And then Rickard was secretly assassinated or imprisoned and no one ever thought about him again.

This isn't necessarily as big as you think it is.

there is no reason for rickert to be killed, but yes, this isn't really that big of a deal. it's an excellent moment for rickert, but on a grand scale, it changes nothing.

@Corr Terek Actually it is. Griffith was seen as someone who never seemed to upset the common man(as Rickert appears to people). Also he was seen as someone who couldn't be struck by anyone no matter who they are. Rickert proves that he could. Quit looking at things from the cynicism angle dude, it's only one aspect of the story and you're over stretching it. If Griffith does retaliate against an attempt which wasn't an attempt on his life it proves he's a child and isn't the great messiah everyone thought he was.

griffith was struck because he let himself be struck. it doesn't really mean much.

If Griffith does retaliate against an attempt which wasn't an attempt on his life it proves he's a child and isn't the great messiah everyone thought he was.

Because Griffith would definitely retaliate publicly. That's certainly something Griffith's known for, alright, being completely unsubtle.

No, if Rickard dies, it'll be a terrible tragic accident, and if the important people remember him at all, they'll see how terribly broken up Griffith is about it.

Don't get me wrong. I think Griffith is going to eventually be revealed as the monster he is. But do you really think that it's going to happen without any input from the main character of the series?

Dude, you're speaking on a causality POV. No one in his kingdom knows what the fuck that is. Unless they did know about it then it is a big deal.

If Griffith allowed himself to be struck, it's because he knows it doesn't matter.

I feel it's irrelevant because there is no reason for Griffith to do anything. the only reason rickert was able to even hit him is because griffith allowed it. at the end of the day, rickert is just one kid who "knows the truth". that's hardly a threat to him and his plans, if he hasn't done anything about guts, why would rickert be killed?

Pretty much, yeah.

You know, I'm now wondering if Guts isn't going to end up with his own fantastical army. He has mermaids as his allies now, and possibly elves to follow. Maybe others?

@Corr Terek That doesn't make any sense because Griffith was indifferent to Rickert slapping him. Why do you keep calling him Rickard? It's Rickert? Also public or stealth Rickert is the only person who has grievances against the so-called messiah. Up till now everyone has loved him and this puts a spin on his perfect world.

...he's not though. Schierke also knows he's full of shit, and by extension, all of Guts' party would know.

I probably read a different translation for Rickard's name. No matter.

It doesn't matter because it's just one person. If you knew someone who was universally loved, even by yourself, and you saw someone haul off and slap them out of the blue, would you really be going "That guy might have a point."

Once again whether Griffith allowed it or not It doesn't change the fact someone doesn't cared for him. They made it public clear and expressed it in public. Your arguments don't make sense.

@Corr Terek Up till now unless the group like the Kushans have shown they're the public's enemy number one enemy then it's clear that something is wrong with Griffith's utopia.

I believe that is the direction the story has been heading in furthering the whole christ/anti-christ thing. guts is the real messiah in that he is a genuinely good person beneath his rough exterior (as opposed to griffith being an awful person beneath his shiny godlike exterior), and is slowly winning people over with his tenacity and courage and showing them that there is another way besides what griffith does.

[up][up]Because one person slapped Griffith in the face? They could be insane, for all the public knows. Or evil. That's definitely going to be the public spin on it.

Again, I ask: if you highly respected and trusted someone who was also universally loved, would you really side with his attacker the first time someone slaps him in the face?

Also, do you really expect Griffith to be revealed as a villain without Guts's involvement?

I just don't see what you're expecting to come of this. It's definitely emotionally satisfying. Griffith's a smug bastard, and it's great to see someone tell him so. But I just don't know what kind of long-term effects you're expecting to come from this.

from the perspective of the average person griffith is pretty much their world's equivalent of jesus. not only is he creating a safe place for people to live but he even manages to subjugate the demonic horrors that were plaguing them under his thumb, which means that pretty much nothing has power over him.

they are not going to be swayed by one person slapping griffith.

If everyone universally loved him why is there someone who doesn't like him? Why did his dream involve walking over people as Rickert said he did to the old Hawks. To the general public the tactics of Griffith's current hawks didn't utilize that. It says he has a lack of compassion for people if he did that to his old band of hawks. To the people at large in his kingdom he is a caring individual which someone who knows of the people in his old band. Not only does it say he's two-faced but that he would easily turn into a tyrant if things weren't the way he wished it.

The band of hawk? The people who comprised the people that helped save him from the king of midland, that saves princess charlotte when she was poisoned in the infiltration to the castle. His current image shows him bringing back souls of the dead and helping those people be remembered by their loved ones. The band of the hawks not being remembered shows a flaw in his person. If he's to be compared to Jesus as you say then even he should know of empathy.

You...do realize that we don't actually think Griffith is the immortal God-Savior of Mankind, right? We're explaining the POV of everyone from the pope on down. They don't know anything about the old Band of the Hawk, and have even less reason to actually listen to Rickard if he tries to explain it to them.

Assuming Griffith even gives him the opportunity, of course.

there is absolutely no reason for anyone to care about what rickert would have to say. in the general public's eyes, griffith is a perfect being who saved them all from a hellish world. they can't possibly understand rickert's feelings , nor do they have any reason to believe him.

@Corr Terek

Dude, there is no getting around questioning the past. Griffith started as a band which even his queen Charlotte knows. Also the people do question things. Not everyone in the Berserkverse is as ignorant of things as you make them out to be.

And if Charlotte was half the proper lady she made herself out to be she wod question the validity of Griffith's loyalty to the band. Stepping over the lives of people is something that a crowd in the Berserkverse don't dismiss. Only crowd of people that did that was in Albion and that place was a total hell hole.

EDIT:

Has anyone in Falconia referred to Griffith as a perfect being?
