Could be it was before the cult tightened their isolationism. Or before Willow’s family joined. Or after they left (assuming "when I was a kid" = 16 or 17). Really, there are many possibilities.
She says they left when she was 16. Museum visit could've been at like 10 before the cult got culty enough to get the cops at it.

Ok, now it makes more sense. I was thinking that seemed like a really quick timeline for a cult to spring up, but given this origin story…
It also explains Willow’s name, if her parents were deep enough into a fantasy-themed cult to legally change their names to “Dragonfang.”

The suitcase full of dildos is a classic smuggling trick. You carry two suitcases. One of them has normal clothing, and then whatever you're smuggling hidden beneath a false bottom. You make a point of showing that one to the authorities, which naturally means they'll focus on the second one. The second suitcase is full of dildos. This also helpfully explains away any nervousness you might have about the smuggling.
