Yeah. Now, you could have a shoutout to Norse mythology — e.g. a starship named after one of the names of Freyja, or something like that — but people don't seem to do that, they make it mean something, they drag in half the pantheon, etc etc.
A brighter future for a darker age. There must be a trope for mythological referencing, right?
Bump. Is there a trope for general mythological references, or is this just it?
Well, there's Theme Naming and What Do You Mean, It's Not Symbolic?...
Yeah, I guess all these just fall into a rather specific type of Theme Naming. I'm not sure we need this page.
Theme Naming already has a number of subtropes split off it. We could rename this one to Norse Myth Theme Naming.
And one of those subtropes is Religious and Mythological Theme Naming. Are there enough Norse examples to account for an entirely new subtrope?
I added a single prop crowner on whether to cut or not here. Feel free to add pros or cons as appropriate.
If Shout-Out is our term for allusion, I don't know why we wouldn't have a page for allusions to a certain mythology.

Okay, unless we suddenly get more votes, I think we can call the crowner. It's been stable for a while.
Then the question is, what to do with the page? Just add a few more links to Theme Naming and the like in the description, or cull some examples?
But there's no consensus to cut. 1.3:1 isn't enough. Clean it up and make it clearer that a shout-out is a one-time thing, and that other examples are probably Theme Naming

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.No, that's what I mean. There's no consensus to cut, and we're not gonna get it. But there's still problems, so we need to do something.
I added a link to Religious and Mythological Theme Naming in the description, but I don't think that's enough.
Attaching clock.
Doesn't Theme naming require it to be more than one? So if just one character goes by the name Odin and nothing else it's not that trope but is still a Shout-Out.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I would think so.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Clock's done. Anyone have any ideas, or should we just lock this?
Crowner is dead-even at 0 after nearly a month. No consensus to cut.
Clean up the page and check wicks to clean them up and we'll lock this up.

...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Well, it has two wicks, one of which is on the page, so that's already done. But the reason the clock was added was because no one could figure out how to fix this. I still say cut it, but that's obviously not going to happen, so unless someone comes up with something I think this needs to get locked as "No consensus reached."
Take a look at it now.
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.Agh, somebody suggested that solution in the second post and we all ignored him. Well, that happens. Seems fine now. Hollering for a lock.
Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
So, I deleted a number of these which were direct uses of Norse mythology and character because a direct use is not a Shout-Out. Now I'm looking at it and I'm thinking "Hang on, symbolic naming and references aren't shout outs either. A Shout-Out is just giving a nod out to something. It doesn't symbolise or represent anything in the work."
So in short: this page has no content, it must die.
