Michonne is also traveling. I doubt she stayed anywhere close to the Alexandria Safe-Zone.

First few minutes of Michonne. Looks like she isn't in the best mental state.

I enjoyed it.

  • I didn't try pulling the trigger.
  • Ladder.
  • Ambushed Randall
  • Took the blame for Greg.
  • Saved Zachary.

I see people being sympathetic to Norma and Randall. I don't get it.

While I'm certainly pleased with this announcement (TWD is still my favorite of Telltale's games), I confess I'm a bit leery of their claims that they're going to be pulling all sorts of new tricks out of the bag for this one. The video games industry has a long, storied history of overselling their products, and while it's not as bad in the indie market, it still makes me a tad...suspicious.

To be honest, I wouldn't even mind if they did have some sort of narrative reset button that unified all of Season 2's possible endings, if it meant we got to continue Clementine's story. It's the possibility of them talking it way up, and then having it be something relatively mundane or disappointing, that concerns me.

Also, I really hope we're still playing Clem. Child protagonists are a personal favorite of mine.

There's two things they're probably referring to with that.

First, since we've firmly jumped console generations by this point, they're probably working on a different means of connecting Season 3 to the previous games outside of importing your save.

Second, Season 3 is going to benefit from the engine upgrades that are being done for Batman, and will probably feature some further ones of its own.

Also, there's no way we're still Clem. For starters, there's no expectation of having the same protagonist from game to game in this series. Every single one has had someone different, and 400 Days had five. Second, there's no way to unify the endings. They're pretty dramatically different. It's not "Lee dies by Clem shooting him, or Lee dies from becoming a zombie." It's "Clementine can be in literally different places at the end."

Dropping Clementine as the protagonist wouldn't be the soundest idea, in both terms of story and marketing. It is hard to get people invested into new protagonists out of the blue, especially in something that claims to be a continuation (if its not a continuation, then its not really Season 3), and Clementine's story is not done. Second, none of the characters have the popularity or narrative weight to be protagonists.

Yeah, Clem is in 3 different places depending on the ending. All that's required is her current location (either Howe's or Wellington. Or out in the open) not being livable anymore and a time jump. Beyond that she just took a different road to get wherever.

Apparently, Season 3 will "check in" on Clementine, but it may be a very different Clementine than we know. Kirkman says the timeframe of the game will be closer to the current comics timeframe, which would imply a four-year or so timeskip. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a teenage Clementine, but there's still no clear word about what kind of role she's going to be playing. I hope she'll still be a central character - I'll be disappointed if she receives nothing more than a glorified cameo.

He also hints that the new storyline will be more closely tied into the story of the comics, which I'm...not enthusiastic about. I don't like the comics much, nor the characters in it (with a handful of exceptions). Hopefully the quality of the writing won't drop, but I still find this news slightly discouraging.

I don't see any benefits in connecting the game to the comics.

You mean aside from acknowledging that they actually exist in the same world, give comic readers more of a reason to pick up the games if they haven't so far, and provide opportunity for game characters to cameo in the comics?

The very first episode of Season One had Glenn and Hershel in it. So it's not like this is really all that new.

I mean, the comics don't really appeal to me. I was into the games because of Lee and Clem. I didn't buy the Michonne game because I have never read the comics or seen the series and because Telltale's Season 2 soured me on the games.

More connectivity with hte comics means that the games will become less accessible for me, so I have less of a reason to continue buying and playing them.

The Glenn and Hershel cameos were fine because the was the first episode of the first season, so having something to hook comic reading and tv watching fans in was a good idea. Plus, those were basically prequel versions of the character from before their place in Walking Dead canon.

Now? It wouldn't exactly help the game much. I still watch the tv show but I never read the comics, so I'm saying this as someone that wouldn't have a reason to worry about a lack of the comic itself acknowledging the game.

Just because they don't affect you personally does not mean they're not benefits.

I don't read or care about the comics, so I'm not especially excited that we're going to be lining up with their timeline.

Also, I don't read or care about the comics so I'm not upset or horrified that we're going to be lining up with their timeline.

It doesn't really affect me either way. I'm mainly here for Clem. Also Kenny if they figure out a way to include him.

Kenny's dead on my playthrough, so that's not happening for me.

Depends entirely on whether the player chose to kill him. Between Kenny and Jane, one or both has to die, but one of them can survive. That's the big question revolving around Season 3: if they're keeping Clem in the focus, how are they going to handle the issue of whether Kenny, Jane, or both are dead?

With the timeskip, one option would be to suggest that if one of the two survived, they died at some point between then and now. Another option could be to have Kenny or Jane present for a few scenes before being abruptly killed off in a non-optional sequence, as they tend to do to characters who survive past the point they're supposed to die.

If Clem is no longer the protagonist, then it gets a lot easier because Kenny or Jane can appear for the brief period that the new protagonist's story intersects with hers, but I think we all want to avoid that one.

Personally, I would like for Telltale to actually incorporate the survivor (if there is one) into Clem's story and keep him or her around. Maybe have Kenny or Jane offer advice on certain issues that might influence the player's opinion in opposite directions depending on which one you have with you. But that's almost certainly wishful thinking.

Well, I hope for Season 3 to focus on a community, rather than dicking around in the woods for the entire series again. The survivor can stay there, mostly out of focus.

Edit: Also, less death this season, please. I know, its the Walking Dead and everyone dies, but that doesn't mean right away.

That's one thing I didn't like about Season 2. You would either just meet a new character and they'd die literally in the same episode or one episode later. You'd try to save one character from dying only to have them die ANYWAY 5 seconds later. Like...what was the F'ing point?!
