I think the coolest feature that impresses me about the 3Ds is the Augmented Reality portion  *

. Seriously, I'm really hoping that this catches on and becomes a new standard for a couple video games, like Nintendogs, because that would make Dennou Coil the most awesome Defictionalization ever.

Lengthy Iwata Q&A.

(I'm disappointed, if not surprised, that so many commentators didn't take the time to read the whole thing.)

Something about the graphics seems...uneven. Like the deformed child of a PS 3 and an N64.

His answer to the question about piracy was pretty impressive, IMO.

In fact, Nintendo DS software could not make it to the hit software sales chart in the country for sometime. However, when we launched the Nintendo DS software "Art Academy" in Europe this summer, which shows you how to draw pictures, it was ranked No. 1 on the software sales chart covering all the video game platforms in Spain. If one software can attract many people and can become a social topic, that software can sell regardless of piracy.

DSiWare games like Art Academy can't be pirated. That may have something to do with it.

You're not taking into account that his comment meant games that could be pirated yet still sold. New Super Mario Bros Wii is high on download ROM lists, but still is a hit.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

Yes, and the game he listed as an example was not pirated. It can't be pirated.

Are you trying to completely evade the point of what he was saying by harping on a technicality?

I don't think he's talking about the D Si Ware Art Academy but the DS game Art Academy. They are separate.

and given the positive reactions since E3, which give us the indication on how the public are likely to appreciate the value of Nintendo 3DS if they can have hands-on experiences and, above all, by taking other factors into careful consideration, we have concluded that we should propose this price point to our consumers.

So I guess the Nintendo 3DS really will print money for them. Oh well, it's already got a firm grasp on my wallet and it's not letting go soon.

I finally found the context of the "3DS to recharge more often" quote:

...Not to change the subject, but I have a concern that Nintendo 3DS, with such high specs, may run out of the battery during Street Pass communications. When I turned on my Nintendo DS one morning and kept it on until I returned home that day in order to enjoy the Tag Mode communication of "Dragon Quest IX", it run out of battery and my data was lost. Are you planning to do anything with Nintendo 3DS in this regard?
As for the battery, it is inevitable that Nintendo 3DS will be a device which requires more frequent recharging than Nintendo DS. This is why we are going to include the cradle, which is a dedicated battery charger. Perhaps we may need to dispatch to our consumers a message, something like, "Please place your Nintendo 3DS on the cradle as soon as you return home with it."

The 3DS excites me greatly! Very much so... I mean, it's got the power, the potential, and the software supporting it... and it looks really nice too! The specs are insane, as well! Can't wait.

I've developed a lot of faith in Nintendo, and it was a weird thing to happen since I'd previously liked Sony best. Well, it was a little thing called Corporate Policy that made that change, haha. Although I'm still really mostly equal in my love for the games...

@Meophist: Well, that possibly means the battery will less of an issue in the west, because I don't see Cross Pass being as popular outside of Japan, so most people will turn it off.

I hope it'll take off, actually. I'm actually kinda hoping it's going to be difficult to turn it off.

Also, Crosspass only runs while the 3DS is on, doesn't it?

They might make the default "off" mode actually a sleep mode though.

@Meophist: Even with the Wii you can turn it completely off, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same with the 3DS.
