You don't actually have to go online to increase your level. Like, ever. I reached max level by simply playing offline.

Obviously there's still a handful of achievements/trophies that are relatively out of reach, but I imagine those aren't really part of the question.

It bugs the hell out of me that they're essentially blocked off by design, but I'm not OCD enough to Platinum every game I have anyway, so... eh.
Still a horrible idea to tie trophies to anything online, though.
I guess its one incentive to play online.
That and without online trophies you'd likely get hilariously depressing shit as Sonic The Fighters. Which I got 100% on an hour after buying it.
