Note at 1:16 that it's apparently still possible to permanently fuck up a puzzle (as well as get squished).
Look's like I'd better figure out that "souls have weights" puzzle BEFORE I try to solve it so it won't go like last time...
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadHmm, looks rather impressive.

You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!BTW did any of you guys see the La Mulana article in the latest nintendo power? It basically gave a light walkthrough of the surface area of the game. Hopefully it'll generate some interest when the game comes out.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadBump, a dude on justin.tv is streaming the japanese version of La Mulana on Wiiware. Check it out if interested.

I never really watched Nigoro's streams, so this makes me even more excited. There's definetly lot of love that was put into the game, and it looks so much better comparing it to what we saw back in 2009.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadWow, this thread is old.
yeah, this game was in development about as long as Cave Story wii was.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadHey, how do you in original version read stuff with hand scanner? I press M in front of them, but only blank blue screen with "Ok" appears =/
Ones that have text on them should normally produce gibberish-text when read without a decoding cartridge, and produce readable text in English or Japanese when read with a decoding cartridge.
and note that not all of them have text, many of the broken ones seem to say nothing. basically, remember to equip the Glyph Reader Cartridge before handscanning.
Y'know what I hate is when you finally solve a puzzle...and all it does is make it easier to go to an area you already have access too. It would have been nice if I had solved it earlier, but now it's just redundant.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadI actually liked how the areas are very interconnected. As opposed to, say, Castlevania Circle Of The Moon, where the areas seem very clearly meant to be traversed linearly. It helps with the suspension of disbelief.
That said, I can only think of one puzzle that does what you say off the top of my head—the Moon Temple teleportation/breakable blocks puzzle (just on the Moon Temple side of its connection to this walkway that cuts across the Tower of the Goddess).
The one I refer to is the one in the Sky Spring. Unplugging the water at the bottom allowed me to get access to the Chimera statue in the Sun Temple, but I can already get to that statue thanks to my Feather and Boots.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadI discovered answer to my question from La-Mulana wiki =P Apparently, there is some problem where you need to replace japanese "Text.bmp" from graphics folder with the english one for some reason.
Yeah, and that only sometimes happens. It didn't happen to me.
Sakamoto demands an explanation for this shit.@Barrylocke: I thought that water is there not for that purpose but so that you can access some stuff in the two screens below the sphinx.
I don't know what the trigger is for the sphinx going from you-hit-it-you-get-zapped to auto-destruct or destructible, though.
The only thing I can tell that'd be easier to access with the water would be the boots, and I have that too.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadHow do you get the boots without it?
It's been awhile, but I believe I managed it using the Feather+grapple Claws. I was able to jump JU St high enough to be able to grapple one wall, and then fling myself to the ledge that led to the Boots.
Also, I finally made ACTUAL progress by being able to enter the Temple of the Moon Pyramid. LA Mulana ahoy!
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadThe pyramid is pretty easy to enter. Are you talking about a certain part of it?
No, I just mean the initial entering by using Flares on the Sun in the Sun Pyramid, somehow I missed that. I also climbed the Goddess Tower and found...nothing it seems.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadI don't like the Tower of the Goddess very much, gameplay-wise. It's very beautifully-executed atmospherically, with a combination of strangely futuristic area art and tonally-ambiguous music. However, it's a royal pain in the ass to climb—something you have to do even if you have access to the grail point, IIRC.
This exactly. Aesthetically, it's my favorite area on the Backside that I've seen so far. But that tower is a bitch. I think I could have climbed it much earlier, but I just failed, between the grapple claws and the invisible monsters. the Tablets say to "not hesitate and don't look back" or they'll hurt me, but honestly it seems like they just Troll me no matter what I do.
And I stand corrected, I did find something...a breakable wall that I don't seem to be able to break with the weapons I have.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft insteadWhat weapons/subweapons do you have?
Also, I made a thread about La-Mulana on Caves of Narshe.
Hmm, if it's the one I think it is, you have to stand on a goddess statue's arm in the same room. If the statues are gone, you have to shoot it with your pistol.
Tower was indeed, a bitch to climb. I wonder how they'll fix that in the Wii version.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!Weapons: Whip Level 2 (the final whip is locked out, though I doubt that matters for puzzles), Knife, Axe
Subweapons: Shiruken, Kunai, Spears, Flares, Leather Shield and Scanner.
Also, I think I did what the slab that tells me to "seek what Riv is pointing at" wanted me to do. I went back to the Mausoleom of Giants and found a Giant that was holding his arm up to a pot. Breaking the pot revealed a...thing, it reminded me of those sphere things in the Spring in the Sky. Whiping THAT (over 10 times) broke it, and I got a success tone. But I'm not sure what I triggered, so I'm going around looking for changes.
Taking a break from FE1, for the FE8 draft instead
A trailer released a while ago that I had not noticed.
