Zorro gets like bigger & badder with every arc and usually ends his fight doing something new or a little different.
Erza uses the hakama armor too much. Shouldn't she naturally have some kind of meteor buster armor something? Something that can cause a big-enough blast or defense?
Whenever he does something awesome, Zorro always adds in some kind of badass boast. Very endearing really.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That and he's the king of trash talk.
I would like to see a fight between Kenpachi, Zoro, Erza and Sasuke Wonder who'd come out on top. Though guess with Zoro it'd be more fair to wait for when he becomes the world's greatest swordsman.
It helps that even when he's humble he's badass, just look at the thing with Kuma.

Erza: You can inflict pain on me Kuma, but the loss of my family would hurt more than any attack you can muster!
Mileena MadnessClearly one's words absolve all the BS.
Secret SignatureErza would be humble enough to take Kuma's offer right?
Cause I wouldn't needlessly fuck around with him, Kuma can be a real monster when he wants to be.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."One Punch Man also did a meteor. If I recall right Saitama just punched through it, but that cause even more pieces to devastate the city.
And several S Class heroes try and fail to stop it.
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.Just two actually;Genos and Bang. Saitama prevented the meteor from doing more damage than it would have if it was still intact, but people are assholes and blame him anyway.
A lazy millennial who's good at what he does.Which is weird, when apparently no one died when otherwise that definitely wouldn't have been the case.
There are at least two meteor drops in One Punch Man - Tatsumaki drops one on a kaiju
That was anime-only though.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!Wouldn't it be funny if the series ended on July 7th of this year?
...It would some impressive timing I'd admit.
One Strip! One Strip!
x 5 I could end up being wrong, but I would imagine Wendy would have just pointed out the smell she recognized. Honestly considering that body is an illusion I question how it has a scent, but I am probably just over complicating it by this point.
