Hideki Kamiya indeed had nothing to do with the series after the first game. Although they seemed to have figured out how to handle him in 3 (since his personality develops between in, the anime, and 4) but then we got DmC and all that good stuff.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! And Dm C Dante has nothing to do with the Old Dante so why even bring him or his game up?

Because they finally figured out what to do with Classic Dante only to get rid of him. It's like over in the Sonic the Hedgehog series where the 4Kids VAs finally got really good at voicing the characters only for them to be changed for no real reason. That's why I brought it up.

Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Eh, I guess that's a fair point. I don't like what they settled on for Old Dante at all is the thing but it is nice to find someone else who liked the 4Kids VA's for Sonic so all is well. :)
Since Capcom thought that there was nowhere to go with Dante (pffff) I thought to myself, "What would I do if I could write for this character?" Man I had so many different ideas like
Fleshing out the tale between him and Vergil. We know that when they met in pt. 3 they were enemies but why? They mention that Vergil's lust for power caused a riff between the 2 but why not explore that a bit? Where they always at each others' throats or was there an incident that destroyed their brotherly bond? You could do some flashbacks. Hell it could even tie into the plot of a game. Dante ventures into the lowest pits of Hell (or purgatory...I'm not sure where he ended up when he died forreals in DMC 1) to free his brother's soul because at the end of the day he still loves him despite their rocky relationship.
Speaking of fleshing out how would Nero and Trish interact with each other when the later isn't playing a role? What about Lady? What would their relationship be like? Why not have all 4 of them working together to take down a big bad or a team of villains?
Showing different sides of Dante. We know he's sarcastic but he's also great with kids. He's like a cool big brother. Oh, and don't hurt any of his friends or clients. Trust me, you'll only want to see his care-free side if he has you in his sights.
I know that was kind of jumbled but man I'd love if a good writer got a crack at the series. There are so many things you could do with these characters and settings.

I just want Vergil to be a little motivated.
That's all we need.
Here's the catch: You have to balance what you can show with what won't get in the way of the gameplay. Whatever side characters you have need to be in a place where demons and thus Dante will appear. Take note what Bayonetta had to do in order to show more of the title character's personality. Honestly, having Trish, Lady, Kyrie, and Nero appear more would have been great for Dante because he would have had more people to work off of and thus would have expanded his personality.
Also, a lot of the stuff you're talking about was shown in the DMC anime.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Yeah, character interactions allow for more growth.
CC were going to explain it in 4 but punked out.
Dante was supposed to have a form called perfect devil trigger where he'd be stupidly powerful but lose his humanity. He would kill lady & trish and Nero would have to stop him with his own PDT.
I would've been fine with their deaths honestly.
Where is the proof for that? Because I don't recall seeing anything about that before.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...The Perfect Devil Triggers did exist, but there's absolutely nothing on Trish and Lady dying from what I know.
Let's see if you can get past my Beelzemon. Mephiles, WARP SHINKA!A theory I've heard from fans is that something happened and Lady, Trish and Nero ended up dead leaving Dante alone. There is no one in the shop when Lucia is there and Dante's empathizing with Lucia when she's driven to suicide could be him having had similar feeling when his friends died.
Personally, I hope this isn't true as I'd really like to see Lucia interact with the rest of the DMC cast.

Honestly, I think killing off Trish and/or Lady just to justify his DMC 2 personality would be an absolutely terrible idea. Wasting two iconic, likeable characters just so they have an excuse for something that was really just shitty writing when the series was in a flux state. It's better to just either retcon it or sweep it under the rug entirely.

A corpse should be left well enough alone...I'm still just rolling with my headcanon that Dante ate some bad pizza before going and had a killer stomach ache the entire time.

"Here's the catch: You have to balance what you can show with what won't get in the way of the gameplay..."
See I was just thinking about story beats. Damnit captain, I'm not a game designer! I'm just an anonymous guy on the web! I never really fleshed things out but I was thinking that maybe the story I'd tell would take place over the course of 3 games. The first one would be a smaller conflict that would involve only Dante and Trish who eventually defeat the big bad. The mid-credits stinger would reveal an even bigger baddie who states that despite the setback things will proceed as planned. The second game would expand on "the plan" and things would escalate which would bring Nero (and maybe Lady) into the fray. In the third one shit has really hit the fan and The Big 4 would definitely be working together to stop the world as we know it from ending. Some minor/major characters, both good and bad, could be introduced as well. Like I said I don't have all the details worked out but if I could come up with a base idea then someone more competent could do better.
You just reminded me that I need to finish Bayonetta. I think I'm at the halfway point.
Never saw or heard of the anime. Is it worth a watch?

I'd say that it is. The intro song is cool and the insert song in one episode, "Future in My Hands" is amazing and the art looks really pretty. There's not much in the way of fights that we see clearly since I feel like the budget was blown elsewhere but I think it works out. It's only 12 episodes so you can easily marathon it in a day. Also, Dante and Trish are voiced by the people who voiced them in 3 those that's a plus. It's also canon to the games.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! The anime was a waste of potential.
It should've been focused on Vergil.
The anime for an action game... had very little action in it.
Basically it was a Slice of Life anime with Dante's love of pizza, strawberry sundaes and Whiskey
God, it was frustrating whenever the action cut away when a fight was about to happen.
Still, it was a fun little romp into Dante's day to day workings.
I found the first 5 episodes on You Tube so I'll give those a view within the next few days. It's amazing all the things you can find on that site. How haven't they been sued into oblivion yet?
I
They're too big to challenge.
It's like trying to fight Mundus without the Sword of Sparda.
Except Dante could totally do that from the anime onward. He kills a demon of similar power in the anime with his standard DT in the anime, is presumably even more powerful in 4, and kills another demon of similar power in his base form in 2 (and that's not touching the Majin Form).
It's not that You Tube is too big, it's a function of how You Tube works. Companies hold the authority to order video take downs at any moment and You Tube/Google will comply to avoid being sued. That's the so-dumbed-down-it's-almost-wrong explanation of how it works. Besides, You Tube isn't infringing on the copyright, it's the person who uploaded the video(s). They're the ones who'd be sued, if anyone.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Well I just got shit on.
Also, wasn't Dante able to beat that super demon because he was just a poser who stole his power, like how Arkham and Sanctus were unable to tap into Sparda's full power?
Why did they decide to make him a bad one liner-spewing shithead in DMC 3?
Because they clearly had no idea what they were doing with the character. He was always intended to be "BEYOND COOL" and each game floundered about, trying new things to make him cool. IIRC, Dante's actual creator had nothing to do with the series after 1.
