"Make a new trope for potholing purposes" still has the same problem it did the last time it was proposed in this thread. Namely, that's exactly how Incredibly Lame Pun was created. If making a new trope for potholing is a valid solution, why not stick with the one we did make for that purpose? If using Incredibly Lame Pun is no longer valid, why would a new page be?
This hasn't been answered, and now it's being suggested again by the person who brought it up to begin with. Even if you had thread hopped, I just told you this again. So please listen this time. If you can come up with an actual argument against it so we have something to talk about, that would be great, but I'm willing to settle for you not proposing this again without a good reason.
Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuBTW ... has there been any recent reviews of its use in actual wikilinks?
- checks numbers*
. . . Wow, nearly 7,000 wikilinks and 16,000 inbounds. More than even If You Know What I Mean!
Happy trails.

An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Because, whatever it started as, the current definition for Incredibly Lame Pun is "pun that is considered really lame in-universe". This is a legitimate trope. It's being misused as a pothole magnet. So, create a new pothole magnet to avoid the misuse.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.I think we will just have to repurpose it for what its used for and move this trope to Groan Inducing Pun or something.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!And how would a new trope avoid this problem? Let's say you use Pun Intended. Eventually, someone will want to add examples of uses of "Pun Intended" as a Stock Phrase, and telling them not to isn't going to be a good answer, especially because if we stop using Incredibly Lame Pun this way there will be precedent against doing that. So we'll be right back here again, having to come up with a new page, and another one, and another one, and so on.

Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuMaking up theoretical problems with a potential new page doesn't justify doing nothing.
The problem we have right now is that the definition of Incredibly Lame Pun and how it's actually being used are at odds. Spinning off a new page for the way it's being used to prevent misuse of the current page is an accepted method of dealing with that problem. Since all of the examples currently on Incredibly Lame Pun are correct, and I think the title fits the current definition better than the Pun Intended usage does, I'm suggesting we keep Incredibly Lame Pun as it is and create Pun Intended for potholing.
If there ends up being a problem with that, then we'll deal with it when it happens.
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. With all stuff potholed to it, I'd suggest Pardon The Pun instead of Pun Intended, to keep the "apology" part.

"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."Isn't there a generic Pun page we could use?
Edit: Whoops, it's a redirect to A Worldwide Punomenon.

I'm down with Pardon The Pun
Really from Jupiter, but not an alien. Is anybody paying attention to the crowner? 'Keep it the way it is' is winning by a wide margin.
Probably we should also change the Pun redirect to ILP, now that it got confirmed as the main pun page.
Incredibly Lame Pun was supposed to be for a pun that's bad even in-fiction, and often pot-holed. Some people have taken in-roads to change some of the ILP links to A Worldwide Punomenon
Not.
Anyways, I fixed the redirect according to the crowner's clearly winning solution, and slightly edited ILP to make it's intended purpose a bit more clear.
Now we only deed to decide what to do with AWWP.

Actually, "change it back to the way it was" is winning.
"Tropers already embraced Incredibly Lame Pun as the main, generic pothole for puns. Keep using it this way." Winning at +24 to +8.
A bit late in my reply, but this isn't a "theoretical problem" any more than the subject of this thread is. I do agree that it's not really a problem, but if we made a new page, we'd be exactly where we started with Incredibly Lame Pun. It would have the same problems because it would be the same situation.
Productivity is for people without internet connections. -Count DorkuA generic pothole for puns is exactly what it was, not what it is. The way it is, it's an actual, legit trope.
The subject of this thread is an actual problem, albeit one that was caused by the fact that it wasn't a problem originally. You are making up a similar problem with a nonexistent page. That IS making up theoretical problems with a potential new page. Just because something happens once, does not mean it is inevitable.

On a side note, Am I the only one who is a little annoyed at the fact that this trope uses some very ablist language? can we change the word to something other than "lame" please? Like sad, or sorry, or I don't know, someone come up with something else, because as it stands, "lame" to mean pathetic is really offensive to a lot of people with disabilities.
A Worldwide Punomenon strikes me as an exceedingly unfitting title. If we're to get rid of pun potholes to Incredibly Lame Pun (which for what it's worth I don't think we necessarily need to get rid of anyway) then we'll have to come up with a better trope to pothole to than that.

"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartConsidering "keep it the way it is" is winning by a massive margin, should we just lock this thread and call it a day? This has been open for a very long time.
Only if you look at the number of votes. The second option has a way better ratio (1.61 vs 2.29).

Crown Description:
The previous crowner for Incredibly Lame Pun was split between two options. This is a runoff crowner.
Pun Intended is an excellent idea.
