This Italian opening for Monster Rancher and the one for Yu-Gi-Oh definitely counts as awesome.
Also the song "Come sweet death" from "The End of Evangelion" is really great even if it's not an opening/ending.

Insolence! No one has posted this OP, clearly one of the best that even defeats Neon Genesis Evangelion's "Cruel Angel Thesis" and Angel Beats' OP?
My all time favorite anime ending...
It's awesome - awesomely emotional.

S-Cry-ed OP- Catchy song mixed with an ever changing sequence as the show progressed made this one of my favorites.
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha As OP Nothing much here to say other than that it blows the previous Nanoha opening out of the water.
Outlaw Star OP - Hell. Yes. Everything about this opening is awesome. The song, the visuals, everything. If those first few notes of Through the Night don't make you want to jam out, then you have no soul.
And last but not least:
'Nuff said.
Honorable mentions go to: Oath Sign, both Ghost In The Shell Stand Alone Complex openings, the first and third Code Geass openings and all of the Rockman EXE, Digimon, Full Metal Alchemist Brohterhood, and Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds openings. All of them.
There really aren't enough shows that use marches as opening themes.

"badass" doesn't anything in after used end fail be fine.
@Monadology: They could get the rights to the accompaniment but not the song itself? That's positively bizarre. But it's about the only explanation I can think of that doesn't make me rage. And I know that there have been similar problems getting the US rights for that one Oasis song in the OP for Eden Of The East...
It's still pretty beautiful even without the lyrics though. The lack of lyrics gives it a certain... meditative quality. A minute or so to think about what you just saw.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.
