Nomura: Kingdom Hearts III is poised to answer questions that have been brewing among fans for more than a decade, but it is still Sora’s story. Nomura views it as his journey, even though he doesn’t particularly relate to his own hero. “I actually don’t sympathize or empathize with Sora at all,” Nomura says. Instead, he relates to the game’s mysterious villains, Xehanort or likely Ansem, anyone who’s fallen prey to their dark natures. “I think I’m closer to those characters, so Sora is like my enemy,” he says. “How I always think of him is I would unleash my attacks on him, and then I draw him in a way that I think he will be able to make a comeback at me. In that sense, I really think that Sora is just like an opposite personality character to who I am.”

what the fuck, nomura [lol]

Nomura's been a Nort all along

[up][up]Sora turned into a Shadow, and Roxas, well Roxas has special circumstances.

Uh Lea in BBS didn’t strike me as a bad person, and Axel was Co M Axel until his heart started growing back (I think accelerated by proximity to Roxas/Ventus)

So a heartless is a heartless, and the nobody is kind of a product of its society.

We always knew Nomura was the real villain of Kingdom Hearts, so I'm not surprised by that statement.

When Sora was marked by the Recusant's sigil, it turned Sora into a portal into the Sleeping World for the other Xehanorts.

Many of the Darker Square Enix games as worlds would be better fit being found in the Realm of Darkness.

TBH, Nie R might have some potential. The first game is in a setting where Humanity is gone and their remnants are also fading. Might be relatively easy to fit into KH's cosmology if they wanted to (especially since we never competently saw the process of a world that fell to darkness). Automata might also carry some of that along with following the themes set in Prankster's Paradise, Toy Box and Xion's entire (non?)existence.

Still likely wouldn't happen, but the concept is interesting.

What about a Parasite Eve World? tongue

@Mad

Did the Ultimania specify if the Master Xehanort that shows up in KH3D is just his heart, or his entire being? Like Enlong said, since time travel is involved, the old coot could just be a projection of Terranort's disembodied hybrid heart, like Sora during CoM.

@Redmess

Heartless are creatures of darkness. With the exception of a few benign species like the White Mushroom and Sora's Heartless, they are all mindless and violent monsters that are driven by an instinct to devour hearts. So most people who are turned into Heartless lose their sense of morality along with their cognitive functions.

Lesser Nobodies are generally the same, except they are noted to be more intelligent than Heartless, and can understand and follow orders from superior Nobodies. Higher Nobodies, AKA the ones with great enough willpower to not only hold their souls and bodies together, but retain their human forms and memories as well, are largely the same as normal humans, but they (initially) lack the capacity to feel emotions due to being, err, literally heartless. So even good people, without emotions, can very easily become apathetic and amoral. (Roxas managed to avoid that for the most part because he formed strong bonds with Axel and Xion very soon after his formation, which allowed him to develop a heart of his own much sooner than the rest of Organisation XIII.)

Why would the sigil need to be a portal? Why couldn't they just follow them through the giant gate that appeared in the ocean?

[up]x3 Cuz Young Xehanort can only move forward in time and not backwards, so he needs to bring everyone to one point in the present day and can't force everyoen into the portal back on Destiny Islands back when it was destoryed..

Ok, Not sure if the convo died, but I thought I'd jump in.

I'm not bothered about the idea of the title of Princess of Heart changing. Obviously it'd have to if the Princess got old and died or may get killed.

And, before someone brings up the 'The KH universe has no concept of death', no, that's stupid. It makes no sense. Too many plots of the disney movies REQUIRE death of some kind to kick off the plot; Mufassa needs to die so Scar can usurp him, Elsa and Anna's parents die to send Elsa into a depression, Cinderella's father dies to let Lady Tremaine abuse his daughter, and Maleficent is constantly threatening to kill Aurora AND Hades is the damn Lord of the Underworld and he even specifically says 'Hades, Lord of the Dead' at some point. There is no POSSIBLE way to make this reconcile with 'There is no death'. Sorry. I don't care if its Fanon Discontinuity. It just doesn't make sense.

Getting that out of the way, the title would logically need to change after time. What I don't like is that there were easier ways to make this retcon without, well, actually retconning. All we really needed was an explanation that, while 7 are needed to form the keyblade and everything involved with that first game, there ARE more than 7 total. They'd still maintain their 'special' status and it wouldn't undermine the first game much. I feel like suddenly saying 'Ok, Jasmine isn't a Princess of Heart anymore' is arbitrary and out of place since it seems more like an excuse to slide Elsa or Anna into the line up while also making it harder to bring that character back if they ever wanted to use them again.

It also raises further questions. If a Princess of Heart can suddenly lose her 'pure light' status... Why is that even special then? Wouldn't that be the same of, say, a child who hasn't grown up enough to have darkness in their heart of some childhood-innocence-loss kind of thing? It starts to feel less like 'They cannot be corrupted by the darkness' and more like 'They HAVEN'T YET been corrupted by the darkness". And that's less 'special' and powerful than suggested back in Kingdom Hearts. It also might even be the case if Elsa is the Princess of Heart and Larxine is asking if she'll fall to darkness. Unless they pull some 'They knew there was a Princess of Heart in Arendale, assumed it was Elsa, but it was Anna all along' plot twist?

Its probably the only part of the E3 reveal that I actually didn't like. I think its a bad move when there are simpler ways to achieve the exact same thing.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is fuelled by Nomura’s “burning anger”

“If I had to pick, I am a person more on the dark side like Xehanort and co., I harness the burning anger in my heart into what I create,” the developer wrote, according to Sq Ex.info‘s translation.

“Kingdom Hearts 3 current development explodes very much in this sense.”

Damn no wonder most of the KH titles have had sad endings.

The relation between Kingdom Hearts and Tetsuya Nomura's psyche would make for a very interesting essay, I think.

I don't think that's the case. Or at least, it wasn't stated. The rules are: you have to leave your body behind, you must exist at both origin and destination for your trip, you can "only move forward as per the laws of time" once you arrive, and you cannot change fate (IE, You Already Changed the Past). That third point is annoyingly vague (does it mean you can only warp through time once per trip?), but it doesn't imply a restriction on what direction you can travel, since it's a rule that applies after you arrive at your intended time.

Besides, we know that traveling to the past can be done; ASOD, Sora, and Riku all did it in DDD. And YX was taught by ASOD.

@KH has no concept of death: I don't know what the original Japanese says but is it possible he's talking about it in a more abstract sense? Obviously people die. We've seen it happen in the series. He might mean that a person's Heart never truly gets destroyed which would mean they're still around even if they don't have a body.

It's been pretty clearly shown in this series that dying is the equivalent of a bad headache — usually, it'll pass. In that sense, it's not untrue that this series has no concept of death.

It's interesting to me that Nomura doesn't particularly relate to (and if his comments are any indication, care that much for) Sora and that he apparently has all this bitterness in him. Maybe not the best to let that out in KH of all places, but it would be cool to see him channel that into another game project.
