Someone REALLY didn't like his E3 2014 review if the "you-know-what" (Dethroning Moment of Suck) page is any indication.

Personally, I'd prefer if the 'net was a little friendlier, but you know the GIFT...

I'm betting Yahtzee gets a DMOS entry every time he reviews a game with fans.

I mostly have a similar view on the E3 video that I do with his old Monster Hunter review. I'm not meh on the episode because he disagrees with my views (thinking that's gonna be the case is basically a sure path to disappointment tongue), but because he didn't talk about some thing that could've made for funny content in the review.

But, you know, so it goes. They can't all be good. Wonder what he's doing tomorrow.

^^ ^^^ That would be a trick considering that page has been locked for years. (at least on this site)

I'm betting Yahtzee gets a DMOS entry every time he reviews a game with fans.

Used to be horrible three or so years ago when Yahtzee got really big. No exaggeration, just about all of his episodes got listed on that page because of pissed off fanboys.

edit Reading the entry in particular it's really laughable. Yahtzee makes fun of all the conferences and yet it all amounts to LEAVE NINTENDO ALONE!

Nintendo is the Sacred Cow of game companies. Because of their nostalgic appeal and historical weight in the game industry, people look upon the company with much more fondness than any other, possibly more than is really reasonable.

[up][up]That entry sounded more like it was criticizing him for making Blatant Lies.

[up]Yahtzee covered small portions of every conference yet it's only the Nintendo one of that the user fixated on.

I think that poster had a point about Yahtzee being especially unfair to Nintendo that year though, either ignoring parts of Nintendo's presentation or outright lying about it. I mean, "Nintendo having nothing but cinematic cutscenes without a demo"? You couldn't be further from the truth than the size of the universe.

Yup, criticize Nintendo and the accusations of being a Sony/Microsoft fanboy come out the woodwork.

Yahtzee has vocally and repeatedly said that he hates Sony and Microsoft to a significant degree as of late.

He's praised Nintendo for making a games console instead of an underpowered PC.

His hatred of everything seems to have been exaggerated over the years, I've noticed. Early on he was more "a bit too harsh, but not completely unreasonable", but now it's more like "RAAAAGH I HATE EVERYTHING."

I felt a pretty significant disconnect with his disappointment with this year's E3 in particular, but that's about all I feel comfortable saying. I don't want to be responsible for sinking this thread like the last.

To be fair though, that does seem to be the logical conclusion of caustic criticism in general. At some point the persona and the format begin to conform to what makes it successful or acknowledged in the first place (Being caustic). So an exaggeration of the initial concept becomes the inevitable resting point.

I loved his review of Spec Ops: The Line. It was really interesting to watch and to listen to and I thought he stepped outside of his usual person at the end because the game had got to him that much.

[up][up]Yahtzee started off as harsh but earnest, bu developed a bit of a troll streak as he went along to play up his persona. I haven't bothered with his reviews lately, as they devolved too much into "let me take a few minor nitpicks and make them the basis of the whole review".

I'll admit the whole "if he doesn't criticize aspect A, assume it's good" angle annoys me. Yes, he feeds off negativity, but if you don't even mention a game's good aspects, you'll have a very skewed view of it.

I disagree with him about the penalty for failure. It DOES hobble you, but it just makes the battle that much more frantic. In addition, since you lose access to that individual function(), you are forced to experiment even more.
