Aww, they didn't have the hammy speeches from the expansions? :(
That said, did I smell a Master Of Orion 2 reference there?
This is what I'm talking about

"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntNot exactly the same.
In MOO 2, a lone science station in the middle of nowhere was attacked by a visible enemy.
In SOTS 2, Argos Naval Yards in Mars orbit, the primary human shipyards with a whole fleet present, is attacked by something rather...terrifying.
There are similarities, sure. But there are similaritites with everything.
Wait...is that the real voice acting?
Never Trust A Mouse. What? You think all people who work with comms in real life have beuatiful voices and accents? If you ask me, I think it adds to the authenticity :P
I miss the hammy speeches. That was the best part of the game, no exaggeration. Maybe we'll see some in the actual game.
I'm not exactly thrilled by the notion that this is using the in-game engine though. Honestly, I thought battles were the clunkiest part of the original, and making them take longer to load isn't going to make them less clunky. I tended to auto-resolve most of them, which makes me sad because the developers sounded so proud of them. The battles reminded me of Mo O 3, which is not a compliment. The rest of it reminded of Mo O 2, which is.
What are your specs? The battles load pretty fast for me. Only really big ones take a bit longer.
But pay heed - you have a LOT of ship types and that's a lot of things to load. You can have have hunderds of ship classes after all (assuming you design that many). There's quite literaly over 120 ship sections in-game that you combine. Add to that different weapon combos and additions...and yea. The fewer different ship classes in combat, the faster it loads. Then there's the physics it has to load and let's not forget all the turret tracking and calculations. A single DN has over 100 turrets after all.

I didn't say they took too long to load (well, they took a while but I had a pretty old computer back then). I just said that taking longer to load isn't a good thing, which better graphics presumably would. My problem with the battles had mostly to do with the pacing and the camera. Maybe I was just bad at the game, but the controls felt sluggish, the ships were tiny and hard to tell apart unless you were zoomed in too far to see anything else, and it took too long to get anywhere.
It's the codename "Alpha-Niner" that make me thing it's an homage, tbh.
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntSeriously though, I can't watch this without smiling uncontrollably. Every time!
OUR FEMALES LUST FOR WAR!!!!!
Never Trust A Mouse.Aw, the faux half-scot ship builder dude from SOTS 1 died. Does that mean we'll never have to listen to "Aye, commander. We'll have those ships up in now time" again?
YAAAY!
Also, it seems the Suul'ka engineers went to the "Cthulhu school of ship design", just like Galactic Civilizations' Dread Lords.

@Clarste. You had a problem with battles?
Did you use ships tactics and facing commands? Did you manually target specific section or weapons on enemy ships? Do you use tactical view in combat? With Advanced Command And Control researched, it's really useful, especially if you have ships with longer-ranged weapons, or if there are several combatants fighting.
I really like this one tough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlDCPe2tjFg
EDIT: Yeah, SOTS is full of hommages ;)

What? No comments?
Noooooooooooooooooooope.
Hmmm... Anyone wish to hazard a guess as to whether or not the Icehearts' psionic attack will be made a part of their in-game tactics?
New hammy speech!
The odd part is that this new race is composed of 7 individuals...
Well, seven individuals and whatever minions decided not to turn against them to side with their petulant children.
Angry gets shit done....So, the Suul'ka will be their Horde's Leviathans?
Can anyone explain this line on the trope page?
"A sequel called Sword of the Stars II: The Lords of Winter has been released...in a near-unplayable beta state. Fan backlash is currently (October 29th 2011) working overtime, especially as news comes out that Kerberos has been downplaying or outright lying about the company's difficulties in an attempt to get people to preorder Sword of the Stars 2 and save the company from insolvency."
"The fact that your food can be made into makeshift bombs alarms the Hell out of me, Scrye." - CharlatanIf true, that's kind of sad.
Consider that I really want to play NorthStar, yeah, that's definitely sad...
It seems like they upload beta version onto Steam...kinda like what happens to Dead Island, I think...
