Did the Forest Navel end up as anything in Pikmin 2? It didn't seem very similar to Valley of Repose.

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonNo. That's the only area map they didn't reuse. As a result the Valley of Repose is the only map made for that game.

They reused Level maps? Huh. They all seemed so different.
They were different but if you look at the layout you can tell they reused them.

Forest of Hope and Awakening Wood are the same, Distant Spring and Perplexing Pool are the same, and Wistful Wild is both the Impact Site and the Final Trial
I believe the Dream Den is where the Engine used to be

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonIt seems like they just reused the outline of the level and added a bunch of new crap to it like hills and stuff.
Yeah they changed the specifics of what's in the level but the base model is practically identical in just about every scenario. That probably explains how they were able to make so many different dungeon layouts, the overworld was already designed.

I liked how the levels were the same areas, especially with how the environmental puzzles are altered. For example, the Awakening wood has you going counterclockwise in the main circle to complete the loop (Building the bridge) while the original was the other way around (Destroying a stone wall). Or how Wistful Wild starts you off in Emperor Bulblax's arena, has you work your way backwards, and eventually reach the Impact Site's landing spot.
Also, the Yellow and Blue Onions are where the Armored Cannon Beetles were, the Dream Den is where the Engine used to be, and the Snagret Hole is where the Snagrets were.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I didn't even realize the last one until you pointed it out Anom.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Snagrets. ಠ_ಠ
HATE SNAGRETS.
The fucking pileated snagret...
Me: -Does a lot of back and forth running-
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.Pileated Snagret isn't hard for me to defeat with no deaths, but it takes forever.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I normally like collecting boss corpses, but for Pileated, I make an exception and go straight for the Bitter Spray.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI like collecting enemy corpses even after paying off the debt, inexplicably. I usually purple spray Fiery Bulblaxes and sometimes Bulbears, though, because they're really hard to beat with zero casualties.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! Was the bit where you had to kill a Fiery Bulblax with only blues Submerged Castle or a Challenge Mode map?
Because that was shitty
So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonSubmerged Castle. I remember that being in Chuggaaconroy's LP and he didn't do the challenge mode.
There's also one in the Valley of Repose you have to fight like that, unless you're willing to drag Reds through water.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I'm pretty sure you can get reds there somehow, because I remember fighting that guys with reds, and I never take anything other than blues through water intentionally.
...Although I will sometimes throw the others over water. I'm going to assume that this Valley of Repose bit didn't have such a small area of water that you're talking about, however.

There's little stone islands around it, but there's also Water Dumples.
Eh, from a time-perspective it's much easier to fight it with blues, only real way to complete the extended Valley of Repose in one day. But otherwise it's still a hassle to bring reds, just less so.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Fiery Bulblaxes. Dem buggers.
If I don't spray them, I'll often just go toe-to-toe with them captainwise. Or start off with some captains and then finish it off with reds.
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaI usually just spray them.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I try to avoid them, and break out the Spray if that doesn't work.
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.I have a fight-everyone policy (Unless I'm speedrunning in the overworld and have to just run past everything, though even during speedruns in caves I fight and collect everything even when I have over 10000 Pokos.).
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I only fight things when they're directly in my way. (Or I'm in a cave.)
Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite.
Considering how things have been progressing, I think the third level of the original Pikmin should be the first of Pikmin 3.
