It definitely does if you play brass. At the very least, working out successive powers of the 12'th root of 2 and how certain ones closely resemble fractions helps you not only better understand chords, but how much to compensate for the ones that are a bit out of tune.

The irony for me is, being a music guy, being better at math would probably help me tremendously, especially when it comes to the technological side of things.
