She came back in that.

I did, but it has been a long time. And I definitely don't remember that.
Optimism is a duty.I mean.
She tried to take over Disney Castle and covered everything in thorns?
Her only motivation seemed to be either finding a new place to live or killing Santa Claus that one time because of reasons.
To be fair, killing Santa seems like a total Maleficent move.
I wonder if Halloween Town will be in Kingdom heats 3
New theme music also a boxShe desires to take control over Darkness, and for it, she believes light must be extinguished. Just my two cents.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...I'm not entirely clear on why she was helping Sora, though.
Optimism is a duty.Nothing from Pochoantas please. The only raccoon I want to summon is Rocket.
Both times Maleficent helps Sora is because the Nobodies are a bigger threat. I mean she gets taken out by a handful of Dusks, for goodness' sake.
To be fair Dusks are significantly stronger then heartless, also the keyblade makes fighting them easy
New theme music also a boxRight, without the keyblade, even the most basic Heartless are a tough fight.
Optimism is a duty.Seriously?
Well, the first time Sora encountered them, at least, his normal weapons did nothing against them. That suggests to me that normal weapons have no or limited effect on them.
Got the games now, gonna play tomorrow. I notice that the box art is done in classic cartoon style... and looks quite a bit better than the aged 3D models in the game. Gotta love that timeless cartoon look.
Optimism is a duty.Funny thing: Squall and other FF characters beating Heartless in KHII. Especially Tifa, a girl known to fight with her own fists.

Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...I never said the game was very consistent about it, but that was the general implication: ONLY the keyblade was really effective against the Heartless. I'm sure there is some handwaving about these characters having strong hearts or something (read: characters with a name and bio in their universe).
Optimism is a duty. That scene where Maleficent gets pounded by a bunch of Dusks is one of the dumbest scenes in the series for a simple reason.
Why did she not summon that wall of fire in front of her?!?!!!
I have a lot of gripes with KH 2's writing but Maleficent coming back at all just to be treated how she was is one of the big ones.
Maleficent is mage and she didn't have the time to use the Firespell
New theme music also a boxAnd yet, I feel she's been treated even worse in the later games. I mean, at least she sort of had a character arc in KHII, even if it's not a particularly well-executed one. In the later games, particularly coded and DDD, she just comes off as a total joke.
Weirdly, I feel Pete also got kind of short-changed by later games, even though he was a filler joke villain since he first got introduced in the series. But in KHII he at least has a bit of depth — there's an implication that Being Evil Sucks with him and that he's made himself miserable by turning away from being a rough-but-honest steamboat captain to being a supervillain. Then, near the end, when he stands with Maleficent to confront the onslaught of Heartless, there's at least a hint of there still being a trace of the noble Captain Pete left in there. It's not much, but it at least elevates him above being a one hundred percent one-dimensional character — which he very much becomes in every game afterwards. It's a shame, because with all of Pete's various past incarnations there's potential to make him a bit more... complex, without it having to come off as out of character. But the series doesn't really seem interested in trying.

The thing about the keyblade vs other weapons on heartless is only a keyblade can release the heart. Otherwise the heartless just reforms. Its why roxas and xions misson were heart collection and the other members did intel and stuff
Sora is able to kill Heartless with magic in Hollow Bastion after Riku takes his Keyblade, so I'll chalk the Destiny Islands thing up to him just being a regular kid at that point.
IIRC, the Keyblade is the only thing that can release hearts from the heartless, is the thing. Anyone strong enough can fight them, they just can’t actually kill them. Heartless defeated without the keyblade will just reform later on.
It’s why Orgy 13 needed Roxas/Xion/Sora to get anything done. Xemnas could have done it, but kept his keyblade secret since he was actually recruiting for the the True Organization (at least that’s my understanding of it.)

Definitely nanomachines. They're pretty good.
