@ikkin I don't think Riku was ever morally pure since the beginning of KH 1.

[up] Yup! My love is cheap, but it's in high demand. Right ? XD

@ Vanitas: Probably not. XD But from Chain of Memories and on, he really wants to change into a better person, but he's willing to be the monster that he hates for the sake of his friends, even if it means he no longer has any right to go back to them.

(Riku's Chain of Memories scenario also has some interesting abuse parallels, too)

As far as buying love is concerned, I'm of the opinion that love is only worthwhile if it's freely given. =/

[up] He gets pretty Wangsty about that stuff though which bothers me. i liked KH 1 Riku.

Re:Com Riku was cooler. Maybe because he's pretty fun to play as and gets cool lines too.

What does Riku do during KH 2 anyways ? ._.

XD Everyone here already has my friendship and love anyway. I was ripping them off.Go for the Internet Sandwhiches. tongue

[up] Oh, okay, so it's only KH 2 and Days Riku you don't like? I can kinda see that... he does seem to regress a bit after Chain of Memories (the transformation into "Ansem" explains that, but it doesn't really do much to make it less frustrating).

Re:Co M Riku is my favorite, because he's just so dysfunctional. His insecurity and his fear/anger/hatred of the darkness get all tied up in each other, which manifests through violence and self-destructiveness rather than angsting in the emo corner. And, on the other hand, you have his general helplessness in the face of Ansem and need to learn to rely on others for help.

(I also think there's a bit of that Christian symbolism that TV Tropes loves there, too... Riku has to rely on the King and his Holy spells [/Magic Miracle] for healing and his protection to save him from the darkness inside of him. It wouldn't make a half-bad allegory, intentional or no)

Should have figured you'd be ripping everyone off, Van. XD *saves her points for the no-derail week* ;)

[up] I just don't think I like it when Riku angsts a lot. Except for Repliku he's Riku with Taken to Eleven Angst . I can't take him seriously because he's so amusing. Except for his death scene that was one of the saddest ones and he won't even get saved! sad

I probably will end up liking 3D Riku. Hopefully less angst and he's got his better KH 1 design plus Soul Eater which is cooler than WAY TO THE DAWN!

I assure you it's unintentional.

NOOOO! =0 Buy my love or friendship I will like you twice as much. Derails are my bread and butter.

So that makes 3 of us. grin

I still like Sora more. It's too bad he doesn't get as much love here in the States.

He:

> Saves Kairi from Axel

> Saves Namine from her death at Di Z' hands

> Warns the Emperor of the Heartless Dragon

That's not exactly a pissy amount, plus it's implied he did more behind the scenes.

[up] Kairi got captured anyway. I believe that's an instance where Riku's angst actually held him back.

I'm aware of what he did and yes that is not much. Saving Namine was important

What he did will probably shown in BBS Vol. 2

No, that's a hell of a lot more than anyone else did. We know what Sora did, because we played as him.

Everything we've seen of him, though...

I mean, consider if you were playing as Riku. Now, the only times you see Sora are when you're trying to warn the Emperor/a couple of cutscenes. Would you say Sora didn't do much?

[up] ~sigh~ You said you like KH 2 Riku because he's willing to get things done. All I was saying is that he didn't do much in Kingdom Hearts 2 the game not in that time period. In my previous post I even said that we were probably gonna be shown what he did in that "time period" in KH BBS. Vol. 2.

He likes to 'get things done' in that, every time we see him he is actively working towards an end goal. He never loafs around.

[up] Sure I guess from what we've seen.

His angst holds him back from doing things he should've done.

Like IMO he should've taken Kairi with him instead of dumping her in Twilight Town or trying to hide from Sora.

I prefer that to having Riku solve everything, really.

Then again, I'm a fan of Angel.

I was always more of a Buffy fan.

[up] Instead Sora solves most of everything.tongue

Now that I think about it we might see what Riku did in KH 2 from Mickey's side instead of playing as him in BBS. Vol. 2. Playing as Riku in ASOD form for hours seems like something Nomura wouldn't do.

Everybody hates Connor, fuck that kid.

-shrug- Sora does everything because he's the Player Character. That's why it would be annoying if Riku did everything- it would diminish the player's sense of accomplishment.

They could have shoehorned more stuff in, but eh.

I didn't know people hated him, but I can see why.

[up] I really felt like the game was dragging its feet a bit so I'd be all for Riku solving some things for me. But just some.

I think the point is that Riku did more plot essential things, interacting with and saving some of the main characters, while Sora did some more... tangential stuff (like singing and playing with Pooh!).
