Artillery can be a crappy experience if A) They don't scout and expect you to fire at random locations hoping to get lucky. Don't do this as it exposes you and you will be targeted very quickly. B) They forget your squishy and die easily.

TD's make excellent artillery guards because of their usually better site range and the arty can help pick of incoming you site first.

Thanks for the advice, Tyyrlym. Yeah, the Marder is the greatest; first Tier 3 I got Elite status for. I kind of heard the camo netting thing earlier (+ to the TD's already high stealth ratings), and planned to get my 3 crews to 100% before buying new tanks (perhaps getting camo up a bit for the Marder crew first, as well), so. As for the Hetzer...well, Hetzers gonna Hetz.

Starting a summer job soon and I'm much better at Mortal Kombat than I am at Wo T, so I won't be joining the tournament. In fact, impatience has kind of made me pretty bad at Wo T; trying to cycle through my LT, my TD and my Wespe is harming my ability to play the game. (I'm not sure why...getting insight on each of the individual roles should help me understand how to avoid/counter them, but it isn't. Plus, getting 150 experience a game at most when playing with the Wespe is painful - I need 12(0?) THOUSAND experience to upgrade to a tank that does LESS damage.)

Barcode: yeah that is the sucky part. Artillery is very expensive xp and the later cash wise. Especially when you get into triple digit gun bores.

One of the first things to upgrade is either your radio or your gun. Then your transmission.

I like my little marder. I can't wait to get into it's bigger guns. I love sniping tanks with that thing.

I finally got the 7.5cm gun on the Marder II. The 2.5cm increase in bore size of the gun comes with a much more noticeable improvement in hitting power (I kill Hets. :3) But the range and penetration are nice too. Damn near one shotted an American t57 SPG. Also makes nice dents in most medium tanks. Also the gun's report is much louder then 5cm pop gun. Lol. Was not happy when I bounced a shot on the under carriage of a medium cresting a hill though. -_-.

Also on my list of appreciable changes is the 76mm gun on the Russian T-46 Light tank. The little bastard hits well above it's weight class.

Ok I know the gun reticule has a range finder of a sort. I noticed on the bottom of the reticule is a number that doesn't change is that the gun equipped's optimal range?

Has anyone noticed the match making system being a bit wonky lately dumping tanks into inappropriately scaled battles?

[up]Matchups seem to get worse as I go up the tier ranks, but it may just be that the first Russian medium on the tech tree REALLY SUCKS (bought it recently. it is the size of a heavy tank and has none of the resilience, and all the available guns require you to be at a standstill to hit anything, removing your mobility advantage. You're forced to play some sort of awkward super-fast fire support vehicle).

The strongest Marder gun sounds like a cross between the AWP and a Siege Tank in Siege mode. And that's awesome.

Finally got a hang of artillery but losing ultra-long games without any kills and being rewarded with 150 XP still sucks.

Work's got me a bit too busy to grind but I'm trying to get in me 5x XP wins this week.

Match making is iffy. In the early going it's all tier 1 and 2, then you get tier 2 to 4, but once you hit tier 4 it's wide open. You can find yourself in games with IS-7's and Mauses. Sometimes you can do some good. Even a PZIII can have an impact with the right terrain if you can use it to hunt down enemy arty, kill enemy scouts, or harass/track larger tanks. The downside is that for every match like that you'll wind up in one where there's no cover leaving you easy pickings for Jagd Tigers or SU-152s, or in matches with no arty meaning the odds of you doing appreciable damage to anyone is just about zero.

It's just part of the game.

Except they have shown in the past a better tweaked match maker. It is like they undid that change. The tanks parts need to come into play like what gun it has before they pick which match to put them in.

Any who's Anyone have any idea on how to figure out your guns optimal ranges and when you should aim higher? As in lift the sight up a bit for long distance shooting.

At the ranges you're fighting at it shouldn't be necessary. If you're shooting at targets 500m+ away you might aim half a meter higher, maybe, but at that point you're going to be having trouble even seeing them.

At 300m there's no real need to loft the shot. The distance a round is going to drop in that trip is measured in centimeters. It's not worth trying to correct for. Put the reticule where you want it to hit and pull the trigger.

Exactly. Which is why it's not really worth it to try and tweak that tiny little bit. There are so many other things factoring in that will have such a much larger impact that it's pointless. Even on those long shots the hysteresis in the system is so much that your tiny adjustments are just pointless self gratification.

In general once you hit about tier 3 you shouldn't be buying a tank until you can afford the 75% trained crew right off the bat anyways.

Meh I suck up the 50% training and go for it.

My Marder II now has it's 7.6cm gun. :3

That's a bad move. The difference between a 75% crew and a 50% crew is pretty big. You're much better off getting that jump on their training ASAP. Especially on tanks with small crews, it's a small price to pay for a lot of experience.

The 7.6cm gun on the Marder is a beast. Really makes it one of the most fun tanks in the game for me. Again, hit 100% on the training, go full camo for the whole crew along with a net and so long as you don't move you're invisible.

I know it is. (Funny thing is in the match I bagged the heavy all the Het players said they missed their marders.)

I have taken a shine to my Pzkpfw III-A. It is fast and maneuverable and it seems to be well suited for firing on the run. I run down those faster Russian tanks when they try to run away. Even ran down a leopard. (He ran into area with some trees and fences and I caught up) Only down side is the 50mm gun has no upgrade.

Working on getting 100% on my Marder crew and at some decent ranking up in Camouflage before buying my Hetzer.

The 105mm is a close range shotgun. You have to completely change the way you play compared to the Marder. With the 105mm it's all about working yourself into a good hidey hole near the front lines and then waiting for someone to come wondering by so you can nail them in the flank or rear with an HE round from that 105mm. The problem is the Hetzer is slow and unmanuverable making it very very hard to get into that kind of position. The Stu G III can take the same gun and with it's speed and maneuverability it can make better use of it. Though with the removal of warping back in beta making long range gunnery possible the assault Stu G got a lot less playable on anything but heavily congested city maps.

The Hetzer has some supporters but compared to what it's sandwiched between it's hard to see it as anything but an awful awful POS.

Warping? Are you talking about shell path warping?

Yeah I am not happy about the 105. TD's should more sniper like not touch tag explosive lance wielders.

[up]I'll be sure to add (accept? whatever) you next time I get on. I haven't been playing too much because lack of sleep is even getting to ruin my ability to game. As someone who usually wakes up at 12PM and does as he pleases until 2AM EARLIEST when he gets tired, I'm having trouble adjusting to needing to get to bed at 9:30PM to get 8 hours of sleep and get to work on time. Hell, it's 11PM already...

On the plus side, the Hetzer has demonstrated itself to be a lot tougher than the Marder. While I enjoy surviving the first shot the enemy lands on me, I don't enjoy dying with the next, and it seems the Hetzers I go up against take like 4 or 5 solid hits to go down - so urban knife-fighting shouldn't be too bad if you can get used to that kind of gameplay.

But yeah, T Ds that can't snipe probably suck to play...

PS: Read up on the warping thing a while back, I think. It's when enemy tanks at long range "suffer" (really, they benefitted) from network issues and therefore were practically impossible to hit, right?
