This would be a great game for cosmetic DLC, too. It has the same basic dynamic as TF 2 in that you'd be showing off to your teammates and enemies, with the added bonus that you could actually see what you're wearing in normal gameplay.

Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.

Tournament has been fantastic so far. Was suprised at how badly MUFC lost those team fights late last game. If Antimage hadn't died alone they would have had a shot.

All in all, this has been great so far. Really looking forward to the game.

And I wouldn't be suprised to see them copy Lo L style skins. Good moneymaking tactic, vanity items.

[up] I'd prefer just regular skins. I've seen what League of Legends offers, and they're pretty damn nice.

Personally, the tournament seems incredibly lackluster. When we have so many companies doing their best to re-hash the old MOBA formula it seems like DOTA 2 is pretty much... stuck where DOTA 1 was.

[up] So i'm assuming that's not counting the huge amount of community features that it's adding, along with the fact that the original DOTA gameplay is near perfect already?

[up] That is assuming entirely the gameplay format. Because the original DOTA had so many features that locked new players out due to punishing gameplay and the fact that you need to know all of the potential enemy Heroes that are being used to even grasp what you are meant or aren't meant to do. Ultimately, it is up do debate in regards to "DOTA gameplay is near perfect already", especially if competitors have different features geared towards making the overall game more interesting (Character progression, Runes & Masteries, Boss monsters, etc...). Heroes Of Newerth followed the DOTA 1 format, and it dragged them down. League Of Legends decided to open the way more to new players, and right now it's taking them to great heights. Staying true to the original DOTA formula might just doom DOTA 2

what he said. I can safely say the major reason I adore Lo L is because its geared towards someone like me who has no intention of learning every champion flawlessly.

[up][up] Good point. With the huge emphasis on new players this go around though, I think that's far less of a problem. That was Ho N's main problem, and Valve is taking huge steps to prevent that.

[up] As far as I know there was not a single statement on that matter done by Valve or any developer of DOTA 2, but if that is the case then it would be it's saving grace. But that is a big "if". Hell, pretty much everything regarding the game was kept under wraps until pretty much a few months ago. If the characters and skills are all the same, how is it going to be new-player friendly if pretty much all of the Heroes have skills that punish new players who don't know how the game works? On the other hand, how is the game going to fare with other companies doing different content? Talk about Realm Of The Titans and League Of Legends' Dominion. From the videos, the entire game has so far been a rehash of DOTA 1, up to and including items and gear. What is the one different thing that will draw people towards it, when the DOTA brand has been stagnant.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2010/10/13/dota-2-announced-details.aspx If that's not trying to be new player freindly, I don't know what is.

Also, don't forget DOTA 1 is still highly played, definatly outstripping Ho N with no in-built community features whatsoever. You boot up WC 3 and virtually the only thing you see played is DOTA.

DOTA has not been stagnant at all. Just look at all the teams that have been in the Gamescom tourny. It still is a huge game, and DOTA 2 looks like it can be even better, especially with Valves record of service and design.

I played Dota, and while I was probably better then the average player, one thing stop me from trying to improve myself - last hitting (and denying). I'm no good at this timing last hit thing, and that made me no match against people who can.

I know last hitting is a skill and some people tried damn hard to master it, but I think that isn't what the game is about. I know I sounds like a scrub, but yeah. As long as DOTA 2 will have it, I don't think I'm gonna invest much time in it.

It's to be expected from the same company that makes TF2, which has no shortage of voice-acting itself.

I'm disappointed with TV Tropes right now, there's no page for dota 2, so we need one ASAP.

It's apparently DOTA ported wholesale to a proprietary engine with an attempt at a coherent lore for all the characters, so mechanics and balance should be close if not identical. I don't see it warranting more than an extension on the original DOTA pages.

Wouldn't blizzard get a little sensitive about War Craft 3 characters?

Most of the portraits and models are new and done by the new team. Skill animations have been replaced as well despite aspects like delays and Ao E remaining the same. Finally the entire lobby system and lore have been overhauled (even the faction names have been changed). All that said there's precious little left for Blizzard to sue for since the mechanics were mostly player developed.

Unless they want to attack all Aeon Of Strife-type games for infringement but they wouldn't have a strong case there either.

Blizz wouldn't do such a thing.

In other matters, I'm still disappointed with TV Tropes, still no Dota 2 page huh?

[up] I agree with Recon when he said "It's apparently DOTA ported wholesale to a proprietary engine with an attempt at a coherent lore for all the characters, so mechanics and balance should be close if not identical. I don't see it warranting more than an extension on the original DOTA pages."

However, if you don't agree, there is no reason for you not to go and make your own page for it. This is a wiki, the whole point is that anyone can come in and contribute. If you see something missing, fix it.
