Hurray, I am not old! Still, I shall restrain from replacing four thousand words with a few pictures, wouldn't want to be accused of subtlety.

Update on the English teacher: He is apparently convinced we should start learning Indian-accented English due to their having officially adopted the language and outnumbering all other anglophone countries combined.

This from a guy whose accent is all over the place: He starts sounding as British as you or me (I realize that might be a bad example), but slides into, well, what a French speaker sounds laïke when zey spike ingliche, and vice versa. It's hilarious.

I've never heard Norwegian-accented English. I have cousins there and I've never noticed anything other than "welp, shurr ain't 'murrican" (though when they speak Norwegian it's strange how some words just jump out as sounding English).

New support for my 40K-Marvel shared universe theory. Behold, the first Obliterator!

I thought this was Parsee.

Who's the... thing... behind Suika?

It seems the English teacher has sworn to drive me to gibbering madness before the year is out. Today he informed us that part of the test would be on phonetics, those Tzeentchian runes which seem to dance and shimmer before your very eyes, changing the meanings of words and of names as they do. Except of course he persists in using the British version (buh nah nah vs buh non-er), resulting in my cringing every time he opened his mouth, not helped by his excruciating rendition of a Quebecoisianish accent to demonstrate the power of phonetic writing.

Huh. More news on Path of the Renegade.

The three archons allied against Vect are Yllithian of the White Flames, Xelian of the Blades of Desire, and Kraillach of the Realm Eternal. All three are descended from former noble houses, before Vect established his "grubby meritocracy", that managed to become archons in the ensuing chaos.

All of them hate Vect with a passion, but they're not particularly fond of each other.

Kraillach is interesting. He was actually alive when Vect took control of the eternal city six millenia ago, and remembers it vividly despite only being a child at the time.

Anyway, their plan, as I mentioned last time I believe, is to resurrect one of Vect's more successful rivals in ages past. To do this, they require an exodite worldsinger, since a "pure soul" is needed, and you're not gonna find that in Commorragh.

Oh, and the crone Yllithian beheaded? Her head is apparently still alive. It's been given to a haemonculus Yllithian is cooperating with.

Obviously not that successful if Vect took over.

Sorry, misspelling, meant to say "daidarabochi". It literally means giant, and is just that. Legend has he was so big that he could lift mountains and his footprints created lakes.

[up] I see. Did you like it?

And now, I've finished Path of the Renegade. Well, I finished it last night more like. I liked it. Unlike Sullen, I am not very good at judging a book's quality, only the extent to which I enjoyed it.

Here be spoilers, if it wasn't obvious enough:

Anyway, Yllithian's plot succeeded, in a fashion. El'Uriaq, the emperor of Shaa-Dom, Vect's long dead rival, was revived. Unfortunately, it didn't quite work out as our dear archon would have liked.

See, in theory, the resurrection would have worked... but it's implied that ordinarilynote  the process would have taken quite a while. But said resurrection happened virtually instantly.

Turns out, a daemon from beyond the veil had decided it wanted in on the fun. So, he hastened the process, possessing El'Uriaq's restored body. The revived tyrant instantly proves himself an immensely charming and nice guy, actually hugging Yllithian as the first thing of his new life. Well, not really nice, he's pretty brutal. He then arranges for the death of the other archon, Xelian, behind the scenesnote .

Which leaves Yllithian as the last archon alive of the three. He understandably is a bit fearful.

The renegade of the book, Sindiel, is not my favourite character, though he does develop somewhat, which I like. Ultimately, he actually does somewhat heroic towards the end, or tries to at any rate.

It all culminates at a party a few months later where El'Uriaq has gathered all the people who've pledged their support against Vect, a conspirator's banquet, so to speak. Now here, on Bellathonis' urging, Yllithian presents the head of Angevere to El'Uriaq. The dark eldar part of him is actually touched by the gesture, and the daemon is excited of getting the last of El'Uriaq's handmaidens back when he ruled Shaa-Dom.

Now, the worldsinger is also present. With the help of Angevere, she releases the Glass Plague upon those present. The Glass Plague, for those you don't know, being a virus created by a deranged sculptor that actually turns your flesh into a crystalline glass. The Dark Eldar are terrified of it, since it leaves nothing to be revived from. Ergo, true death. Yllithian is able to escape, by the way.

Anyhow, everyone present, barring Angevere and the worldsinger, are crystallized. Sindiel, who's now a dracon by the way, then swoops in and flees Commorragh with her.

