I'm having trouble installing a game made for Windows 95 (Dungeon Keeper Gold if you're interested) on Windows 7, and Compatibility mode isn't working. Any advice?

Virtual Machines. Get one. Microsoft Virtual PC comes in every Windows operating system and is not hard to get.

I can't do that without buying Windows 7 Professional... is there any method that doesn't require me to spend £120?

@Eric: "Validation Required". Link leads to this page essentially detailing that a validated version of Windoes is required to download or install some programs, probably VPC among them.

Contrast what I offered: free as in beer and as in speech.

↑↑Daemon Tools et al do not emulate a Windows (or other) environment, they just load the contents of the install CD to/from ISO image files to be treated as individual files or as a whole. It would require the OP to repartition and install Windows 95 alongside her current install, that if her hardware supports it.

Install the DOS version in DOS Box. Worked for me.

I downloaded VPC 2007 and it didn't require any validation.

The Dosbox solution is probably better though. Virtual Machines only work well for games that don't require any sort of 3D acceleration. Also with virtual machines you need the CD of the actual OS you're going to install (though.... you can get it legally...)
