Or teleport people, or swap their hearts...

Or, Jinbe could just submerge fruit users in some water...

Or people with scouting abilities like Robin or Perona, were they present, could've understood why Sanji's doing what he's doing...

The job's being done, but it's not carried out by the right people. We can consider Brook and Pedro to be the scouts in this case, and I guess we can count Chopper and Carrot too if the Mirror World could work as surveillance. But yep, Robin's eyes and ears would have been perfect.

But that wouldn't evenly distribute Straw Hat screentime from a meta standpoint.

Almost forgot about Chopper and Carrot. They could use the mirror world to also play havoc with Big Mom in unexpected ways.

So it dawns on me:

Luffy has fought Ussop, and now he's about to fight Sanji, but he's still never had a serious fight with Zoro.

Kinda funny.

Didn't they fight on Whiskey Peak?

Serious Fight.

That was really more played for laughs what with them beating up the Baroque Works agents who tried to interfere, and then Nami somehow knocking both of them out with ease despite them both being far stronger then her.

Was Played for Laughs, though. Luffy was angry Zoro was beating up people who fed them, they were really bounty hunters.

Luffy directly fought Franky too, back at Water 7.

Ah okay, my bad then.

In my defense, it's been like 10 years since I last saw that fight. tongue

[up][up]

That's different. Franky wasn't really part of the crew back then.

So what exactly comes of the current conflict, you think?

Luffy falls for Sanji's act and gets disheartened, loses either directly to Sanji or gets ganged up on by the rest of the Vinsmokes, gets a pep talk/recovery period while the Chopper and Brook teams do their things, then crashes the wedding, saves Sanji, beats Judge, throws shade at Big Mom, and gets the hell out of there with Big Mom's forces in pursuit. Also, Jinbei helps them either at or after the wedding, Pekoms is revealed alive, and Capone and Big Mom reappear in later arcs.

I get the impression that the Totland arc is one of those that will descend into complete anarchy. After all, we have:

  • The Fishman Island treasure that's rigged to explode
  • Zeus and Prometheus potentially being sent out to avenge Cracker's defeat
  • Linlin's "cravings" that could kick in at any time with no warning
  • Sanji's wrist bracelets that are rigged to explode
  • Chopper and Carrot still running around the Mirror World with Brรปlรฉe in pursuit
  • A whole bunch of Homies reluctantly under Nami's beck and call
  • Luffy being Luffy

Just wondering what will be the spark to cause the whole thing to blow up.

Late, but I have to say that I liked LSBK's idea of Sanji doing something extremely un-Sanji, like kicking Nami or fighting with his hands, to send a secret message that he's not defecting willingly.

I am picturing the Straw Hat pirates being pursued by Prometheus and Zeus...and Luffy being Luffy, he probably runs towards the site where the wedding is being held.

Luffy has to get that he's not defecting willingly. As others have said in this thread, this is the third time we've been through this plot (though the first with a male Straw Hat).

What's interesting to me is that with Nami and Robin, the story let us believe that they might actually be traitors - we didn't get their backstories and motives until after they had committed their betrayals. On the flipside, Luffy did not fall for their acts at all. He had some doubts with Robin, but never acknowledged her as an enemy throughout that incident.

This time around, we as readers were never given the opportunity to doubt Sanji, as his backstory came up pretty much right as soon as this plotline started. I wonder if the "Luffy doesn't buy it" thing will be flipped too, since Oda hasn't touched this type of dramatic irony yet.

I really love that Sanji turned Pudding down to stay with the crew until he was blackmailed. Everyone remembers the sexual harassment scene at Punk Hazard, but for me an arguable even lower point was when he said at Fishman Island that he wanted to quit the crew to stay there and have mermaid orgies. I'm glad he's past that, errm, phase...

I'm sure Sanji didn't really mean it when he said he'd rather stay with the mermaids than with the crew. That was just his penis speaking uninhibited; his head would have stopped him if he ever actually had to make that decision.

Yeah, it's like when he puts razor blades in Zoro's lunch. If you take everything characters say during gags seriously, they become pretty different. :P