The daemon is still alive by the way, encased in crystal but still. That doesn't last as Bellathonis the haemonculus decides to poke his head in as well. Picking with him Angevere, he places a dark gate in front of statue before leaving. As the daemon is destroyed, everything shakes, all of Commorragh, heralding the beginning of the Dysjunction.

I think there was a line in the Elar codex about a Dark Eldar who surrendered to them and is now part of their army. Don't think it was him though.

I doubt it's him, since Sindiel has expressed distaste for the Path of the Warrior in the past. Also, note that the reason he's a renegade is because he was originally of a craftworld, before going over to the dark kin.

And now he's bounced back, I guess? I think it's more likely he's become a corsair though. Corsairs are cool.

Also, I found this gem in the sequel, Path of the Incubus.

Vect still lves, you know he does. When the universe ends Vect will still be alive in the nothingness that comes after, floating in an unbreachable bubble of his own deviousness and sense of self-satisfaction.

And now I have finished the Path of the Incubus. Where the end of the Path of the Renegade saw the start of the Dysjunction, Pot I ends with it's end.

The plot is essentially the chaos that ensued following the events of the last book, but let me see if I can explain it for you.

Spoilers:

Now, as I mentioned previously, Yllithian slipped away at the end of the last book. Turns out, he still suffered from the Glass Plague, even if it moved slower on him since he fled. His prt of the story starts with him slowly shambling through Commorragh while he's crystallizing. Luckily, Bellathonis swoops in to save the day.

Now, the thing with Path of the Incubus is that well, the Incubus is very much central to the story here. Everyone else is basically doing their best to get out of this situation alive. Yllithian and another archon take on the minions of Nurgle close to the end. Meanwhile, Morr the incubus and a harlequin simply called Motley foil a Tzeentchian plot while simultaneously bringing an end to the Dysjunction. So... {{two lines, no waiting}} is in effect. There are two B plots and one A plot.

Fun read... I'm not sure if I like it better than the first on though...

I can say this though, Morr is a badass. He fights with Drazhar for a while if you know who that is. He loses yes, but hey... it's Drazhar, he's undefeated. Morr still puts up a good fight though.

Also, there's this.

"Because the eldar race is more than just the sum of it's parts. After the Fall three completely different societies emerged from the wreckage of what came before: Commorragh, the craftworlds and the maiden worlds. Each of them has preserved some part of what was lost - yes, even Commorragh as much as many would wish to deny it. Each branch has prospered in it's own way, or at least not collapsed totally, over all the centuries since the Fall and that tells you something in it's own right - these are stable societies. Each has learned to adapt to a terrible new universe that has no rightful place for them in it."

"So you believe that each should be preserved," Morr grunted. "How very noble of you."

"Oh, it extends beyond mere preservation, my dear cynical friend. There is a fatal flaw present in all three of our societies - all of them look only inward and believe themselves to possess the one, true path forward. If they plan for the future at all it's only with their own people in mind and most can't even think that far. Survival has become the absolute watchword of the eldar race, a sort of seige mentality that has ruled over us for the last hundred centuries. It's leading to stagnation, a polar opposite from the excess that brought forth She Who Thirsts, and so now instead of entropy we fall prey to stasis; a slow, cold death."

"Not everyone thinks that way of course, there are some in each generation that look up from the mire created by their forefathers and glimpse the stars again. We can still learn from one another, support one another, a shred of hope still exists."

Well, the Tzeentchian agent present in this book got unceremoniously killed off by the exodite world spirit, just like how the Nurglite plague marines failed miserably at their plans thanks to the actions of Yllithian.

Also, I'm glad btw. The harlequin in the book, Motley, was able to twist the schemes of the Tzeentchi warlock so that they benefited all three Eldar groups instead of the Ruinous powers.

  • Commorragh's dysjunction was ended.
  • The exodite world spirit was pacified.
  • Craftworld Biel-Tan was able to rid itself of a corrupt warlock.

And that, ladies and gentlemen of the Board of Education, is why our students will forever lag behind Japan's, until we too build our own Edutronnyleejones.

Speaking of learnerizing things, my weekly suffering update. In this man's demented mind, desert and dessert are pronounced no differently from each other, slough sounds like a slow-moving South American mammal, and hiccough is a medical condition that causes muddled vision in subjects when read, because he insists that's how "hiccup" is spelled.

Oh, and evidently compensating for adding "r"s to the end of every word ending in "a", it turns out the Steel Judicators are in fact descended from a Traitor Legion more correctly known as the Ion Warriors.

It's like the guy has no concept or tolerance of people speaking the same language differently than him.
