Anime/Durarara!!

What happened to Izumii is explained in Durarara SH, the sequel series. After the Dollars fell apart, he and his cronies joined up with the Awakusu-kai.

Who he pretty much already worked for when he was trying to set Mikado up on a bad end.

But yeah after he just straight up joined the group.

It was glorious to see Masaomi disarm Mikado with a headbutt.

Gotta admit I was in a constant state of confusion whether it really was Takeshi or not before one of the characters finally dropped his name

I have to say, after the dub of Ketsu is finished, I kinda want to binge watch the series in it's entirety.

Go for it. This is the kind of series that's better when binged.

Alright, I've watched enough of this show that I should know better.

But going into Durarara Ten: is everybody in this show a psychopath?

No, she's a psychopomp. Different thing entirely.

Celty, Masaomi, Simon, Shizuo, Saki, Tom, Shuji, and Akane.

Maybe this cuts it down some more: how many are down to earth?

Celty probably is the most down to earth, despite behind a headless biker.

There's something off about Simon, it's not just the bad command of English, he gives literally zero f'cks about anything going on 90 percent of the time.

Shizuo doesn't seem to have any motivation in life beyond beating up Izaya, and part of his backstory was getting so pissed off he'd injure himself.

Saki doesn't appear to have anything wrong with her at this point in time - besides living alone with Masaomi and somehow making ends meet. I've missed the entire explanation of how their relationship thrives or how they're even surviving with Masaomi bumming around.

I would consider Masaomi down to earth, if not for the split between his dogged, perverted best friend face, and the burdened, moody ex-gang leader.

Akane wants to murder Shizuo despite knowing he's a really nice guy.

Don't remember Tom or Shuji.

Tom is the guy that works with Shizuo. Shuji is the journalist with the messed up daughter who's known as The Slasher.

Akane's just a little girl, so it's not like she understands everything. Plus just because she knows Shizuo is nice that doesn't mean he can't do horrible things. Just think about what her own family is involved with. We know Shizuo would never do stuff like Akane's been led to believe, but she doesn't know and is quite naive.

Where Touma takes 15 Shizuo punches and lives to tell about it.

How? I mean Chikage is noted to be an exceptionally resilient individual after taking four punches from Shizuo and only winding up hopitalised.

Not really. I mean, yes Anri is kind of messed up emotionally, but for all that she recognises a) that listening to Saika would be a bad thing and b) actually manges to keep the damn thing in check.

Akane on the other hand is a) not really old enough to fully understand the implications of her actions and b) being manipulated by Izaya. (Actually that last part applies to a lot of characters, his twin sisters probably topping that list).

Speaking of the twins their martial arts-sensei is mostly just a doofus. Shiki-san, for or all that he's a high ranking Yakuza is a very moral person. Emilia... well we never see her doing anything too morally shady but she is both working for Nebula and did marry Shingen. Shizuo's little brother, much like Anri, clearly has some emotional issues but is in no way a bad or immoral person. Kadota is a lot like Shiki, very strong morals (he's effectively acting as a prosthetic conscious for Walker and Erika) but not the same ones as shared by society at large. Actually that probably goes for Chikage as well.

It honestly doesn't make much sense unless Touma has recieved an extra power I don't know about, like super strength or something. I know he's got some good resilience, but I don't think it would stand up against someone as impossibly strong as Shizuo.

Touma has that same Charles Atlas Superpower Action Survivor ability that Izaya does.

But Izaya usually just dodges Shizuo's attacks, apparently Touma actually got hit head on.

Shizuo full-on clocked him with a vending machine in his first appearance.

Granted, it's not the same as fifteen punches, but Touma regularly fights outside his weight class anyway.

I still think 15 punches is a bit ridiculous though.

Shizuo is kind of a stretch. He's well enough when left alone, but all the destruction he causes when he gets pissed off makes it hard to call him stable.

I gotta agree about Shizuo, he can be a chill dude sometimes but no one flies off the handle as extraordinarily as he does.

I would say Kadota and Saburo are pretty normal dudes for the most part.

Also Izaya did not get smacked with a vending machine, he got smacked with a garbage can.

I am trying to get into this anime (have only watched the first episode) as I rather liked the idea of Celty from reading the premise (and she has managed to exceed my expectations in her appearance) and I have to ask does the pace start speeding up in subsequent episodes and does Celty get more screentime? I don't mind Mikado per say but I do find him a really boring POV so far. Maybe it's just because this is the introductory episode. I also found that little chat room segment a bit confusing I guess if only because I didn't know who was speaking (although from what I gathered into reading a little bit into spoilers these guys are the Dollars?).

Those people aren't necessarily the Dollars; they're just people who happen to be in an IRC-like chatroom. It's not supposed to be completely clear just who each username is (except perhaps Mikado) until a bit later on.

And Celty gets plenty more screentime, yeah. The exact POV character changes often, but Celty is pretty much always central to one plot or another. I forget what the prevailing consensus is, but personally, I consider Celty the "real" protagonist (and also the best character, so nice taste you have there).

The pace remains pretty much the same in order to put all the pieces of the puzzle in place and then things kick into overdrive and shit starts to hit the fan by the end. Each of DRRR's seasons/cours pretty much follow that pattern of slow buildup.

Just try to avoid spoilers as best you can, though. This is the kind of show that spoilers would really ruin.
