That's more due to the AI in most cases. It does that even when you're trying to give it the order to retreat backwards.

You know, seeing the design of the M3 Lee has me thinking... why didn't they implement tanks that could use secondary weapons? Quite a few tanks were made in that era that utilized both a .50 cal, a 37mm to deal with light armor threats, and a primary gun to deal with other enemy armors, so why not implement those as well? I doubt it would do much to the balance.

They're working on getting multigun support, which should help the B1 and Lee. Problem is, the Big World engine was not built to handle multiple weapons.

The Lee would be much more tolerable. And stuff like the Maus would have an easier time with lower tier tanks cause you could just hold down the secondary fire button and spam at the scouts or whatever.

As SerB said that: "Complexity of realization of multi-gun system is because in the architecture of the original engine, a pair of elven feet corresponds to one and only one pair of elven hands."

[up][up][up][up][up][up]Dunno, isn't 80 mm front armour with good mobility and gun is bit overkill for lvl 4? And cutting any would just give us Pz III? Oh, and devs said intentionally added lvl 4 light to one of lines for every nation. But I'm still troubled to understand just how exactly Pz 38 becomes Pz IV. Would feel better if devs make that line like they plan for T-60-70-80 tanks and in main tree put something relevant.

Earlier models had less frontal armour and the early model Pz4 would be trading mobility for firepower (as compared to the Pz3).

Finally took my ELC AMX out for a spin. First match killed an E8 and an SU-85 (from 80% to zilch in one shot). It's great fun, even if faster tanks like the ELC AMX wreak havoc upon my framerate for reasons that seem largely independent from the graphics quality settings I use. I love this little thing.

Got a couple of quick questions for you guys.

First, is there any big difference between the T2 Sturmpanzer Bizon and the T3 Sturmpanzer II? I there doesn't seem to be any big difference, aside from more HP and a (slightly) higher horsepower.

Second, if I were to transfer the crew of the Bizon onto it's next Tier vehicle in order to avoid re-training the crew, would there be any penalties? I know that transferring crewmembers into different vehicles of the same class has no consequence, but I just want to be sure.

There is a consequence (retraining at same class keeps 90% of exp when using 75% option or retrains to 75%, whichever is higher, retraining for a different class keeps 80% or 75%, whichever is higher). Also the Sturmpanzer II is infamous for its low ammo capacity (fewer rounds than the Bison). I actually skipped tiers 2-4 of German SPGs via the Pz III/IV and the Hummel, and never played the SP II, but I've never heard anything good about it and I can't recommend the Wespe when it makes me want to be back in my old M37.

Damn. Given that I'm mainly leveling up the American medium tanks and Russian Tank Destroyers right now, I guess that means I've got no choice but to skip at least the Sturmpanzer II and get the Grille.

Also, why the hell is all the advice I'm finding on general boards and such of WOT completely crappy?! Somebody earler told me the M3 Lee was a good choice and I decided to go ahead and get a 100 certification crew for it as well - only to find out that the thing acts like a tank destroyer, sans the powerful gun and camo bonus. Another time, somebody told me that buying those premium paint jobs actually helped with your camo rating - turns out that's not the case either. After that, when looking for a SPG tree to level up, somebody mentioned that the German tree was the best one to start with... and now you mention those issues.

Sheesh. Guess I'm gonna start relying on you guys instead, that tip about the American line of tanks being a decent choice seems to be good so far.

Oh, the Hummel is great though. I'd even recommend it as a first arty piece. Of course, I love my Pz III/IV, so grinding it wasn't a problem. Also, I'm told the Grille is the best tier 4 arty, and most people hate the M7 Priest and SU-5 (peashooter and very little ammo, respectively).

Also, the Lee IS well armed and armoured for its tier, even if it is an overgrown TD.

I wouldn't recommend blowing gold on crew training, though. It might take a while, but usually 75% training plus grinding is fine, while the gold is better saved for converting to free exp.

Well, apparently WOT was mostly just being pissy that I was running in windowed mode (when I first tried this, WOT wouldn't accept the change, but this time it did, so that was nice) and I got my framerate up to about where it was in Windows.

Also, got most of my skins back in, save for the Pz III/IV skin, which for some reason won't work. Currently mostly Valkyria Chronicles and Command And Conquer themed skins.

I played the Sturmpanzer II many many moons ago. Unfortunately this was very early in my time playing the game so I didn't really understand all the mechanics of the game and such so I can't comment too much on how good it is. However, I can comment on the fact that the gun has no ammo, shitty range, is inaccurate, and takes far longer to reload than any of its Tier III cousins. It does do a ton of damage for that tier though.

Basically, the Wespe is less terrible, but still bad, the M37 is kinda crappy, the SU-26 is pretty sweet, and I don't know shit about the French tier 3 arty.

Wait, so they're allowing players to add in custom skins again? How exactly would I do that?

Balmung Since: Oct, 2011
#2241: Sep 7th 2012 at 9:37:24 AM

They've let players use custom skins since day one. A while back (7.1 or 7.2, I believe), they moved such things to the res_mods folder. Remember that custom skins are client side, so that's why you don't see tanks with pony or anime paintjobs all over the place.

The files go in the res_mods folder the same way that you'd replace the files in the res directory before. res_mods -> vehicles -> [nation] -> [vehicle type (needs the numerical code as well, so the M4 Sherman for example is A05_M4_Sherman), these can all be found in the .pkg files in the res directory, though some skins come with the proper directory tree)]

What? No way to make the other players see my tank skins? What's the point of even bothering then, I may as well stick to stuff that people can see.

[up][up][up] That'd be funny as hell [lol]

The only thing I dislike about that is people who reskin the tanks so weak spots are clearly marked.

Don't blow gold on lower level tank crews. On your t10 or t9, consider it, but below t5 or so, you won't be in the tank long enough for it to really matter.

You do gain a cumulative bonus on your crew for battles participated in. Or it's attached to the rank level of your crew. TD and artillery have the particular advantage of not having a class shift so you can keep them going forever.

Testing out 8.0. So far, sounds and graphics are friggin' beautiful. New IS 4 model is cool as well. Trying out the new Russian TD line. They're pretty cool, definitely heading for them. Also, new t8 has the IS 4 gun. And looks really badass in general. New horizontal tech tree is cool. New research and purchase system is also cool. New commands are weird. T no longer works unless set manually. Fall damage has been significantly reduced. New T54 gun sucks, can't even pen another 54 on the front hull. Also, having to repair the GWE sucks, 30k a death. Brother two shotted a Maus on his own and still lost several k.

Are the new Soviet T Ds on the lower level of the tech tree, or on the higher end?

Higher. Split is at lvl 6. If you've got the 34 researched, you can branch over to the su85 and get it from there. It splits after the SU 100.
