Who plays?

I need a new copy of Supernova, since I lost mine. What a shame. DOLL is one of my favorite songs.

Red Zone is sadly a letdown.

I used to play a lot in middle school. I stopped and became out of shape...Now I can barely finish a full game on standard...I should fix that. Not like I do much else. I may as well get exercise of some sort....

My mat is old. Like...5 years old. I am surprised it still works.

I had a pad that I used in fifth grade on the original game (which I was pathetic at, but I didn't care). I dragged it out again in tenth grade and it worked perfectly until I accidentally tore a hole in it with my shoe.

Yes, I play the home version wearing shoes.

My mother played it with heels on. I am still shocked it works...shocked...It's survived stampings and heels and moves and...

im starting to come to the conclusion that using a dancepad on carpet without velcro leads to a whole lot of slipping fails

Yeah, but the only other option is a metal pad...

Yup, I play all the time. Been playing since 2001. I play almost entirely in the arcade now, since I've owned a couple soft pads and not one of them can stand up to the test of me playing on Heavy/Expert. I had the chance to play on a Cobalt Flux a couple times, which is quite good, but it somehow still feels awkward because I'm too used to arcade pads.

Is anybody else here on Zenius-I-Vanisher.com or DDRecall?

I did on the Xbox 1. I have my $100 pads. The 360? Not so much.

Lately I've been trying to play Dance Dance Revolution without shoes.

Actually, I've been playing more In The Groove than DDR. I leave DDR for the arcade, probably because I never see In The Groove in one.

I played a few weeks ago. I passed Daikenkai Oni doubles, which I've only passed two or three times before, so I was happy.

If you can help me get Sunnyvale Golfland to remove their stupid DDR X machine and replace it with an older cab, I'd be happy to get back into DDR.

Why did I not make this thread?

Yes. I play DDR. It's basically the only physical activity I can claim talent with. I haven't been playing much lately, though. Back home I have Max, Max 2, Extreme, Extreme 2, Supernova, X, and Hottest Party.

Some of the newer ones kinda suck.

Anyway, I can play most songs on Heavy. It's usually enough to impress people I know, but I can't keep up with people who only get A ranks on a bad day. Pretty analogous to Smash Bros. come to think of it.

There is a Pink Gorilla that has an arcade here. I should go play it more often.

Have any of you seen videos of players doing stuff like this?

It looks really cool, and I like both dancing and DDR-ing, but I'm unsure I could put the two together like that. I'd like to learn, in any case.

I used to play when I had a PS 2, specifically, I owned Max 2 and Extreme 2.

I tried Hottest Party at a friend's house and I was thoroughly disappointed. Coldplay? Lady Gaga? I'm not trying to bash mainstream music here, but shit, it's HORRIBLE to dance to. Too slow, too many off-beat steps trying to match instruments in the song. Fail fail fail. :(

To remedy this, I stole my hubby's 360 DDR mat with the plans to buy a game that doesn't suck as much for the 360. Then I tried to plug the mat in to test it, and I can't figure out what do to with it. The adapter on it is like...circular...I don't have a socket of that shape anywhere on the Xbox. I do not understand what I'm supposed to do with it! Buy an adapter? What kind of adapter? ARGH. (I have an Elite console and a Mad Catz mat, btw >.>)

^^Freestyle! I'd love to do it, but it takes lots and lots of practice.

My projected freestyle song would be Heaven is a '57 Metallic Gray.

I actually know that guy.

DDR freestyling used to be popular; now all every top-class player ever wants to do is do perfect attack. :(

Then again DDR isn't really suited for freestyling; Para Para Paradise and Dance ManiaX on Center mode are more suited for that.

We should totally do a TV Tropes freestyle tournament.

Today I perfect attacked though. My best score today was 28 greats on Paranoia Eternal.

By the way, A-jay is totally my favorite freestyler.

Poll: how do you guys do certain step patterns? Like a typical crossover:

< v >

I would do that L R L. I alternate feet on every typical crossover pattern, even for tricky ones like

< v ^ < > v <

(L R L R L R L) but usually I'll double step for arcs. So I'll do

< v > ^

like L R R L. Sometimes I make exceptions on charts that "expect" me to arc, though, like Brilliant 2 U Orchestra Mix oni and Cartoon Heroes heavy.

On some charts I do really idiosyncratic things, though. I double-step some of the 16ths on Leading Cyber and cross over some others. And in one part of SP Trip Machine I throw in a step on the center of the pad (The pattern's something like > v < v _ < ^ > < v >, and I start with the right foot and step again during the pause to set myself up for the Afronova walk).

I'm beginning to alternate feet more on some jacks, though that's usually when I play doubles (I first really started doing it on Exotic Ethnic doubles heavy where it helped me keep my balance).

[up]I would love to help ya but I dont think I can explain what I do without thinking.

Also is it considered bad form to facepalm at people who return to the center of the pad after every beat?

I did it when I started out, so when I see somebody else do it I just use it as an opportunity to put on my teacher hat and show them how it's done.
