Fighteer, if you're interested in checking it out there's a new episode airing in around ten minutes on Cartoon Network.

Episode just finished here.

Pretty good. Old plot done pretty well. Wonder why Hiccup should ever feel the need to prove himself after killing the giant death machine at the end of the movie and why no one seemed to think that worth bringing up.

Oh, and Hookfang had a magnificent derp moment following a leaf. He's getting pretty funny.

I mean, Toothless knows Hiccup was the one who first approached him, but he probably never knows who fired the net that caused him to crash and thus lose half of his fin.

Death is a companion. We should cherish Death as we cherish Life.

I am not so sure that Toothless DOESN'T know that it was Hiccup who brought him down. After all, the weapon used to do it required the same sort of skill that it took to make Toothless' new tail. And Toothless is smarter than your average bear.

All of which makes this even better:

If Camicazi makes an appearance in a sequel or in dragons riders of berk they need to give a new name to her Dragon because storm fly is taken now.

Astrid got her fighting prowess and relationship with Hiccup, and Ruffnut got her personality.

[up]Oh okay. I must confess I haven't read any of the books, and from my liking of the film, am very unlikely to do so. Toothless IS a Night Terror as far as my headcanon goes, 8-)

New episode looked a bit worse than the earlier ones. The textures were pretty flat at times and there were some pretty awful animations. Like, first time Maya user awful. The Scaldron was pretty neat, though.

We also got a name for the Thunderdrum: "Thornado". Kinda badass.

[up][up][up][up] The whole hunt for the Scaldron was better animated than the beginning of the episode.

[up][up][up] Pretty. I just hope that this is not representative of how Astrid will ride Stormfly, she's supposed to sit behind the wings, on her body rather than her neck.

[up][up] They're really rough story boards, they're not going to remotely look like that more than likely.

I hope so. He looks way too much like the other guys.

[up] I think we'd have to see the other guys in the new context to make a real call. I mean, the guy has found a passion that is a very physical activity, he's gonna get some tone. Even knowing that, he isn't anywhere near as bulked as the other adult men in the village. He's a bit stouter than I would have designed, but he's still pretty wiry.

[up] Huh. Then I'm not really sure I see it. He looks pretty much just as he always has to my eye.

I kind of see it - mainly in the way his jawline and mouth region is - it's broader like... well... every other guy in Berk, while young Hiccup's jawline is thin.

[up] Still can't see that, but I have to point at Hiding Games and say that they're pretty rough sketches and so something like that could be a result of that lack of refinement.

Double Posting for an utterly separate idea from the one above that I would like people to actually see:

Was looking through fanfiction for this and saw one in a Regency setting (which is pretty inappropriate) and it got me thinking about a time period that HTTYD might actually fit and I'm wondering, could you see it as a sort of metaphor for the integration of Rock & Roll to white audiences?

Now, I'm not suggesting that the actual film is one (or any of the Unfortunate Implications that come from putting the African American performers who created Rock & Roll in the role of semi-sentient, fire-breathing lizard monsters), just that a story with a similar, beat by beat plot and characters could work with the context change. A little.

And that is probably why I've always been uncomfortable with the notions of 'making peace', 'learning to live together' and 'accepting the difference in the other' applied to a bunch of wild animals. Those are big words.

Who is doing the soundtrack for the next movie? I am not fussed about older character models for Hiccup, Astrid and the rest of the kids. I am fussed about the music. It had better be John Powell on that gig or else.

And I am not sure what the "or else" bit is yet, but knowing me it is bound to be bloodthirsty.

Guess what's on the telly?

I think for the first time on the BBC, they are showing it on BBC 3. Woot.
