Do you want to have sex? I think we should have sex. CASUAL SEX.I don't even want to talk about the most overrated film in existence right now...
... But the most underrated ones would easily be:
Return of the Killer Tomatoes
Jaws 3
Die Another Day
Pee-wee's Big Adventure
Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the Rings
and pretty much the entire film output of M. Night Shyalaman, with the possible exception of The Last Airbender (haven't seen it yet).

The Kagami topic has now reached 201 posts! (Nov 5)Overrated: Alot really
Avatar, Titanic, The Producers, The Shining, Dumb And Dumber, Gladiator, The Dark Knight and Citizen Kane come to mind first.
(Still liked Gladiator, TDK and Citizen Kane, just not as much as others seem to.)
Underrated:
Grosse Pointe Blank, The Fox And The Hound, Seraphim Falls, Balto and Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.Overrated: For the past decade, easily Avatar. MASSIVELY OVERRATED! The scenery is rather nice, but it doesn't distract from flat characters, a plot riddled in cliche after cliche, and scenarios WE! HAVE! SEEN! UMPTEEN! TIMES! That said, it's worth it just for the visuals alone. For everything else, look elsewhere.
Underrated: Of all those I've seen? Admittedly, I don't know, but Persepolis is rather well done, and people don't hear about this often. There are also quite a bit this past decade worth of note, but...

Do we nearly need this thread for every single one? Really? Look, if someone else thought it was a good idea, and cloned it, ok, whoohoo. Not the same guy doing it! It's cheap, and annoying.
New User HandleUnderrated: Brick film noir murder mystery set in a tropperiffic high school, with a breakout acting role from Joeseph Gordon Levitt, yes please.
Overrated: No Country For Old Men no movie that kills off it's main character off screen should be nominated, let alone win best picture.
Scratch the surface of a cynic and you'll find a dissapointed idealist.Overrated: Avatar. Titanic. James Cameron, in general. Iron Man. Kick-ass. Juno. JUNO. JUNO!!!!
Underrated: Undercover Brother. Better Off Dead, which is silly but as good as any 80's high school flick.
Underrated: Kara No Kyoukai
@myrmidon they didn't try anything new; people have been telling instead of showing for centuries.
Scratch the surface of a cynic and you'll find a dissapointed idealist.Overrated: Star Wars New Trilogy (I still cringe anytime a younger viewer tells me their favorite character was Jar Jar Binks), and every/all Pixar films (although it's extremely subjective as they really do deserve every bit of praise given to them.
Underrated: Tim Burton's Sleepy Hallow (although YMMV)

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Overrated: Citizen Kane. Once considered the greatest movie of the century (OVER Casablanca!), I never understood what made it so great.

^^I must be lucky. I've yet to come across someone who didn't hate the prequel trilogy.
It does not matter who I am. What matters is, who will you become? - motto of Omsk Bird^^It invented a lot of groundbreaking cinematic techniques that you need to be a film major to appreciate.
Story's just okay, though.
^^^My favorite character is Jar-Jar Binks.

Kill all math nerdsHahaha, nice one Myrmidon. But I know you're just saying that to push my Berserk Button.
Also, Underrated: A Bugs Life. Why is it considered the 2cd worse PIXAR film? It was an awesome film and deserves more praise.

A wish is never free.Oh yeah, Conan the Barbarian is quite a worthy film.
I loathe Titanic. There's only one scene I think is watchable.
no one will notice that I changed this
A little game. It's called Overrated / Underrated, where you can pick a Overrated & Underrated film.
A note I would like to add: OVERRATED doesn't mean "It won a Oscar! That must mean it is!". Listen, I know their are plenty of people who hate Crash, but actually go into reasons, and don't use "it won a Oscar and not X" as a point. It really just goads my nerves sometimes. Also, OVERRATED doesn't mean bad. It mean it just gets on your nerves when people think it's flawless.
UNDERRATED doesn't not mean something with a huge Hatedom, or "didn't win a Academy Award!" as a point, shown above. Just something people don't know about, or haven't got a big reputation.
My picks:
OVERRATED: Pulp Fiction
UNDERRATED: Good Night & Good Luck
