Questionable Content

From the cop movies, I thought that was how cops made snitches. There are the ones who do it for money, too. At least in the movies. Of course, Faye is only supposed to watch for evidence of real crime, whatever that would be. But if she found out some AI was being forced to fight, neither she nor Bubbles would accept that anyway. If there's gambling, then I suppose the fights could be rigged. Would that count as something Faye would need to turn over to the cops? At any rate, sounds like something interesting is going to happen soon.

L Mage, she isn't just saying "If there's real abuse going there, I'm going to sweep the place". She specifically points out that she can get Faye at any time. That threat is aimed specifically at her, thus it's blackmail.

Snitches are supposed to be "Confidential Informants" and they are known to the police, rather than a cop just going out to say "hey, I'm going to arrest you unless you talk." There are a lot of rules and regulations to protect C Is.

Let's say this story was told from Robocop's POV, and it turned out some abusive shit was going down.

Those two details aside, let's say the meeting went down exactly the same.

What would you say to that?

That she's coercing someone into a dangerous situation (an illegal, abusive fighting ring for superpowered robots? Eeesh) without giving them proper cover.

If there are abuses happening, this is a real bad way to investigate it.

Aside: I find TV Tropes' little messages of support as you post a message to be mocking and sarcastic.

Especially when the formatting for the italics doesn't work and it looks like you're doing sarcastic quote marks.

Any text formatting markup inside a link are ignored, so if you want to italicize part of a link, you have to break out the part of the link you want to italicize, and the parts on either side, as separate links.

Maybe the cop is actually the bad AI and is just trying to muscle in on the takings? By "turning" a resource inside, she can then use that to gain leverage over the person running the place and then she gets a cut?

Faye, from her POV, could just be collateral. And being human, is probably easier to threaten as a "weak link".

And it shows the talent of Jeph that his characters have came to life and I actually am worried about Faye. She's screwed up badly but gotten her life back into gear, and even found a new friend. Life doesn't always have happy endings, of course.

I'm guessing this is the "being taken advantage of" situation Faye is eventually going to have to worry about.

Christ, she really chooses the path of most jerkass-ness. Because seriously, she's 100% right. There's no need to frame it as a Shame If Something Happened threat. Her statements are plain facts, Bubbles going "nope, not my problem" is kind of silly, and she's not saying that she'd actually do anything to hurt Bubbles but letting her know that the police might.

Yet she chooses to do it in the smarmiest manner possible. I really hope Corpsewitch gets some background because I hope there's a reason she elects to be a Card-Carrying Villain at all times.

Especially the "you may lose your chassis" part, given that Bubbles very specifically does not fight. She's just as a mechanic there.

Eyeh, but asset seizure can get pretty broad.A chassis being used to aid a criminal enterprise is, in many ways, similar to an SUV owned by the parents of a drug runner, even if they never deal the drugs themselves.

On top of which, that's a combat chassis. Whatever the letter of the law, I could see a lot of people being quite keen to separate a convicted (or suspected) felon from a fairly serious piece of military equipment.

I assume that her chassis is provided to her by the AI version of the VA, and they may revoke her coverage and care, including taking back a provided chassis.

It's skeevy but it's not like the real-life VA is equally skeevy.

Not to mention sure, she doesn't fight. The cops might not know that. Lord knows they certainly wouldn't believe it without proof. "Oh yeah, I just happen to have a combat chassis and work for the underground robot fights, but don't worry, I don't use it" just sounds like a lie.

In real life, I would expect a chassis to have some sort of "protected status" when it comes to asset seizure.

It would be the equivalent of taking someone's wheelchair or prosthetics, no? I mean, she literally needs the chassis to interface with the physical world.

Or maybe they will take the combat chassis and provide her with another one that is not geared for combat.

Seeing Martin and Faye on the couch as a sleepy hanners turns up is so nostalgic.

Faye's not going to let herself be complicit in any abuse. The police having dialogue with her just gives her an option with how to stop it. Of anything this storyline has me confident that things are going to turn out for the better.

@chassis, it sounds like, based off of May, that the government can seize your body, but if you're not institutionalised they have to provide you with a replacement so that you can still take part in society. But it may be poorly operational. Which I imagine would be unpleasant to have your body replaced with a worse one.
