Illumination's list of current projects does not make me believe they are equipped for this sort of adaptation.
The best we can hope for I think is that Universal is only bringing in Illumination for the CGI, not for the scripting or direction.
THIS.
And I'd watch a live-action movie of Monster were it an American-German co-production. IN GERMAN.
Heaven doesn't want me, and Hell's afraid I'll take over.I'm scared that this might be a case of Animation Age Ghetto. As far as we know, they might of just thought "It's Japanese, right? It's for kids. It's about Astro Boy, right? It's for kids."
Which, unfortunately, is most likely will never happen.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.T-T
90% chance they will screw this up.
Plants are aliens, and fungi are nanomachines.Er,is there any evidence that this is actually happening? Movie rights get sold all the time with nothing coming of it, and the linked article is from two years ago

I'm a bit on the skeptical side. Illumination doesn't exactly have the look of a company that screams slow-burn-noir-sci-fi-with-heartrending-tragedy. But hey, this might never get off the ground just like the Monster film.
Not that I wouldn't love a live-action Pluto film.
