[up][up] Thank you Flanker.

[up]Yes! Frighten that bastard Kappa! Was that a Metal Slug reference btw? Yea, it is.

Also, I got FF 13-2 yesterday, I played it for about hour-and-a-half. It's not bad from what I've seen. I haven't quite gotten the hang of the combat system, but that's because it requires me to change tactics on the fly at times, which is at odds with my usual strategy of button-mashing.

Also, several of the buttons are different from what I'm used to, so Damn You, Muscle Memory! is in effect. I must say however, Square Enix does cutscenes very well.

The Remilia bazooka definitely has its merits. XD I shall start planning for its inclusion.

Exterminatus is always justified, if only on the grounds of "don't let the Tyranids take it".

... I got a newletter regarding startups shaking up established customs. I think I last heard the term back when people were all excited about the possibilities of this "Inter-net" thing.

Touhou 14.3: Impossible Spell Card revealed!

A spin-off of Double Dealing Character, the main character is the amanojaku Seija Kijin (stage 5 boss of DDC), who apparently will be equipped with a lot of different magical tools to handle difficult spell cards.

How the hell did she get a hold of a bullet-clearing camera? Did Aya just get lazy one day and hire Seija to get all the pictures for her?

Touhou 14.4: Delegation of Annoying Task

So it turns out the worst part of getting teeth yanked out isn't the actual yanking (although getting your gums repeatedly stabbed and having a power tool in your mouth that seems to be sending bone shards every which way while your tongue desperately tries to avoid the same fate, accompanied by the dentist's heartfelt profanities is a close second), it's the aftermath. The drilling itself only took fifteen minutes (though it felt longer), the part where a quarter of your face is nearly paralyzed and you can't yawn, chew or open your mouth without something going pop in your jawbone (I suspect my cheek and gums have been stitched together) has been lasting ever since.

I was put under before I had my jaws drilled, so I didn't experience the actual process.

The following month was annoying though. No hard/solid food, had to wash out my mouth extremely thoughly to make sure there wasn't anything in the stitched up gaps where my teeth used to be so my gums wouldn't rot, not being able to speak, a constant feeling that there should be something else there, ect.

^ I only had one, so maybe that's why it's not as severe.

Brothers! Hear now my tale, a saga of bloodshed, hardship and tears.

Know first the reason: My sister needed to renew her US passport, which can apparently only be done in a US consulate. There used to be one here, but for whatever reason they shut it down and all administrative dealings happen in Marseille, six hours away by car (four going by the GPS, an ever-optimistic fellow we suspect of drinking). We Could Have Avoided All That Is About To Follow, except that the only available train arrived ten minutes before the appointment, and the train station thity minutes away. Thus it was that she, my mother and I (the only other available person with a driver's licence) were to leave for the city, get the passport renewed, and get back, all in time for dinner. Sinister disembodied laughter was heard.

Know also that Marseille has a not entirely undeserved reputation for violence. Take the more cynical views of Detroit as an urban hellhole, add Mexico's drug problems and any southern state's less than enlightened views on illegal immigrants and you have a good idea of the worse neighborhoods (admittedly the immigration problem was worse in the past, or at least doesn't get talked about as much) (they do have a historic sports rivalry with the Parisians, which redeems them somewhat). Fortunately these weren't the places we were going; being on governement business, we were in the aesthetically unchallenged part of town.

Bright the sun was not when I left home, for it was four in the morning when awakened and half an hour later when we left. On the radio we heard foreboding tidings: the seventh man to be shot down in gang violence this year, and guess where it happened. As we switched drivers every few hours, I was privileged to see the sun rising, though a more prosaic man would have called it getting sun in one's eye's. This was a minor problem compared to the high winds that continuously blasted large sections of the road, especially while passing a long line of trucks at high speed.

But eventually we made it alive into the city itself, where we found nearly every car owner of Marseille waiting for us to join the traffic jam. At this point we had but one hour to find parking, find the consulate, and get to the appointment. Which brings me to the bloodshed.

Sadly, the one shanking we witnessed was neither intended nor successful: during a routine food-sharing operation, my knife kept going and slashed me right across the base of my finger, which was when we discovered the car did not actually contain a first-aid kitnote . We made do with bottled water, kleenex and brute force to ward off Nurgle until finding a pharmacy (it happened during the traffic jam, as good a way as any to relieve boredom). And after the pharmacy, my mother took the wise precaution of buying a first aid kit for the car. It's a shame that it got left behind at the consulate though.

So, we finally arrived, a mere two hours later than expected, healed the wounded, acquired maps, realized they were not precise enough, though we managed to get directions from a pair of cops. In the end we found the consulate almost by accident, tucked away in a corner, on a plaza little more than a glorified sidewalk, the flag hanging limply like a sodden dishrag, with mere minutes to spare.

After they went through the embassy (I wasn't part of the group), we found that Tzeentch was not thinking only of us: we were in the parking when we heard thumping noises from the elevator. It turns out some other people had gotten stuck in the elevator, though we left as the technician arrived.

Here ends the interesting part of my saga, as it is difficult to convey eight hours of scenery in readable form. Tzeentch had his revenge upon us, by making my mother decide not to take the highway but the regular roads, which not only looked straight on the map but were less likely to contain trucks, and continuously change her mind as to which way to go. It is true that there were few trucks on the way, mostly because they don't take mountain roads. It was after the second such twisting ordeal that she decided to get back to the highway as fast as possible, only declaring that she would not drive at night or where there were trucks. So it was that I had the rare privilege (rare for a denizen of the sublevels such as myself who views the Daystar with suspicion) of seeing both sunrise and sunset on the same day, though again this involved having the sun in my eyes both ways.

Thus did we safely arrive, again two hours late, and I did collapse with relief.

So you're from Toulouse then... good to know.

Certain parts of the tale remind me of China, mainly the part about the traffic jams. I'm glad you were able to return home in time however.

Edit: This thread popped up on my watchlist just now because of my own post. An odd experience, compared to today's otherwise mundane ones.

Words can not describe the happiness I feel.
