Good morning, Lady Jame. You slept well, I hope?

Ah, not so bad — and yourself, Youmu?

Strange dreams, though.

I did, milady, five long hours. I've not slept for so long in nearly a decade. My own dreams were... nothing out of the ordinary, although I daresay many of my ordinary dreams would seem strange to a human.

They might, at that. I'm not very shockable, though, and not quite human neither.

I was in the Master's Hall again, with all the green-veined marble and the flayed Arrin-ken pelts for rugs, with their burned eyeholes where Keral blinded them with hot coals before killing them. I had a torch, burning smokily and red, and I was trying to light the death banners and give them to the pyre, rather than be eaten in the end by the Master's hunger, but blood was seeping from the fabric and making them too wet to burn, and the blood was slowly putting out the torch, and the whole place going dark ...

Ah, you can tell I'm awake by the cheery conversation.

Fish? I'm up for it. Especially if they're nice 'n fresh.

I will take some of your fish. I ate not too many days ago, but I suppose it wouldn't harm anything.

I dreamt of being in two places at once. While my human body stayed at the hall of milady Yuyuko, my spirit remained here. Such a thing could never be, of course. My spirit and my body my be separate, but they are still linked. It would be impossible for one to stray too far from the other.

Nay, milady. Such a thing would be like stretching your own body until it was a mile long.

Youmu: "I can never remember my dreams."

Rayman: "Neither can I."

Yuyuko: "I do!"

Youmu: "That's because they're always food dreams."

Spiritia: "I saw someone in my dream I haven't met. Red hair, red eyes, a sword..."

Samus: "You mean Komachi?"

Spiritia: "No, not her. Besides, that's a scythe."

Well, perhaps that's why you're doing it in dreams, because it wouldn't work well when awake.

I keep returning to unfinished business in my dreams. And things where I know people have been inside my head, doing stuff. Erasing things. Hiding things. There's still a lot between the ages of seven and seventeen that is gone, no matter what I try; and Rawneth has been in there too, damn her, damn the worm in the weave.

The enemies I have left are the powerful ones.

I don't recall if I've ever dreamt of being in two places before. The last time I slept, I had two dreams. One of them, I shall not recount, but the second was utterly absurd. I dreamt that Lady Yuyuko had seen fit to eat my phantom half, for some reason. Such a strange thing. Milady laughed so hard when I told her that I feared she might die all over again!

Who are you talking about, Freudia? Me?

(to Youmu) Lady Yuyuma does like to eat, does she not? And to cater to her guests.

Indeed, Lady Yuyuko is renowned all over Gensokyo as a gracious host and masterful entertainer. I'm sure that while you were there, she boasted of the skill of her chefs. Those spirits were some of Gensokyo's finest chefs, in life. And did you get a chance to see the Prismriver sisters perform? Their musical talents are legendary.

Do shinigami ever sleep, Komachi-sama?

I know that spirits sometimes sleep, although they need not, and we of the Konpaku clan need only sleep a few hours each month, although my father was quite fond of his daily naps.

No, never. Our ties with our human body was cut ages ago and the mind needs no longer struggle with arranging the memories of the past. Though, sometimes when I sit under a tree, relaxing, the mind wanders down Memory Lane.

I didn't see the sisters perform, but I did try the food; even to this Picky Eater, it was excellent. And food really bothers me; bad childhood memories. It's why I forget to eat.
