Well, it didn't work. I had to use a different e-mail address but I created a new account. Don't know if this means my old one will ever be restored but I at least remember some of the accounts I followed. I just wish I knew why this happened but it isn't a total loss.

And now my old account has been restored. Complete with my history and everything. I'm glad but I'm not sure if I should keep the new account or not.

So I was stopping by to say that Deviantart decided to follow Tumblrs lead in purging R18 content and also will remove fetishes in general.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_20230906_174334.png

Deviantart has been banning numerous artists for over a month, even when the art itself isn’t even a fetish/sexual/etc up to this point, and as the crappy Bi Partisan Bill KOSA is showing itself to be a threat to the internet.

Expect Deviantart to change its name to Vanillaart soon.

Edit: Honestly I wasn’t sure of where else to post this since I can find a Deviantart thread, and the porn purge is even worse than Tumblrs which at least targeted JUST the art because they straight up ban accounts for policies they hadn’t even enacted yet.

So, anything that is not paywalled vanilla porn? Here I thought they allowed it to an extent last year.

In that way Tumblr actually gives people more options than Deviantart with the policy enactment.

I knew KOSA was crap the second I heard "for the children." What are the specifics? Is it trying to ban "underage" art? (I put it in quotes because they're including aged-up characters, which is just more stupidity)

They should've known this was stupid. If there's one thing the entire Internet is guaranteed to unite to protect, it's their porn.

Not to mention that these kind of policies tend to suck at telling what actually breaks the rules or not. Watch people get banned for drawing something where one or two people in the background are barefoot or something.

I’ve complained plenty about the fetish stuff, but what people really want is to be able to block it, and there wasn’t a tag blocker until the site had already gone to shit.

I am wondering if KOSA will actually go through. Evidently it was originally proposed February of last year but didn't go anywhere wand had to be reintroduced May this year.

It’s more likely to go through this year because a lot of Democrats are supporting it, including Biden himself.

Even the LGBT+ organizations that have been against it in the past have been quiet, to the point those who cover it have been making note of them doing so.

AKA KOSA is MORE likely to pass this time despite being just as bad as it was before, as Democrats have bought into it.

And the people who have been the most in opposition to it are, unsurprisingly, kids.

[up][up][up] What the internet needs is a blocker on the user side. I'm sure there's already all sorts of child protections add-ons and so on out there, make some of those mandatory for children. Part of the beauty of the internet is being able to personalize the experience; regulating the sites themselves is doing it backwards.

Yeah, the more I think of it, the more I like the idea. Hire some software company to make a child protection app/mod/add-on that can work on any platform. Every parent downloads it, their kids get blocked from seeing anything troublesome, and the parents can add extra things to the filter (maybe not remove them, though?). Include a password bypass.

Enforcement would likely be impossible, but maybe not even necessary. The point would be to treat it as something the parents are responsible instead of everyone else.

[up][up] They've been trying to pass bills like this for years now. Usually the specific bills get killed, but then they try again with a different one soon.

[up] All these bills have been bipartisan. I don't actually know if this one is better or worse, because the only thing I've seen so far is the same "protect the kids" bullshit. What makes this one different?

All it takes is one time for it to pass. COPPA was a bad internet bill that did nothing to solve the problem and just made it harder for people.

It passed. That’s all it takes. Just once, and when it does removing it will be impossible.

[up] age restrictions, having to use ID to verify your age, the erasure of LGBT+ content from the internet being the goal(Heritage Foundation and it’s creator Marsha Blackburn have said as such), the idea it will counter “misinformation” by the Democrats when it gives the GOP the power to erase everything they don’t like to “protect the kids”.

This is a ESPECIALLY bad bill.

Why are the LGBT groups not doing anything? Is it just slipping by their radar at the moment? I only started seeing stuff about it a couple weeks ago.

The next hearing/vote about it might be this month. No exact date yet. That is if they don’t do it next month since they specified Fall.

About the internet uniting: we were a lot less divided during the times of SOPA and PIPA. That's why they died when the internet counterattacked. In a post-2016 world, however, when the internet rallied to try to stop Net Neutrality from being repealed, Ajit Pai said, "Tough shit." and repealed it anyway. If the government wants this to happen, an internet rally alone won't cut it anymore. If you don't want to see this happen, write to your Congressperson and let them know. If they don't listen, vote accordingly.

Also pray that states like California write their own laws that make doing this a pain for other states and companies as well.

A big part of why Net Neutrality being repealed never resulted in what the GOP and their toadies like Ajit sought was because California wrote Net Neutrality into Law there, and trying to oppose it as a result was too much of a hassle and impractical even for the corporations.

Though Ajit definitely likes to pretend on Twitter nothing happened exactly like he said it would and blocks people who criticize him
