Double Standard

The page quote brings up an important point; even interpretations of double standards are subject to other double standards.

But just looking at the mess of double standards can be overwhelming; I have not bothered to look through all the lists, for reasons I hope the rest of you could understand; but even from the ones I recall noticing before I perceive some of these double standards as seeming to contradict each other.

And here is where we get into the relevant point; the real hypocrisy here is not merely individual double standards on their own, but whether or not the logic of one double standard contradicts that of another. I would regard an internally-consistent double standard as being at least better than a combination whose double standards contradict each other; that kind of contradiction implies hypocrisy, without telling us who the hypocrites are.

Well, I'll start with that for now. What do you think?

I read that as: "We have a huge mix of double standards in the world today, and they aren't consistent."

And I would agree with you. But aside from merely highlighting that Humans Are Flawed, I'm not sure what else you're trying to say.

I don't really get the mention of hypocrisy. I'd say that depending on the context, different double-standards can both be true and some aren't as contradictory as they might seem.

Yes, but it is the combination of different double standards with incompatible reasonings that indicates hypocrisy @ Jordan

Can you give an example so I understand what you are getting at?

Actually, I think that merely points out to fallacies in logic, or cognitive biases or just being stupid in general.

Unless we've developed a working AI, we're all prone to that one way or another, so I'm not surprised that a lot of these things don't make any sense as a whole.

It would be like: you have only two colors, red and blue. Some say that red sucks and blue is the best, and you have other folks that say the opposite. If you try to view both sides at the same time, you get - red sucks and is the best, and so does blue.

Or something like that.
